Visa Pre-Paid Vanilla Gift Cards

So for those of you who don't follow my Instagram account, more specifically my Instagram story, then you might not have a single clue as to what's been going on in my life for the last few days.

Get ready for the raging story of a #StrugglingGamer.

So I went out shopping with my cousin and her mom and we stopped by Game Stop to check out the gaming merch and some Harry Potter stuff (since the new book came out and all), and I ended buying a pre-paid visa gift card.

The reason why I did so, and if you couldn't tell by my more recent updates, I've been obsessed with Overwatch lately. Overwatch is a team first person shooter game and it's all the rage right now.

It's basically Team Fortress 2, but with waifus x3

Anyways!

I decided to get the game for my laptop instead of the PS4, where I normally do my gaming, because I've done my research and a astonishing 60% of the Overwatch community plays Overwatch on PC, while the other 40 goes to PS4 and X-Box One, and I wanted to play with the majority of players.

The thing is, instead of buying a hard copy for the PC, I decided to buy the gift card so I buy the game digitally from Blizzard Entertainments website. The reason being is because even though my laptop has the ability to play DVD and game discs, ever since it downloaded Windows 10 behind my back, it longer supports that function. I tried to play a movie on it a month ago and it jacked up my whole screen. It turned it black and I could only see the mouse cursor, and when the desktop screen DID so up, it was tiny and in a corner. It was like that for 2-3 days before it somehow fixed itself and everything after that was fine. So I decided not wanting to risk that episode happening again or possibly crashing my new laptop, I decided to get the digital download of the game.

So I buy the card and the cashier says the activation of the card could take somewhere between 1-72 hours and I'm just like... "Okay?"

I've heard of waiting 24 hours for a card to activate, that's understandable. But 72?!

I don't complain, and enjoy the rest of the shopping spree. (Got myself a new outfit too, I was pretty happy about that!)

Anyways when we finally get back to my grandparents place, like 2 hours has gone by, so I figured the card should be ready, right?

I go to Blizzard's website, bring up Overwatch, select the digital version, fill out the credit card and billing information and press "Pay Now", and guess what happens?

It tells me my credit card is "invalid". So I'm like, what the smur?

So I go to Pre-Paid Visa's website and type in my credit card information and it SPECIFICALLY says that my gift card is "active". So now I'm like, then why didn't it work?

I do some digging around, and find out in order to make online purchases with it, I have to add in my postal code. At the time I figured that was why it didn't work before, so I quickly add that in and it accepts it.

So I go back to Blizzard's website and try the purchase again. THE SAME RESULT!

So I take a look around in my account settings and it says that I need to set up a "Method of Payment" in order to make online purchases.

So THEN I assume that the reason it didn't work twice before was because I didn't set it up properly. So I fill out the information and the website ACCEPTS my gift card as a METHOD of PAYMENT, which means that the card SHOULD BE ACTIVE and I SHOULD BE ABLE TO BUY THE GAME.

But guess what happened when I tried to make the purchase again?

IT DIDN'T WORK! ... I got a different screen pop up this, so that was really the only technically good sign, saying that they "couldn't complete my payment at this time", but other than that, IT DIDN'T WORK AGAIN!

So my grandpa gave the card company a call about my credit cards activate, and they told him that the card is indeed in fact activated, and it says that as well on their website.

THEN WHY THE HECK CAN'T I BUY ANYTHING WITH IT?!

I've been trying to buy this game for the last few days now and it's really starting drive me insane right now.

Turns out I'm not the only one who has had issues with Vanilla Pre-Paid Visa gift cards.

My grandparents got 4 of them for anniversary presents one year and every time they tried to make purchases, NONE of them worked! $70 worth of gift cards gone!

Anyways, he's going to try and help me get it exchanged into a MasterCard gift card.

Moral of the story here folks?

DON'T BUY VANILLA VISA GIFT CARDS!!! THEY'RE GARBAGE!

You can tell how mad I am about this with all of the capital words I put in :P

END OF RANT!
