Zelda's Dragon Song

Zelda looked at the sky. "Tomorrow, we'll investigate that strange substance coming out of the ground. I wonder what it could possibly be." She looked at her knight-I mean friend-Link. Even though it was dark, she could see the burn scars covering his face.

She felt guilty every time she saw them. This is all my fault. She thought. 'I know that look.' He signed. 'Stop feeling guilty will you.' He read her like a book. She sighed, defeated. "I can't, you were protecting me! I couldn't-"

Link put his hand over her mouth, effectively shutting her up. He removed it and began to sign again. Link could talk, but highly preferred not to. He always said that it made him uncomfortable, and it felt better not to talk. Less emotion conveyed, he said. Or signed, technically.

'Zelda, you didn't do anything wrong. I wasn't able to do my job properly either. Not the first time. But I was able to do it, just like you.' He pulled his friend into a hug. They were not dating, despite what you might think.

Zelda was about to try to argue again, key word being try. She really had no argument, but hey, it's Zelda. What are ya gonna do? She never opened her mouth, because she saw a dragon cross through the sky.

"Oh, look!" She exclaimed, pointing at the golden dragon, with blue horns and spikes on its back. It flowed through the air gracefully, like an ancient dance in the sky. "That's the Light Dragon!"

Zelda pulled out the Purah Pad, given to her by the scientist only two days ago, and she'd already found out how to work every feature without any help. She quickly took a picture, but it wasn't as good as she liked it to be. She shoved it at Link. "Quick! Take a picture!"

Because he was much better at taking pictures, he got multiple shots, all of which captured the beauty of the creature. "How do you do that!" Zelda cried. 'Lots of practice.'

She huffed and resumed talked about the dragon. "Legend says that the dragon is as old as Hyrule itself. Apparently, it was a friend of the first king and queen, King Raru and Queen Sonia. They were said to have special powers, and King Raru was of the Zoani.

"Father used to tell me all about the dragon. Mother loved to see it, when she was a child, she would see it nearly every night. When she first met my father, she saw the dragon that very night. And when he asked her to marry him, she prayed to the goddesses for guidance. That night, the dragon flew right up to her as she walked in a field. She knew it was a sign from the goddesses and said yes the next day.

"The dragon flew over them at their wedding, and overhead on the day I was born. When she was a child, a song was passed down through her family. She would sing it to me, when I was young. She sang it shortly before she died, and my father would always sing it to me after that. It was called the Prelude of Light, but it was originally known as The Song of Light." Zelda started to sing the soft melody.

The soft melody made her start to cry, as she felt her mother's phantom arms wrap her in a hug. "That dragon watched over my mother, and I consider myself blessed to know that it hs awatched me also."

She left out soft tears. "It's okay Zel, I'm here. They're all here." Link spoke rare words, referring to the spirits of the Champions that only he saw. "We're here for you."

Zelda smiled in the dark night. "Let's head back to town." With that, the two friends stood from Hyrule Field, turned from the wrecked castle, and back to the small settlement known as Lookout Landing.
