I woke up at midnight. Finally... the time I have been waiting for. I tossed my covers off of me and climbed out of bed. I walked out of the girls room and walked to the big oak tree outside. And just so you know, I didn't walk out of the room in pajamas. I already had some comfy clothes on.

Will was waiting in the tree. When he spot me, he quickly climbed down. "You ready?" I asked him. He quickly nodded his head yes. "Well... What are we waiting for. Let's go," I whispered. We walked in the shadows close to the castle walls. The sentry guard looked tired. Will and I waited, watching the pattern of whe the guard leaves to patrol a different area.

We quickly found the pattern and and waited for when the guard left to patrol the other area. The guard took a large yawn. And you could tell that all he wanted was to sleep. The guard walked to the other side of the castle. Will and I quickly, but silently, ran to the wall.

We started scaling the wall like spiders. The guard walked and stopped right below us. And at that moment Will had to lose his footing. His foot slipped making a sound. Will and I froze. The sentry guard looked around, and I remembered how people tend to not look up a lot, so when he found no source of the sound he relaxed and went to check the other side of the castle.

Will finally found another foothold, and he and I started climbing again. Gladly the Baron's window was open. Will went in first. I then grabbed the windowsill and hauled myself through the window. Will helped me through the rest by pulling me in, although I really didn't need his help. You know from the hardwork that I had done in Skandia you know?

"Uhhhh.... Thanks?" I whispered to will. He just nodded. I saw him staring at the letter. My eyes narrowed. They couldn't possibly know anything about me, could they? NoooooOooooOoo.... They shouldn't know anything about me. Wait... If what I think is what I'm thinking is correct. The what is in the letter. And why am I here. My eyes widened. "Will!" I whispered urgently as he was about to grab the letter.

His eyes narrowed. "What?!" He asked in a whispered tone.

"It's a trap," I said.

"Huh?"

I rolled my eyes and said slowly, "Its.. A... Trap." His eyes narrowed and confusion was written on his face.

"Why would it be a trap?" He asked.

"I just know that it's a trap. Ok?"

"Yea.. But your instincts might be wrong," he said. He slowly reached his hand closer to the the letter. "Don't say I didn't warn you." I whispered to myself, but loud enough for Will to hear. I could sense eyes on me. When Will grabbed the note hands shot out and gripped Will's and I's hands in an iron grip. I looked at will, with an I told you so, look on my face. He pursed his lips in a line looking down.

I chuckled. "Ha! I was right and you were wrong! I was right and you were wr- Oww!" I yelled grabbing my head. Why did my attacker had to slap me on my head. I was in the middle of a victory song! I glared at the person holding on of my hands. Whoa. Holding me was the one and only Halt, the famous, old gray-bearded Ranger. Just looking at him made me shut-up.

But I don't exactly give up that easily, you know, as easy as Will, who is still looking at the ground. "Soooo... Why did you slap me on the back of my head?!" I asked the grim-faced Ranger. He silmply shrugged his shoulders. "Where are we exactly going anyway?" I tried again. He glared at me. And if I could've, I would've put my hands up in surrender. So I just murmured a just asking. He led Will and I to a set of double oak wood doors.

He opened them up with a hand. And no he didn't let one of me or Will's hands go. He had one hand on both of our hands, which hurt. Inside of the room was Baron Arald. "So you were right," Arald said. Right about what?!

Halt nodded. "Climbed like spiders," he said. Arald nodded.

"What are you gonna do with us?" Will asked.

"Well you two will have to be punished seeing as ou broke into my study room, and was about to read something that wasn't yours," Arald said.

"What's our punishment?" It was I who asked this time.

"What do you think your punishment should be?" Arald asked. Will and I looked at each other.

"Uhhh.... Letting us goooo...." I said. Halt and Arald looked at me. I sighed, "It was worth the chance."

"Ummm..." Will thought. "I don't know. Having to work at the farms?"

"Well thought, but no. That's not what your punishment is going to be. Halt, you should just let them see the note. In s a fair punishment ," Arald said.

"You sure?" Halt asked, one eyebrow perfectly raised.

The Baron nodded his head, "It would be a good of a punishment." He guestered for Halt to give the note to Will and I. How would the note be a punishment? I thought. Halt gave Will the note. Will took it uncertainly. "Go on," Arald encouraged. Will opened the note, I peered over to see what it said too. What it said surprised me. And it must've done the same to will.

It read:

The boy Will, and the girl Lily have the qualities of a Ranger.

I will take them on as my apprentices.

Signed, Ranger Halt

This isn't good. I was about to leave to go back to Skandia. But now that I'm a Ranger, I don't think I could get out of Arables. And I possibly couldn't go anywhere without Halt knowing what I was doing. Oh boy. What am I going to do. OK, Fine. If I don't like being a Ranger, I will just send a note to my parents. They'll come and bring me back to Skandia. I know they will.

"Is something wrong?" Halt asked.

"Uhhh..." He must've seen the panicked look on my face. "Yes! I'm alright," I said. Will had a scared expression on his face.

"Well of you go! Be at the front of the castle at 8:00 sharp. Halt will be waiting for you two," Arald said ushering us all out of his room. I walked back to the girls room. I'm gonna be a Ranger's Apprentice, I thought.
