Intro to the Pixar Universe
Alright. Welcome to the Pixar Universe. I'll be your host, Grey.
Nah, just kidding. Anyway...
I love Pixar. Like, really love Pixar.
I'm not exactly sure why or how these movies sucked me in the way they did. What I do know is that I have never been a stranger to them. When I was tiny, I used to watch Finding Nemo, literally every day, sometimes two or three times a day. That doesn't make me special. I've heard about countless other 000's kids who did the exact same thing.
My point is that I've seen that logo countless times. The lamp coming in from the right and bouncing on the I, making that goofy little noise. You know the one. Now you're thinking of it, aren't you?
There were six movies that really shaped my childhood, and four of them were Pixar movies. In order of most to least impactful, they are
1. A Bug's Life
2. Cars
3. Finding Nemo
4. Monsters Inc.
I don't know about you guys, but even though I'm not all that old, thinking about the years from 2001 to 2009 gets me so nostalgic. During those years, Pixar had this amazing streak of seven original movies (Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, Wall-E, and Up), all of which, in my opinion are just astonishing films. "Pixar's Golden Age", those years are nicknamed. I mean, I feel that way about all of their films, but I remember the releases of most of these films, and of course the releases of the succeeding films. There are definitely a few movies that not everybody liked, but I did.
Another reason Pixar is so important to me is because I want to be an animator some day and work at Pixar. I want to go to Emeryvilla, CA, and be able to work alongside legends like John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton, Pete Doctor, the list goes on and on. I want to have a hand in creating and bringing to life the stories I adore so much.
If you've ever watched a B-roll, you know what it's all about- voice acting, for the most part. That alone is amazing, the way the animation and voice acting are synced up, but I recently watched a B-roll that also included Randy Newman composing the score for the movie. Most excitingly though, there was footage at the very end of the concept art and production demo reels for the movie. There was even a video of an animator using a tablet to create a rough frame. I loved every second of it, but watching the process of the animation was the very best for me.
Watching them put together these movies, and then watching the movies themselves, gives me a feeling that literally nothing else ever has. I know all of this is corny, but I don't care. Pixar movies have been shaping me for most of my life, but for the last year or so, the entire company has just become a lot more importance to me.
Thank you for checking this book out, and for reading that sappy little intro. That won't be the norm, I promise. Is there anything you guys want to see? Theories? Art? Questions answered? Anything else? (Something to note, I've already got close to thirty of my own parts planned, so while I am taking requests, just know that it could be a while before you see it here.)
Let's get this kicked off now, shall we?
