Before the camera was invented, you couldnt ever see yourself by the way you are.

Sure, you could use a mirror or someone might paint a picture of you, but there are some albeit minor but differences between YOU and the reflection/painting. A mirror always reverses things and a painter painting you has a lot room for error and it doesnt capture YOU unless the painter is a legend or something...
