I hate being asked for updates.

Every writer does.

I work my ass off to update at least once a week each story and sometimes more.

Yet there's always someone commenting and asking for an update.

As if everything that I struggled for wasn't worth it. Like all my hard work was completely diminished.

And you were so selfish that you didn't think about the author. Authors have lives. They have things they deal with and they have to work on. They can't be at every beck and call for an update.

This rant was particularly motivated because about a month or so ago, my grandma passed away. I was coming to terms to it and I said I'm going on a hiatus and if someone asks for an update I will fight them on it. I just said that I was having family problems.

Someone actually had the fucking audacity to try and argue with me on why it was okay for people to comment and ask for updates. They said it was their way of saying they liked the book. Like I'm sorry?? Do you just want me to skip my own grandmothers wake and funeral to fucking please your reading needs????? Do you feel like you as someone doesn't write knows more than the writer herself???? Do you actually want to try and fight me on this???

IF YOU LIKE THE BOOK JUST SAY SO. literally I prefer "this is so cute!!" or "I love this chapter" or "this going so good omg" any day over "pls update!" EVEN "OMG MOM" is better.

It makes the writer feel as if their writing and what they're doing isn't good enough for the readers. I have pretty bad anxiety and when I see things like that it's hard for me to then focus and continue writing. I feel as if people will get mad if I don't do it that second and people will eventually hate it or me.

I speak for almost every wattpad writer out there when I say this. Please don't ask for updates. Life is stressful for everyone and this adds to more stress if people constantly ask. I know this sounds kind of harsh but I just want you guys to see if from my point of view and the point of view of many other writers.

Be civilized and nice and just don't ask for updates. If you want to praise a book, don't do it by asking for updates. We all definitely appreciate a more thoughtful comment at the end of our chapters than just "pls update!"
