Farewell to the Moon
A/N song has nothing to do with it I think it sort of sets a tone and I like it
Little puffs of water vapor fanned out across the air, sycronized with the rising and falling of a young female's chest. Dirt conformed to her naked feet as she walked, her weight creating indents in the earth as she moved. She seemed unfocused, eyes slightly glazed due to abnormally high temperature. She should've stayed at the apartment, but it's stuffy confines made her restless. Since when was she one to listen to common sense anyway? So the female followed a ritual embedded into her nature bestowed upon wolf and human long ago. Her instincts lead her to a small space between two trees, fatigue momentarily overriding her senses as she approached the gap. Her eyes closed as she focused on evening her breathing, a small amount of sweat clinging to her skin. When she finally gathered herself she felt herself focusing on the cooler atmosphere surrounding her. And then she smelled something familiar in the air, a whisp of scent then it was gone. Ghost like images flickered in her mind, the silhouette of a father she no longer recalled and vague images of a mother ever so fleeting. This caused her to reach for a black necklace around her neck, a silver cresant moon charm at the end of it. In a thoughtful gesture she ran her fingers over the charm before tucking it away. An abnormity in the branch movement caught her attention causing her eyes to narrow and a animalistic growl to escape her throat, as she faced whatever the creature, locking eyes with a magpie. "Damn thing gave me heart attack! You're supposed to fear me not the other way around" she rolled her eyes annoyed at her own quickness to startle. The magpie simply stared down at her, it's presence seemingly a bit offputing before it spread it's wings and disappeared amongst the horizon. However she placed the blame on the birds beady eyes settling on the conclusion birds were indeed creepy.
(No pun intended lolol)
With that distraction gone she turned her attention back to her surroundings. The whisp of another scent made her instincts roar, every unpleasant wound of the past ripped open. Her mind weighed two opinions in milliseconds, body seemingly acting on its own accord as she hurried her feet, whipping around fleeing like the prey she had chased so many times in the forest. At first she didn't feel it, just a sting as she shifted from human to beast, but as she ran it become worse her clumsy footing agrivating it. A throbbing sensation in her leg caused her to subconsciously shift her weight to her other three legs to avoid putting an abundance of pressure on it. In the beginning her adrenaline numbed the symptoms for the most part, the previous balance of life in the forest dismantled as the wolf barreled through the woods. The rapid beating of her heart trying to keep up with her body's demand allowed precious life blood to splatter along fallen leaves and mix into the soil leaving a trail. When she couldn't support herself any longer she stopped, wincing and shifting back to human to stop the bleeding, a clear hole in her thigh. Though limping she managed a few more feet, placing her necklace on a lower branch for him to find. Was this her only way of saying goodbye? Would he even find it? Using the trees as support she slowly moved away, fear and pain driving her body to push on despite her exhaustion. Slowly her body gave in and she sank down, trying to catch her breath. "Shit" she mumbled, applying pressure to the wound, lacking the energy to do much more. "Had to be today. Not some other day. Asshole" she grumbled. Loosing track of time and blood she struggled back to her feet.
She knew she shouldn't be moving, but she didn't have much of an option. However an acute gasp escaped her lips as a hand wrapped a hand around her arm and yanked her back, a blade's edge burrowing into her flesh, severing sinews and resting in the jugular. She gasped and struggled, throwing her elbow back weakly and shuttering as the blade was removed. Her hand instinctively clutched the wound to slow the bleeding, coughing and sputtering as blood seeped down her airway back to her lungs. Instict once more emerged filling her with panic and desperation. "You've illuded me for ten years" a male voice spoke. "You may not remember my name but I will tell it to you now. My name is Anton and I was tasked with killing your family ten years ago. I have now succeeded. Rest well Luna Castellano."
Moon sent a hard glare his way, forgetting her panic momentarily. She had a retort, but her predicament restricted the ability to voice it. When he stepped away her mind traveled to its only source of comfort.
There may have been a time when she had accepted dying alone, saw it fit for herself. She had been alone since she was twelve years old, she never saw the point of having someone around. Her perspective changed after she met him however. She longed to feel his comforting arms wrap around her in a sweet hug. She mourned never being able to hear his voice again, even if he was scolding her, or see his amazing smile that she strived to put on his face every day. As much as she hated to admit it, that opportunity shattered and spewed away faster then her vital fluid flowed from the opening in her neck. She was alone again. Ignoring the murmurs in the back of her mind warning at her to stay awake, she closed her eyes recalling everything from fond memories, to bittersweet ones. Creepy and her weren't perfect, they both had flaws and drove each other crazy from time to time but little moments made it okay. And so she labored to take her final breath before the world fell silent. Comforted by her memories she didn't feel so alone anymore.
A/N some of the pacing is a bit fast and the end might seem rushed but I did it! Creepy_The_Wolf
