Why do we need sleep?

I'm really curious and I don't wanna research because every time my fingers tap the Google Chrome app on my phone, my eyes would suddenly close and be like; DUCK YOU FISH, I AIN'T DOING THIS FECES.

In short, it hurts. Tf, why does this happen?
