Prologue: Eviction

Julia was in tears because she was given an eviction notice. She has three days to find a new place to stay.  She sobs since she already lost her job and has no place to go.  What is she to do now?

She has no one.  It is just her and her bulldog, Butch.  She recalls how she adopted him from the pound and was glad she had.  It had been the two of them since then.  It was a good thing for her since the death of her father, the marriage of her mother to her stepfather who though he doted on her she never felt it was the same, and again after the death of her sister.   Yes, the two had been best friends since.

Julia's phone rang it was William, her best friend.  She did not expect to hear from him since his engagement six months ago.  It was just like him to call when she was at her whits end.

"Hello, William," Julia spoke up as if it were no big deal her life was in ruins.

"Hello, Julia, so how are you?" He asks.

"Not so good, my life is in shambles," Julia explains.

"Julia, what is it now?"  William asks.

"I am jobless, and today the eviction notice came. It says I have three days to find somewhere else, but there is nowhere else for me," Julia replies.

"Funny, you should mention that as I know a place," William remarks.

      "Where?"  Julia asks.

      "The apartment," William responds.

"Wait, the one you bought with her why that is a terrible idea," Julia protest.

"It is not when she called it quits," William explains.

"What she broke off the engagement, since when?  Did she say why?"  Julia blurts out.

Butch heard her yell and barks as he wonders what all the commotion is about anyways.

"Arf, arf, Bark, Bark," Butch continues to bark at her.

"She says it cause I do not eat the same pizza toppings as her, but I am sure it is more to then that I should have seen it coming,"  William says.

"Do not blame yourself," Julia answers.

"Thanks, Jules, you always know what to say," William replies with the nickname he has not called her since they were kids.

"So the apartment is up for rent, and I kept my place," William tells her.

"Okay, in that case, sure I will be glad to rent it, but  I can not pay right away," Julia states.

"Still need to find a new job and all," Julia remarks.

"Oh, yeah, there is a job available at the laundry mat, it does not pay much," William speaks up.

      "Laundry mat, huh?"  Julia responds.

"Yes, so should  I tell my aunt you are coming in to apply for it?"  William asks.

"Wait, your aunt is the one hiring,"  Julia responds in surprise.

"Yes, so are in you in or not?" William asks.  He waits to see what she will say.

"Sure, after all a job is a job," Julia answers.

"Great, and Julia, I know you will not let her down," William says. He hangs up.

Julia turns to Butch and says, "Good newsboy, we are moving to an apartment soon, and I have a job."

Butch whines at the news as if to say he does not like it any more than she does.

     Julia texts William

Hey, just remembered, is it okay for Butch to come too?

See he is my dog and I was not sure about the rules at the apartment.

    William texts Julia

Yes, he is allowed as I happen to know the landlord.

     He is a nice fellow.

  Julia's text to William

   Oh, thank goodness.

Julia got to work on packing her things and made sure to include Butch's dog bed, his treat jar, his chew toys, food, and water dish, his leash, his extra leash, and his food.  She could not wait to see what the new place looks like.  Whatever it has to be great cause it beats being homeless she thought to herself as she packed the last of her dishes into a huge crate.  She then moves onto the furniture.

She packs the table, and dining room chairs, the tv, the entertainment center, the sofa, and chair, the nightstand, the lamp, the bed, and dresser.   The rest of the furniture stays as it came with the place she is leaving. She also packs her assortment of purses, scarves, and shoes.

Last, she packs her jewelry box though small as it is, she feels it still holds sentimental value to her, and her few other belongings.  She is glad to have a plan at last.  This way it does not make things seem so bad for her and Butch in the long run.

She was about to find out the apartment was not all it was cut out to be...
