Loki teleported himself back to the room he was in with the other agent- Mobius. He tossed the little remote that controlled his collar onto the tableland then walked around a bit while holding the now useless Tesseract.
There wasn't a way out of here, he discovered, so he didn't have many other options other than just sitting here and waiting. Maybe what Mobius had to offer would entice Loki well enough that he wouldn't mind not being able to go back.
Suddenly, the door opened behind him. He sort of expected Mobius, but remained cautious anyway. And good thing he was, because when he turned around he saw the agent who had brought him in here. She was not the one he wanted to speak with.
Loki laughed lightly, seeing the fact that she was going on a wild chase for him hilarious. "What so funny?" she asked.
He shrugged. "This. You can't seem to get enough of me, can you?"
The two stared at each other for a long time before hurriedly walking towards each other. When they met by the table, Loki tried to punch her. She, instead, grabbed his arm, hit him back, and pushed him down. Loki groaned in pain when she moved his arm around behind his back and then slammed him onto the table.
His eyes searched the table until he found something useful. The remote to his collar sat there, begging to be picked up. He fulfilled it's wish and grabbed it quickly, then slipped from her grip and put her arm behind her back.
Now, he had no clue how the remote worked, but tried it out anyway. He pressed something and the collar around his neck came sliding off. After slapping the collar around her neck instead, he'd have the advantage.
She turned and tried to punch him, but he ended up using the remote to send her back a ways. The real fun soon began, and Loki had her going through the same loop, over and over again while she was trying to get him to stop. It wasn't painful, at least not in Loki's experience, so he knew he wasn't hurting her. It was just annoying.
Finally, he ended it by sending her off a long time ago. It was enough time to let him sit and wait for the agent he wanted to see show up. He was just going to sit in the chair Mobius had been, but then the little box thing in front of him gained his interest.
This was the little thing that played all of the moments Loki had just been a part of, and the bit of future he saw and didn't believe. What else did the future have in store for him?
He hesitated at first, worried about what he might see. But then he thought "screw it" and tried a button.
The screen started going fast, and when he pressed another button, it stopped on his mother's body laying on the ground. He played the video and watched it focus on his mother and the blood coming from her stab wound and mouth. Tears were already welling up in his eyes.
He pressed the first button again, and then play. It stopped at Odin in what looked like Midgardian clothing. "I love you, my sons," his voice echoed through the room. It cut to show future-Loki looking at Odin when he said those words, and it was an emotion now-Loki couldn't name but understood anyway. "Remember this place. Home," his voice echoed again Then it cut to show Odin turning to sparkling dust and floating away into the air with future-Loki and future-Thor watching in pain. The tears were coming now and now-Loki couldn't do a thing to stop them.
He stood, thinking the film would just... stop itself, really. Loki started to walk over to the other side of the room altering grabbing the Tesseract and sat down on some steps. He placed the Infinity Stone beside him and then placed his head in his hands. "Loki, I thought the world of you." Now-Loki shot his head up and stared at the screen as it showed future-Thor (now with short hair) looking at future-Loki. "I thought we were gonna fight side-by-side forever."
It then cut to show future-Thor (now with one eye) and future-Loki alongside another woman as they stood side-by-side and faced a threat. Now-Loki took in shaky breaths and let tears fall without trying to stop them.
Then it cut to future-Thor saying, "Maybe you're not so bad after all, brother."
Future-Loki appeared and said, "Maybe not."
"Thank you," future-Thor said as now-Loki smiled a genuine smile. "If you were here I might even give you a hug." Now-Loki chuckled lightly and smiled with his jaw lightly shaking- you know, the way it does when you're crying.
"I'm here," future-Loki said. For a moment, a true moment, now-Loki thought he would find his true happiness and that maybe- just maybe- the future wouldn't turn out to be so bad. Maybe it'd be okay to let this Variant version of him go away and get back on track so he could experience these things.
But then the scene shifted again, and rumbling filled the room. Loki stared at his future counter part in confusion, the happiness in his face now gone. Future him suddenly shoved a knife up into the air, aiming for no-one other than Thanos. Now-Loki was startled slightly, especially when the knife stopped suddenly.
"Undying?" future-Thanos asked in a chilling voice. "You should chose your words more carefully." Now-Loki sat up slightly, unable to use his legs because of the fact that they were frozen from shock. What was happening?
When future-Thanos started to pick future-Loki up by the neck with his Infinity Gauntlet, now-Loki started to shake from anger. He watched himself struggle and fight, but it wasn't enough, it wasn't even close to anything.
The icing on the cake was when future-Loki began to choke out his last words. "You... will never be... a god." Now-Loki got to see a close up of his dying face, and flinched at the echoing crack of bones- his neck bones. He let out a breath and his eyes went wide. It hurt too much to keep looking, and so he tore his gaze away and stared to the floor in front of him. That image would never go away, no matter how hard he squeezed his eyes shut.
More rumbling sounded through the room, and Loki managed to pull his head up enough to see future-Thor clutching a now dead future-Loki as the thing they were in started to explode. A large explosion took the screen to black as now-Loki took in panicky breaths. He had just witnessed himself finally getting a good life and then being murdered by the being he hated most in this world.
The black screen was interrupted by the words "End of File" coming up in the middle. He could't get himself to move and turn it off or do anything. Blood was rushing to his ears and he was stuck staring at the screen that might as well be saying "End of Loki."
He was so caught up, he barely heard the door open. He didn't move, but didn't care enough to. Loki's emotions were running too wild for him to care about who was in here with him. Besides, he wasn't collared anymore so he couldn't be time-manipulated anymore.
The door was closed, and then he heard, "Loki?" It was Agent Mobius back in here. "Nowhere left to run." But Loki didn't want to run. He couldn't anyway.
Agent Mobius held the pruning stick up as defense, but noticed the Variant Loki wasn't going to do anything. He then looked over and saw the he was staring at the "End of File" screen. A conclusion came to Mobius' mind: Loki had seen what he'd become. His death and the death of his parents.
Loki finally turned to look at Agent Mobius. Emotions were still evident all over his face because of the tears that had left their trails, but Loki didn't care at this point in time. He had just witnessed the end of his life and he couldn't do a damn thing about it.
Taking in a shaky, deep breath, Loki said, "I don't enjoy hurting people." Even though he tried to steady his voice, it still came out a bit wobbly. "I... I don't enjoy it. I do it because I have to, because I've had to."
Mobius nodded along and let the pruning stick relax by his side. "Okay, explain that to me," he said, hoping to get more out of this Loki.
"Because it's part of the illusion," Loki answered. "It's the cruel elaborate trick conjured by the weak," he gestured to himself, "to inspire fear."
Mobius nodded. "A desperate play for control," he said. Agent Mobius took a few steps forward. "You do know yourself."
Loki sighed and said, "A villain." That's who he was, and that's how he died. It's the legacy he left behind and it was how everyone would see him for the rest of their lives until his memory died off.
But Mobius shook his head. "That's not how I see it," he countered. Loki couldn't keep the eye contact anymore and instead picked up the Tesseract by his side. "You tried to use that?" Mobius asked him.
"Oh, several times," Loki admitted quickly, glad to be moving away from the emotional subjects they were on. "Even an Infinity Stone is useless here." Loki scoffed and held the cube between his hands and looked into the glow. Nothing.
He tossed it and caught it while adding on, "The TVA is formidable."
As Loki set the Tesseract down, Mobius nodded. "That's been my experience," he said. "Listen, I can't offer you salvation, but maybe I can offer you something better." Loki was intrigued, and started to stand up and walk to Mobius while the agent kept speaking. "A fugitive Variant's been killing our Minutemen."
Loki shrugged. "And you need the God of Mischief to help you stop him?" he asked. Mobius nodded. "Why me?"
Mobius sighed. "The Variant we're hunting is... you."
Loki's eyebrows went up in confusion and he went wide eyed. "I beg your pardon?"
