Insecurity

The common inflection for one's insecurities is a voice; a voice in the back of your head. A voice that is constantly telling you that you arent good enough, a voice that is always making you second guess yourself regardless of the situation etc etc. While that is true to some extent, I have a different perspective of insecurity, or atleast a different way of explaining it. Enjoy!

Imagine yourself to be a road, a piece of pavement. A bit weird, I know, but bear with me. On this fictional piece of Autostrada, the asphalt or concrete or whatever it is covered with represents your outer persona, while the base course under the Asphalt represents your morales and ideals. Now, your outer persona goes through the most traffic and so eventually, some wear and tear occur. Cracks appear, potholes happen etc. These represent your flaws. Every road experiences traffic though, so thats only natural. Afterall, thats what roads are for right? Yeah, so far so good.

But thats where the idea of the invisible and ever-present drill machine comes in. Why is it an invisible and ever-present drill machine you ask? Well, because I couldnt find another metaphor for it and neither could Google, but that doesnt matter. This invisible and ever-present drill machine keeps drilling and drilling into those cracks and potholes. It opens them up and it keeps digging deeper and deeper. It breaks up the asphalt and keeps lowering the overall quality of the road. Because of that, the cars going through the road have a bumpy and rough time, and so does the road. As time goes on and as the invisible and ever-present drill machine keeps on drilling, the road gets further destroyed. At one point, a car will carelessly try and speed through the road, and an accident will happen. Both the car and the road will be damaged. In time, the road will be in such a poor condition that it will be completely closed off, no car daring to go through it. The road will lie unused and unwanted, with dust gathering on the asphalt.

And the invisible and ever-present drill will keep on drilling. It will eventually drill through the asphalt and into the base course. It will break that apart, and the road will be no more. What was once a road will then be nothing more than a dirt path. The invisible and ever-present drill is insecurity and thats what insecurity does to people.

How do you stop the invisible and ever-present drill? Truth be told, I dont know. I havent figured it out yet myself. But for the sake of finishing the metaphor, lets just say you ask for help. You put up signs so that the cars will be more careful. You ask the cement trucks and excavators to lend you a hand. You call up the road maintenance services and explain your situation to them. Do whatever you can to fix yourself. Use stronger cement? Whatever, just make sure you stop the invisible and ever-present drill machine.

Hope this was interesting, and something pretty different from the usual voice in your head stuff. Theres a certain fun to making something original, no matter how crazy or weird it may be. Thanks for reading!
