Chapter 1 The Apartment is Burnt Orange

One day later, as Julia unpacks the last of the boxes, suitcases, pillows, and Butches things out of her car, she takes a look around the place. She thinks good day the place is burnt orange.  She cringes as she recalls this is her least favorite color.  She sighs a sigh of relief when she sees the note left for her on the bar.

          Dear Julia,

I know you hate the color burnt orange.  It is okay because between you and me I hate it too.  There are a few cans of paint by the back door, blue, pink, yellow, and purple. Feel free to repaint whichever color you wish.  For all, I care you can use all the colors.

As for your first month's rent do not worry about it.  I happen to know the landlord and he says you may rent it free of charge for the first month. Is that grande?

Well, I hope you and Butch find the place all nice and cozy.  Thanks, Jules for everything.

      Sincerely,

     your best friend,

     William

Julia laughs when she finishes the note.

"Butch it looks like your momma is going to give this place a complete paint makeover," Julia says.

She pets him as he sips some water.  She giggles at his silly antics.

"Well, what do you have to say to that then, hum?"  Julia asks.

Butch wags his tail, chases his tail, then barks in agreement.  He seems to think whatever his owner says makes him happy.

Julia changes into some old clothes, then gets to work covering everything up with the drop cloths she found by the back door. She smiles as she thinks William thought of everything. She sighs as she recalls he can be so thoughtful sometimes.

She uses a screwdriver to undo the lid on the can of blue paint.  She stirs it up with a paint stick, then gets out a paintbrush. She thinks it is a good thing the previous owners did not get rid of these.  She begins to paint the living room a nice blue.  As she finishes it a few hours later, she smiles when she sees the finished product.

She takes a photo of herself in the room and Butch lays down by the sofa.  She moves onto the next room. She closes the blue paint. This room she decides to paint yellow as it is the bathroom and she happens to have some cute daisy wallpaper that will look nice in there.

She enters the next room, the kitchen, and sighs.  It seems harder to think of the appropriate color for this room. She has yellow, blue, and pink dishcloths and dish towels. She grins as she comes up with an idea.  She puts the lid back on the yellow paint and cleans off the second paintbrush.  She opens the can of pink paint. She dips the paintbrush in there and repaints the kitchen pink.

When the paint dries, Julia adds a few blue, and yellow polka dots to it. There she thinks this way it looks much better.  Next, she paints the master bedroom in the same design as the kitchen.  She paints the small dining room area purple to be different.  She might as well since she was told she could redo it whatever way she pleases.  She then moves onto the last room the sitting room area which has a small balcony off of it. She paints this room blue and adds a few yellow stripes to it.  As it dries she smiles a huge smile glad to be done with her apartment remodel job at last.

Julia changes back into her other clothes after she makes sure the lids are tightly sealed on the cans of paint and washes up a bit.  Now she goes from room to room and takes photos of the nice artwork. She sure admires the updates.

She removes the cloths off the furniture and sits on the couch to relax. She might as well since her interview at the laundry mat starts tomorrow.  She reads a bit while Butch takes a nap.  It seems the two have adjusted well to this new arrangement.

Little does she know someone else stands outside the place and looks through the windows with a frown.  She has no idea this person is displeased with the changes she made to the place or that they have any intention of coming back.
