Raising Akuji #1

Blackout shivered at the cold winds around him. He held his brother tightly to him while he walked away from the place he had once called home. It was cold and dark outside, the stars and moon being the only light. As blackout walked into an alleyway, trying to think of a place for them to stay, it began to pour.

The baby in his arms whimpering at the cold around him, blackout quickly pulled him to his chest and used his tails to keep his brother warm. "It will be okay baby bro..." he whispered as he kept walking. He walked out of the alleyway and onto a sidewalk. People rushed by him, bumping into him as they walked by, umbrellas over their heads.

Blackout attempted to talk to several passerbys but they all shoved him away, giving him harsh glares. The baby in his arms whined from hunger and cold and blackout shushed him, rocking him gently. Blackout was soaked but he kept pressing on.

Blackout thought of an orphanage, but knowing how his parents had reacted to the baby he doubted they would care to much about his brother either.

Knowing this he still had to try and he pushed on through the heavy weight of the never ending downpour. After a long while of walking he reached the towns orphanage. In Hope's he knocked on their door.

No answer. He knocked again, struggling to keep his brother quiet. After a few more knocks someone answered. A nun opened the door and blackout smiled weakly. The nun worried over blackout but blackout was more worried about his baby brother.

The nun was sympathetic to their situation of course, or at least until she saw akuji. She cursed him calling him many things, saying they couldn't take him in. She slammed the door and blackout's ears lowered. He pleaded at the door in the roaring rain for a while before giving up and moving on.

He walked for a while, making sure he held the tears he wanted to desperately let out were held in. His legs became very weak and they wanted to give out but he knew he needed to keep walking. He couldn't stop walking until he found a good place for them to live.

Blackout came upon an appartment complex and he entered, a bell chiming to show someone had entered. Blackout's boots left footprints in his wake from all the rain. Akuji whimpered the bright lights of the building seeming to scare him.

Blackout rocked him very weakly, all strength he could have possibly had leaving his body. He looked up with watery eyes, the rain in his fur dripping down into his eyes. There was a very young woman, sitting at the counter, looking down at a book.

Blackout tapped the counter weakly and whimpered softly, his voice leaving him at the moment. The deer had hears the door chine and she looked below the countertop. There stood blackout holding a bundle that seemd dry. His tails must have kept all the rain off of his brother.

The lady was shocked and blackout explained his situation to her, his voice barely a whisper now.

Thankfully this deer had very good hearing and she was willing to help him. At a cost however. Blackoit was willing to pay this cost, knowing he would be stuck in debt for a while.

As long as they had a roof over their head's blackout was satisfied. They would get to stay there but the rent cost would be there as well, a giant debt that would pile up until blackout could get a job and pay the debt off.

Blackout went into the apartment room relieved that he even would have a place to keep his brother warm.

Food would be the next issue but for now it wasnt on his mind. Sleep. A bed. That's all he wanted. He opened the door to their apartment and entered, shutting the door behind him.

Their wasnt much in that apartment. Lots of empty rooms he noted. But there was a couch in the living room, a box half full of packing peanuts, a sheet on the couch, a small carpet and a bathroom full of towels and bathroom supplies.

His baby brother whined and blackout thought for a while on how he would be able to make a bed for the baby. He soon got an idea and with the help of his tails began making a makeshift bed for his brother.

He used the small carpet and folded it up to fit into the box. He used it to cover the packing peanuts and serve as a mattress of sorts. Then he set his brother down in the box on the folded up carpet, before using the blanket on the couch to tuck his baby brother in.

A shiver ran up blackouts spine, reminding him he was still wearing soaking wet clothes. He had thankfully been able to get a few things from his house before they kicked him out.

His  pajamas and his sketchbook and a few pencils, and a pencil sharpener. Blackout changed in the bathroom, taking lots of the towels to use as blankets.

He layed on the couch, having set his wet clothes by a vent that had been running warm air through it. He put the box with his brother in it next to him. The baby reached out and grabbed blackout's finger and blackout smiled.

He cooed to the baby weakly, helping his brother fall into a deep sleep. Soon he passed out on the couch thankful he had locked the doors before hand.

The brothers slept peacefully in their new apartment, cold but happy.
