Chapter 11: Gray, But Still Colorful
Y/N's POV:
I wanted to scream at Ninja. I had bad feelings about that Blue. I went home and had to calm myself down before I burned my house down. "Who does he think she is!?" I whispered quietly, getting ready for bed. "She cannot take my place! I don't really care if the prophecy is real or not, I don't like her." The book that was under my pillow buzzed and I picked it up, ready to gossip to Shira.
When I was sucked in, Shira was there on a rock, meditating. "Shira! You will not believe what had just happened," I said, walking up to her.
"You are unhappy with Ninja's choice, hmm, Dreamer?" she asked, not opening her eyes. I sat with my back against the rock, wanting to just spill my guts to her. "Tell me all about it. Because I can give you some guidance to your questions." I took in a sigh before starting.
"Ok, so me and Ninja were battling a monster of some sorts and there was another Ninja. She was dressed in blue, and her name was Blue. It really made no sense why she was there! Anyways, she used some powers that we don't have and I have a bad feeling about the way she spoke to me. It was like she was trying to take my place," I said, looking at the rock I leaned against. Shira opened her eyes and looked down at me.
"She thinks highly of Ninja. And she is a messenger, for you and Ninja. And what she has said tonight was true. There are five other Ninja that are coming here. They are all looking for Ninja. They will try and take your place, but you will need to prove yourself. There will not be a choice in this. You will need to become a team, a family," she said wisely. I blinked many times before looking back up at her.
"Ok, so what is the evil that is rising from the depths of this town?" I asked.
"I am afraid I cannot tell you," Shira shook her head. I looked her in the eyes again, feeling as if she knew far more than I did. "Do you know who the Ninja is? The original?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at her in a serious way. She nodded, but was mute to the question. "Your alarm clock is about to go off. Farewell, dear Dreamer." And I was blasted out.
All week, monsters were popping up and disrupting the day, but me and Ninja didn't see Blue again for a little while. Sometimes, I thought I could see her in the shadows, or behind other people. But When I went to do a double take, she was gone. "Snowbird! Get your head in the game!" Ninja's wild cry broke through my thoughts during a fight with another robot.
I twisted and turned away from the blades that swung out, attempting to catch me off guard. I didn't answer back, I just fought silently. I had that cold feeling I was being watched again. I spun around and looked to see no one there. I wanted to scream because of that damn feeling. Suddenly, I was knocked over on my back and pinned to the asphalt, staring at two large mechanic eyes.
I kicked at the monster, but it didn't budge. Where was Ninja Boy when you needed him? "NINJA HYDRO HAND!!" I closed my eyes and turned my head away, waiting for a shocking energy blast to fly through my veins. And it came as quickly as I had thought it would. The energy pulsed through me, giving and taking the energy I had. I opened my eyes to see sparks fly from the robotic monster and it loosened it's grip on my shoulders. I managed to squeeze out, catching my breath.
"You ok?" I looked up and saw Ninja standing there. I really wanted to smack him. But all of my energy was gone and I nodded solemnly. "Yeah..." I heaved. Ninja nodded and smoke bombed away. I did the same and went home. I didn't feel so good, so I laid in bed for a bit. I blinked softly and turned on the TV.
"Here on Norriseville News," a lady said as I flicked on the channel. I groaned and moved my finger to press the guide button when I stopped and saw that there was a flash of another Ninja! He had on a black and gray suite. In the action, he was flipping over robbers and thieves. "Today, a new Ninja was found fighting a gang down Oak Street. We are here live with Collin Figs, explaining the scene."
"Yeah, all I saw was a blur of black and gray and we thrown out of the way of the gang before finding that I had been saved by a Ninja. I looked back and he was gone, but the gang was all knocked out. That probably only took 12 seconds!"
I breathed in and out, trying to calm the head ache that pounded in my head. This was all just a little too much for me to handle! Four Ninja's? I thought. There's totally gonna be trouble. I glanced up at the screen again. The gray Ninja turned towards the camera, and his eyes were a deep, striking, icy blue. That image was frozen in my mind.
Randy's POV: (REALLY SHORT!!)
"Did you see that news report last night?" I asked Y/N when we walked into school the next morning. She nodded and looked away from me. It was almost like she was mad at me or something... Unnatural. She was almost (key word is almost) always happy. "Yeah, that Ninja guy has some trouble coming for him," she seethed, glaring at nothing. I sighed and turned in front of her, grabbing her shoulders. "Ok, Y/N what's bothering you? Is there anything you want to tell me? Because you know I'll always keep your secrets. No. Matter. What. So, please. Don't hold out on me, and just tell me what is wrong," I said.
Y/N's POV:
I wanted to tell him. I really did! Right there. I wanted to say that I was the White Ninja and that all this new stuff was bothering me. But I couldn't. I had to keep it a secret. I had to keep my promise to Shira. But, I guess Randy saw the lie growing and rooting itself in my eyes. "Theres... there isn't anything to say," I said, looking him in the eyes, trying not to break down and just spill my guts.
"Y/N. There is something bothering you. I know that look you have. That helpless, secretive look you have on right now. And I know when you're lying. It's just a little obvious," he said, refusing to give up. I pushed past him and not wanting to hear him call my name. "Y/N! We are not going to have another fiasco like we did during that whole drama circle with Therisa and Melody. There shouldn't be a wall between us-"
"Then why do I feel like there is?" I struck back, not looking back. I was yanked backwards, nearly falling into Randy, but catching myself with my feet locked out in a wide stance. I could feel the anger of protecting Randy filling up, calling to my fears. And it was true. I felt a stone cold wall between me and Randy... but I don't think it was him. I think it was me who had built and upheld the wall's existence. I wanted to take it down. I wanted to feel free. But with the other Ninja, especially Blue, I feel vulnerable to them. And Randy wouldn't understand. I know he wouldn't. He wasn't like me. He wasn't anything near me in this sense of a secret.
"I can't tell you!" I said, trying to pull away, but Randy's dark blue gaze held me in place.
"Why? Why can't you tell me!?"
"I-I-I made a promise to someone and if I break it... All I know is that I'm trying to protect you. Trying to save you."
"No you are not. Not if you won't tell me."
"UGH! Why can't you just let it go! I... I just..." And that's when it just broke loose. Tears cascaded down my face and I wanted to stop. But I couldn't. I gave into Randy's soft and warm arms as he pulled me into a hug. My shoulders shook, my lungs ached, and I felt like the wall was coming down, piece by piece until it felt like I was rattling off boulders of it.
"I'm sorry...," I whispered. Randy was silent for a moment. I felt his chest rise and fall with a thick sigh and we went back to his house. Sure, we were playing hookie, but when you just need to get something out in the open, you can do what ever you want.
We were back at Randy's and his parents were out at work, so we just sat down in the silence of the empty rooms. "What are your secrets?" Randy asked, sitting across from me. "Sorry, I mean...! Gah... I just really want to know. I'm sorry if I'm being a little pushy." I looked away and blinked at the ground in front of me. I took in a deep breathe, ready to break the wall for real.
"This is gonna sound really, really, really crazy."
"I can handle crazy," Randy said with a smile.
"I... I'm the White Ninja," I said, my face turning red.
Randy's POV:
What do I say!? I know I just went through that whole "If you tell me your secrets, I'll tell you mine," thing. But... I wasn't really expecting her to come out and say this. "Wow! That's... that's awesome, Y/N! You're protecting the Ni- I mean, Norriseville with the Ninja? Sounds pretty burce," I tried to say encouragingly. Y/N blinked slowly put her head in her hands, hissing out a deep breathe.
"And there have been other Ninja than normal. More like, two others. And I'm really not happy with the way one of them is acting towards me. I think she's here to take my place and leave me behind," she whispered. We sat there in silence for a bit. It seemed like a heavy topic to cover. And a broad one too. But, should I tell her I'm the Ninja? She is my girlfriend after all! Yet, something in my heart says I shouldn't. Maybe it's the Nomicon or something like that. I don't know.
"So, that's it?" I ask quietly. Y/N nods and closes her eyes. I get up from where I am and walk over to her, sitting beside her. "I'm sorry... I really don't know what this feels like," I lied, and to be honest, it was a pretty smooth lie too.
I put my arms around Y/N and we stayed that way for a long time before we fell asleep to the sound of rain outside the house.
(Later That Night)
The moon was covered by the dark gray clouds. I was meeting the Gray Ninja and Blue tonight again, but Snowbird said she wouldn't be coming tonight. The park was once again silent and empty, except for an anonymous figure by the small fountain in the middle of the park. Rain was still sprinkling the leaves and sidewalk, so things were a little slippery. "Hello?" I called down to the figure. He didn't move. I leapt (it was more like slipped and fell gracefully) into the grass. I stood and walked over slowly.
Before I knew it, the figure was standing only two feet in front of me. "You are the Red Ninja," he said in a low voice. I swallowed and nodded.
"I am Reaper, Gray Ninja. I have been searching for you. Where is Blue?" he asked rapidly. I held up my hand and three fingers, counting down to one. And there appeared the bright blue Ninja. "Greetings, Reaper. It's been a while," Blue said, nodding to the Gray Ninja.
"Longer for you then me, B." He nodded back. "Where are the others? I thought they were coming tonight?" Blue shook her head and looked towards the fountain.
"I haven't gotten word from Esmerelda, Ruby, or Sakira. But the others are on their way. Any news on... her? "
I looked between them, confused. "Who's here?" I asked.
"Raven Lord. The evil at the heart of everyone of us. She wasn't with the the Sorcerer that you faced and defeated. She was a villain that was quiet and patient. She worked with First Ninja and his Protector. Once she had cornered Shira and had turned her against First Ninja. In the end, Shira was lost and First Ninja had to kill his beloved- I mean, his partner. Raven Lord was cast out, but she promised to come back one day. She turned to a spirit at some point, so she can haunt us and take control of our bodies at any moment in time," Blue explained with a sad look in her icy blue eyes.
"Wait... So she can haunt only he Ninja?" I asked, my blood turning cold. Reaper nodded. I started to feel light headed, and backed up. Snowbird... Y/N...!
