Chapter 4
The picture is Lily's dog that she had to leave behind in Skandia, Max. And the video is Set It Off by the cast of the movie Descendants.
I woke up in the morning, and sat up. I threw the covers to the side of me, and swung my leg out to the side of the bed. I hopped onto the floor. First day of training! I thought. This is so gonna be awesome. I bet being a Rangers Apprentice is awesome.
I quickly changed into some clothes that I can move in. I opened my door and walked into the kitchen. Halt was reading the news while sipping a cup of coffee. He looked up while I sat down in the chair in front of him.
"Soooo...," I started. "What does an apprentice do exactly?"
Halt looked up and said, "What does a apprentice do?" I nodded. "Well. That's easy. You do the housework."
My eyes widened, "seriously?" I asked.
His grim face showed no emotions, not like it would anyway. He simply nodded, "Seriously." Well, lucky for him, I already know how to do housework. My father would be busy all the time and I would be left to care for myself.
During those hours, I taught myself how to cook, read, and write. I already know how to clean. I mean, how can you not know how to do some housework. Like, is it that hard to dust, sweep, or make your own bed? No, it's not that hard, or complicated.
"Ok," I started, "what do I do first."
"Well. Since theirs two of you. You can do half the chores, and when sleepy-head wakes up, he can do his half. So you can sweep, dust, and then clean your weapons, and I'll be wait outside in the clearing for when you two are finished. Or one of you." I nodded and started to get the broom.
After I was done sweeping and dusting the whole cabin, did Will finally wake up. It's not like it's close to the afternoon. It's still pretty early. It's just that I'm a morning person, so I wake up at around 5-6 in the morning. Will doesn't look like a morning person, probably because he looks like he's a zombie, and didn't get any sleep.
But seriously, it's only 8 in the morning. That's not that early. Will yawned loudly. I looked at him. "What?!" Will asked.
I gave him a 'seriously?' look and said, "You've got chores to do. You need to clean the dishes, featch the water, and clean your weapons. Then you can go to the clearing. And try and be quick, Halt's waiting for us." After that last sentence Will quickly ran towards the sink.
I chuckled quietly to myself and walked to my room. And that's when I remembered. I quickly walked to the bag that I used to bring some of my belongings here, the day after I was told that I was going to be apprenticed to Ranger Halt.
I opened up my bag. And the only thing left was a picture. I grabbed the picture, tears forming in my eyes. The picture was my white German Shepard, Max, playing around in the water. Since I lived in Skandia, Max gotten used to being on ships, and being in the water.
Max loved the water. It sucked that I had to leave him behind. I felt a warm tear go down my face. I set the photo on my dresser. I really need to get another dog. That might help me get over the fact that I would probably never see Max again.
I got off my bed and grabbed my ranger weapons and started cleaning them. I can't wait to get my sword that Halt promised to get me. After I finished cleaning my weapons, I grabbed my my knives and put them in my double scabberd, and wrapped my cloak around me.
Then I slung my quiver over my shoulder and grabbed my bow. I then walked out of my room and headed out of the cabin. The clearing wasnt that far. It was actually right by the cabin. That means that I dont need to remember directions to get somewhere.
Halt was standing in front of some targets. He grunted and said, " 'bout time you got here. Where's Will?"
"Will's finishing his chores remember?"
"Yes I remember." Halt walked over to a table and motioned me to come to him. I walked over to the table. "Put your weapons on the table. And your bow." I did as he told me to do.
"So what are we doing?" I asked.
"First your going to learn how to throw knives," Halt replied. He then demonstrated by throwing a knife. It hit the bullseye.
"Woah..." Halt looked at me.
"Try it," he simply said. I picked up my throwing knife and faced the target. I took a deep breath and lifted my arm into a throwing position. I exhaled and threw the knife. It hit the edge of the target. That left me wondering how I did that.
But, it did hit the target, and not pass the target. So thats good. I turned to Halt. "Not bad for your first try. Most apprentice's miss the target on their first try," he said stroking his beard.
I narrowed my eyes and said, "Did you miss the target on your first try?"
"No."
"You did didn't you?" I said.
"No."
"Yes."
"I said no!" Halt yelled. I flinched backward from the sound of his voice and raised my hands up by my face.
"Ok, ok. You hit the target on your first try. I get it," I said in defeat.
"Good. Now keep practicing. I'm gonna check on Will to see if he's almost done." Halt walked away. I went up to the target and grabbed the throwing knives on the board and walked back to the table. I turned to the target again and threw the knife. This time it hit right by the bullseye. Ughhhh... this is gonna take forever.
Bye the time Will was done with his chores, was I able to actually get a break. Halt told me I could do whatever I wanted for the rest of the day while Will practiced throwing his knives. I was actually glad to hear those words for the first time in my life. Like seriously, who wouldn't be glad to be able to rest after hours of painful practice?
Painful? You might ask. Yes, painful. You even try it, hours of throwing a knife without a break. But even I knew that after a few months to even a year maybe, would throwing a knife, or shooting arrows for hours wouldn't hurt as much as it does right now.
So what happens when I walk into my room? When I saw a comfy, cozy, bed? I just let out a long, loud sigh, rolling my eyes. And then I said 'Finally!' And jumped right on my bed. As I was on my bed, I could feel my eyes get tired, and sleep overtook me.
Yes, I know. It took me awhile to update. I'm sorry. It's literally not my fault though. Why isn't it my fault? It's because school will start soon. Yes! I am sooo happy that school is starting, then I don't have to be so bored. School always has something for you to do, so then your not bored. Except when the teacher is talking on and on and on, then it's boring.
And yes, I can talk for hours about random things. Boring things even. You know what? I'm gonna stop talking now.
Have a good day! :)
