Wolf Became One of Those People...
You know how you have those people selling tickets to Semi-Formal and Prom? Well I ended up as one of them.
This girl and I, whom we shall call Lexi both have the same lunch period and we had three days to sell tickets. The first I had no clue about, the second our art teacher forgot to give us the tickets and her room was locked, the third was the day I sold a ticket.
We're set up just outside the cafeteria in a hallway. We're right by the band room, and if you walk to our left, you pass the tech room, the janitors room and then you can exit the school, to our right is a ramp take you walk up, past the side entrance to the auditorium and last that to another hallway. On either side of us are the entrances to the cafeteria.
We're sitting behind this tiny table, an okayish sized sign behind us.
I shit you not... we only sold one ticket.
It was to this one girl, who's Ice Cream I held while she wrote her name in our record note book and payed us.
So Lexi and I pretty much just sat there, her on her phone, and I reading. That was until the senior who worked crew on elf with us came along.
We'll call her Maude.
Maude came up and said the following, "Okay, I'm going to make a joke here, don't take it seriously. But if I'm brining 600 people about how much would I have to pay?"
All three of us spoke to one another and eventually I say to Maude, "Wait... how many people did you hire to come with you?"
Maude replied with something along the lines of, "Well most of them are Male Strippers... and a few of them are guy friends."
"The strippers have to buy their own tickets... school policy."
Insert Lexi chuckling.
However the conversation turned to our ticket sales... which to say it rather fancily... were deplorable.
We eventually began talking about ways to improve them.
Me: We need a blinking sign.
Maude; Have male strippers dancing.
Lexi: (I can't remember what she said)
Me: We should give out free food if someone buys a ticket.
Lexi: Yes!
We didn't give out free food by the way. We did however deal with one of those people who thinks he's all that.
This one kid, whose name shall now be Tony walks up to our table. "So when's Semi-Formal?" He asks.
Now Tony is wearing a white shirt... that had a pale red stain on it. Pale enough to look pinkish, but still not so pale so you could actually see it.
I told him he had a stain from his shirt and he mumbled a response I could barley understand, and I then proceeded to tell him it looked like blood.
So Lexi begins to answer his questions.
When is it?
The date is on the ticket.
How much does it cost?
Five dollars. (Meanwhile the price is on the announcements each morning, and on the sign behind us)
Why does it cost so much?
Because it's how the school gets money. It's a fundraiser.
Insert Wolf saying it's a fundraiser for Art Club. It really is. We plan it, budget, set it up, choose the theme, and make all the decorations. And all of the measly amount of money we make goes to our field trip at the end of the year.
The kid eventually tells us that he may buy a ticket tomorrow if we're there (which we weren't).
The rest of lunch past with my starting up a game of I-Spy with Maude to keep her entertained because she was bored.
The other days they sold a few more, and our club President seems to be a superstar at selling them.
But it's still a low number. Semi-Formal is nothing like it is in the movies, with its Under-The Sea theme, the guy getting the girl and all that sappy stuff. It's just drama, and in our case Freshmen and Sophomores acting cool.
The Juniors and Seniors don't like to go because they have prom.
While everyone talks about the dresses they've bought I'm sitting here thinking what the hell? I actually said to a girl, why order a dress?
Well it's red carpet Wolf, it's fancy.
I know I helped plan it. Besides you can fin a nice dress in your closet to wear (and I know this girl has some nice stuff).
Wolf, it's fancy.
I know I helped plan it.
(Insert her finally registering I helped plan it).
I'll never under stand why they always need a nice dress for a semi-formal. Prom I guess I understand why, but Semi-Formal? I have a very nice top in my closet that buttons up and looks like something Little Red Riding Hold would wear if she lived in the Victorian Era... and dressed like she was an Assassin from the original Assassins Creed Game. Now all I need is a nice pair of pants and my heeled boots.
Besides, I've requested to sell food all of the dance because I end up sitting there for 2 and a half hours bored out of my mind.
I can survive the first half hour because then I have to ability to speak with people, but then the group of people I know wanders off and I end up being rather lost. I also don't dance.
Anywho... Clarinet Ensemble Update!
We have a Bass Clarinetist who's never played before... so I'm now not the only one on a new instrument. My Band Teacher revealed to me that the Alto Clarinet is one of the hardest instruments to play in tune, which is why it's not in a lot of concert bands anymore.
He seems to think I have a good ear because I told him one of my biggest problems was playing in tune.
But once he starts working on Marching Band music, on A-Days us Ensemble will head up to the auditorium (you can get backstage through the band room), and we play. His wife, who used to play clarinet and has a musical degree will be there to help us.
During our most recent practice he was telling us about his prior saxophone ensemble. This was the first time in a few years he was doing ensemble. They did what we were going to do on A-Days. They were amazing and brought home awards.
He said that when we come in people will be surprised that we have all these clarinets, that most schools aren't as lucky as we are to have as many different kinds as we do.
And Marching Season is just around the bend! I may inquire if I can march with my Alto. We had a girl who marched with her bass if I remember correctly. And our teacher moved us up to AA class for the big competition we do.
We're butting heads with the big boys as he puts it. We can be a little cocky because if A class we do rather we'll for ourselves, and our drum line is smoking. But we can't do that now... because no one rides the bus home shouting, We're number three! As he puts it.
This is the first time in a while we're competing in every event I guess I should say. If we do well enough, we may have a shot to win the best in class award. It's a decent sized trophy by the way.
We have some old ones on our trophy shelf in the band room (there's a lotta them on there), and we have a couple from Marching and Drumline In the main display in the lobby... I think.
But it's just so exciting. And we're going to D.C this year as State Representatives to march in a national parade!
Okay... I need to calm down and stop wasting your time. I may talk about this more as it era closer.
Here's meh cat.
Peace out!
