(Q/A 2) Thoughts on Smash Bros Characters
Asked by:
...I don't know whether to include Brawl and Melee but I'll just use the Smash 4 roster.
Mario: Whenever I think Mario in Smash, I think of this one fight I had with a friend, where we did random custom and he got a Mario with the worst moves and I got a Sonic with my normal moveset.
Then, next round I got a bad Mario lol
Luigi: Actually can be annoying if the opponent knows what they are doing. And he has a killer taunt (Literally)
Peach: Her butt slam move. Need I say more? And why is Mario trying to save her if she can handle Bowser herself?
Bowser: Actually a bit fun to play with.
Unless the opponent is a fast character.
Yoshi: I quite like Yoshi and main him in Mario Cart. The egg roll move is good and eating someone right next to an edge sometimes means death for them. Oh, and it's cool how his shield is his egg! Did they remove the dragon-Yoshi Final Smash for this game? I've forgotten. In Brawl it was really strong.
Rosalina & Luma: She can grab items from very far away. And that's all I can say.
Bowser Jr.: One of the first new additions to the list I tried. He's definitely strong and can suit a lot of people.
Wario: ...hi? His stage, Warioware (Which was removed from Smash Wii U but is in 3DS and of course, Brawl) is fun to play in, but Wario himself is hard to control.
Donkey Kong: Strong. And interesting to get on random custom. Also, I quite like his Final Smash; it's like a rhythm game!
Diddy Kong: Peanut guns and banana peels. Need I say more? Anyway, during Subspace Emissionary in Brawl he was a big help as I was bad at using Fox. (And thus I let my sister use Fox.)
Mr Game & Watch: I was actually quite happy when he returned in this game. (When it came out.) I thought they would take him out, but I was wrong! A fun character to use, especially with his luck-based hammer move. Although, I would always get an 8 or 9 when missing. I always remember in All Star mode that he's the first you face, in both Brawl and 4.
Little Mac: SIDE B OFF THE STAGE!!! I remember playing with the one who asked this question (Hougetsu, I'm talking about you) and it was stock with 2 CPUs. The last one was Little Mac, and we both had one stock. Then I side B(ed?) off the stage as Sonic.
Link: One of the best characters in the game. He's got a lot of attack power, has both melee and ranged and his up B, the Spin Attack is OP. Fun fact: When I first got Super Smash Brawl I was gifted Ocarina of Time (OoT) for the Gamecube (we played it on the Gamecube then sold that, so we played it on the Wii) so my sister and I noticed that the Link in that game and the Link in Smash were the same person, as that was my sister's main.
Zelda: When Sheik and Zelda were one person in Brawl, she was my main as her Final Smash was OP, I could control her very easily and actually had some strategies with them! Now, I'm starting to forget and I don't use her as much.
Sheik: ...Do I really have to explain? Oh, and playing Brawl before finishing OoT gave some spoilers for the game, as I also spotted Sheik in one of the opening demos for the game.
Ganondorf: I use him when I need a powerful character who doesn't need speed, and sometimes to counter my sister, although she does use a fast Toon Link.
Toon Link: Oh no. This is my sister's main, and she had a custom with the speed set to the max, and I think she did that to her Amiibo as well. She spams the 'Sword in the Stone' move, where Toon Link slams the sword downwards into the ground and an opponent, ad with his speed he can get up and use it again. Oh, and Spin Attacks are annoying to recieve as well. Also, in Brawl when we were children, we couldn't get Toon Link no matter what we did, so we asked our father as Ganondorf to try, and guess what? Toon Link began walking towards him as we tried to give him the controller, and was shot by a canon in his own stage and died.
Samus: Ah, who ca remember when Samus and Zero Suit Samus where counted as the same character, and you could only swap after a Final Smash? It was a bit annoying, but she was fun to play as, and she was one my most used characters for Brawl, especially during Classic Mode. You had to do 10 Classic Mode(s?) with different characters in each in order to get Sonic, so once I tried with Samus and found a new main. I don't use her as much now though.
Zero Suit Samus: Needs no explanation.
Pit: My second Main. In Brawl, I used to always use him along with the Pokemon Trainer (Whom they removed from 4 but will re-add in Ultimate) for everything! Even when I got Sonic, I still used him! I didn't even know what game he was from, and Kid Icarus Uprising (KI:U)didn't exist yet! He had really strong moves (they changed his moveset), with his up B being OP as it could be infinitely spammed with him shouting "HI YA YA YA YA!" each time you did so! His up B also was OP, as you could jump as normal which led him to fly with 2-3 flaps of his wings (I think? I've forgotten) then you could use his up Smash which was the same but his wings glowed blue and lifted you higher. There was one custom stage we made (when it was easy to make custom stages) where it was tall and had the gear-like platforms everywhere (we called it 'Fixing Gears') and Pit was the best to use there, no doubt. Ah shoot, this is getting long... Anyway, his original Final Smash was when he summoned Palutena's Army (many, MANY Centurions) to attack other players, but that has been changed to him using the Three Sacred Treasures to attack instead, and it attacks pretty much everyone on the field if you position it right. His moveset also changed with the new game KI:U, so he had an Upper Cut using an arm weapon as his side Smash instead, whist keeping his old one as a side A. I would love to say more, but this is getting a bit long...
Palutena: I had NO IDEA that she would be added to Smash, but hey, it happened! I actually spent a bit of time trying to remember the name of Pit's Final Smash as a child, and while viewing the trophy I was like "...Is that Palutena in the back?" She's a good character with all her custom moves unlocked at the beginning. I guess she has many different ones as not only is she a Goddess, it show cases most KI:U mechanics and abilities that the Player as Pit can use (Auto Reticle, Light Weight I think it's called, and quite a few others that I can't think of right now), and some of the moves where (I think) used when she was... Oh, spoilers. Sadly, she's not that good if not customized (at least I'm not good at utilizing her lol) so I only use her if I'm allowed customs.
Marth: When I first saw the Vocaloid Kaito, I was like "Is that Marth?" Anyway, I remember my sister used to use him a bit in Brawl the she swapped to using Ike then Link. Oh, and I rememeber using him in a Metroid stage in Brawl for some reason, but that's all I can say right now.
Ike: Ah Ike, why must your up Smash be so risky? He's a bit slow for my play style, but can be annoying to fight against sometimes.
Robin: I actually do like playing as him, and I've bet some people multiple times using him, but I'm not the best Robin player.
Duck Hunt Duo: I can't play as this guy, no matter how hard I try, but they were an interesting addition to the game.
Kirby: Kirby was one of my mains during Brawl, as he had an infinite spamming move, but now I'm better at using him and everyone knows not to mess with my custom Kirby, who has the one hit kill hammer move. Also, the multi-jumping is helpful and the rock (or weight etc.) drop move is strong too, while his up Smash is best for the offense rather than going up, although it grabs ledges easily. Oh, and who remembers his Final Smash for Brawl? The one where he can put everyone in a pot no matter where the were? That was great, but they changed it as it was too strong. Also, as a child I thought he was cute.
I still do.
King Dedede: I remember using him a lot during Brawl, as he was strong (HAMMER TIME!!!), has multiple jumps and his Final Smash was great. Oh, and he could (can't remember if he still can) summon his minions at will, including Waddle Doos and others.
Meta Knight: It sucks when someone decides to use Meta Knight against you. He's too string and can spam, although there are multiple ways to win against him.
Fox: ...I don't know what to say?
Falco: Again, dunno what to say.
Pikachu: Not the best, I hardly use him.
Charizard: They swapped Pokemon Trainer with him/her. Why? Oh well, I guess.
Lucario: Best Pokemon.
Hands down.
Okay, he/she is my favourite Pokemon, they are strong with good melee and good ranged attacks and on they are of my Mains. Aura sphere is good as you can charge up then run, then shoot sometime later. Also, it's cool how the higher your percentage is, the higher power aura based attacks are, although they max out at some point. The original Final Smash from Brawl was DragonBall Z like, but I liked it, and now it's a Mega Evolution that can deal a lot of damage and makes the Aura Sphere's range and size bigger! You know, I had a female one in Platinum named Maya, then my game corrupted, then I got a male named Oliver. I then shiny hunted with a friend for a shiny in Sun years later, and I named him Oliver! (Shiny Mega is awesome!)
Jigglypuff: Jigglypuff. I used to say he was trash, but now I don't as he's actually quite good. (I learnt that after playing against my Amiibo). Sing is really strong but hard to pull off, so I normally just roll around. (I would love to make a City Escape reference, but...)
Greninja: Greninja is actually quite good, and also has a taunt that can deal damage. Water Shuriken is a good ranged attack, and their up B can definitely launch them far. As we end off the Pokemon, they should have added the shinies as seperate colours for each one, who agrees?
R.O.B: They are a NES (?) with style! He used to be my sister's Main (And probably still is one of them) and is strong in general. HIs laser beams are unpredictable and when his laser beams begin getting weaker, you won't know when they will come back at full strength, so I avoid getting hit by them at all times. Also, did they change their Final Smash? I can't remember, but they did have one where they shot an oversized laser beam.
Ness: OKEY (I'm sorry) Ness is quite strong but I find him hard to play as, especially since his up Smash needs to hit him in order to launch him upwards, but if you get it right you can hurt others while shooting up, and it can be used as a good attack.
Captain Falcon: FALCON POUNCH!!! Um, *ahem*, he's annoyingly strong and is my Skype friend's second Main. He's definitely a good Captain Falcon player and when all things go wrong he swaps to him. I sometimes win, I sometimes lose, but of course, that's also what Smash is about! But honestly, that guy is a challenge to beat, especially against his actual Main.
Villager: Animal Crossing is fun. Wait let me restart-
He/She is one of my Mains, and is indeed one my most annoying one. I normally camp in 3+ player battles and grow trees on people or chop them down onto them. I remember my Skype friend and I both used Villager and that was full chaos. We either grew trees, slammed pots at each other, exploded fireworks, shoot Llyods at each other whilst pocketing the other's projectiles (and trees? How and why does it work?). Ah, fun times online.
Olimar: I used to use him in Brawl for some reason, but now I don't. It's a little hard always having to pick new Pikmin and trying to get the one you want. (I'm always trying to get the white or purple ones!) Also, Olimar on his own doesn't do much, so once you run out and can't pick out new Pikmin quick enough, then R.I.P you. Unless you are good at playing as Olimar, then good job.
Wii Fit Trainer: My first impression of her: Why? What was the point? But then I realized that she wasn't that bad. My sister can play as her quite decently, my Skype friend tried her out as a joke and Hougetsu (It was you, right?) played her well too.
Then there's me. Trying to figure out how to use Deep Breathing. So yeah, everyone can actually play as her, but I can't.
Shulk: Oh I am really bad at playing at him.
Let's leave it there...
Dr. Mario: I mean, he's okay, but I'm not a good Mario player, no matter which Mario. It is quite cool that they made him a clone, but at the same time it was unnecessary.
Dark Pit: I. Am. HAPPY. That they added Pittoo to the game!!! He may just be Pit with stronger arrows that are harder to control, but I am certain that many KI:U fans were happy to see him in the game. It would have been cool that for the new game (Ultimate) they could make him different, like giving him other weapons. (Like Claws, Blades and other weapons they left in the dust.) This is my Skype friend's Main, and we normally have Pit vs Dark Pit, which is always fun.
Lucina: No idea why, but I prefer her over Marth, but I don't know the difference between them.
Pac-Man: A very interesting addition for the game. I mean, I do use him a bit, but I can't figure out how to utilize his abilities. Whoops? Really, I had no idea at the time that he would be added, and what I really dislike about him is that...
He had a funny glitch. And Nintendo removed it before I could try it.
Yeah, he's strong and the hydrant if placed on people or in the right place can really annoy people, as it's a good edge guard. The trampoline, his up Smash, can be used against you, which is annoying, as someone may jump on it first, but that is rare.
Megaman: ...
OHJGFDTDFHGJHKJIKDSHVNM WOT?
That was pretty much my reaction when I learnt he was going to be put in the game. He's a great ranged character with a ton of moves to choose from, each one being unique and from across the Megaman games. And the stage? Well, let's just say it's one of the most hated stages because of the Yellow Devil, who can attack you at any time. And that's why I love the stage. To annoy everyone! :)
But yes, he is a great character, although it may take some time to adjust to using only ranged attacks. (Especially with 2 melee Mains like me.)
Sonic The Hedgehog: This may get long...
So, he is actually the only reason that I, as a child, tried Super Smash Bros Brawl. He was on the back, along with some other faces I recognized, so we rented the game for a while. Then bought the game after seeing how fun it was. That game was very expensive back then, but we were lucky and found a cheap one.
It took a long time to get him, (even longer than getting Toon Link), but after 10 Classic Modes, the last one with Zero Suit Samus, I fought against him and miraculousy won the first time, which was probably sheer luck of finding a Smash Ball. A Smash Ball!!! How...?
Anyway, he instantly became my main and he was quite easy to use, and now in Smash 4..
They didn't change his moveset, so I just got better and better, eventually figuring out strategies. My current one is just continuously dodge, do homing attacks, do the occasional spin dash and speed past my opponent, being to fast to hit. It works, most of the time.
He's OP, but his Final Smash is really hard to control. (I still find it a hassle to control his Super form, but that's probably because I swap controllers so much.)
And then, I learnt that they made it easier to control and STRONGER in Ultimate so...
Sorry guys, I'm not doing all the DLCs, just Mewtwo and Lucas as that's the only one have 'used'.
Mewtwo: So, I have a Mewtwo Amiibo, and although Lucario is a Mewtwo clone, I think they have swapped some of his moves from Melee, so he's stronger.
Lucas: Everyone. EVERYONE was happy when they said Lucas would be a DLC and a fighter in Ultimate. I was too, as Lucas was a good boy.
Not a DLC, but...
Pokemon Trainer: He was my 3rd Main back in the day, and was really, REALLY good. I used Ivysaur the most, and Charizard was good too, but I think they changed a few moves, idk. And guess what? He's coming back to Ultimate!
Solid Snake: He's coming back to Ultimate! (Yay?) I think I played as him a bit.
Ice Climbers: This duo were strong and their were two of them! It was awesome playing as them, as killing Nana wouldn't actually kill you but killing Popo would, but yeah! AND THEY ARE COMING TO ULTIMATE TOO!!!
I have a few people I want for Smash:
Viridi (KI:U): She's the Earth Goddess. It'd be cool if they added her, although she is in the Wrath of the Reset Bomb stage.
Tails (STH): Probably as a DLC, I would love to see Tails in the game. Or Shadow, although he's an assist trophy.
Zero (MMX): Or just Megaman X, he would be an excellent addition to the roster!
(Dun kill me) Sans/Papyrus (UT): I mean, the only reason I want them to be in the game is because I thought of a stage idea: The stage changes dependent on the music and is random, and will be one of the boss fights of Undertale or just a normal monster fight. It will go from the area, where you will see Frisk in the back talking to the Boss or encountering a monster, then it goes into the battle and you will have to avoid all the attacks, normal monster (probably Froggit) being the easiest and Sans being the hardest. Just an idea. Also, if they did add an Undertale character, it'd be fine if they were sprites and not 3D models.
Miku?: My sister keeps saying she wants a Vocaloid in Smash, and I'm like "IT WON'T WORK!!!"
But, I do have an idea for the Kagamines: One could be melee, the other ranged (Probably Len would be ranged). But that's all I can come up with.
Those were really random, but that's all for now!
Bye!
(3368 words wtf)
(That's why it took hours-)
