Cricket
Cricket Cricket Cricket. If you ever asked me why i loved this sport so much i would just tell you to watch the 2019 World Cup Final. What a match, what a game, what a sport. I had been a neutral fan only interested in a good close match and man had i gotten what i wanted. But i was also a bit more than a casual neutral fan- ive been following a select few people for a couple of years now, and it was just so mesmerizing. it all seemed like a movie, the players coming of age, players who got so far and tried so hard yet failed, the players who gave it their all and won it for their country- Each of them had their own stories, had their own characters and had their own destinies.
Ben Stokes - who had the traumatic experience of bowling the last over in the last World Cup Final where he was hit for 4 sixes and lost the game for England- played out of his skin to give himself what is most probably the most movie-like redemption arc there ever was in cricket, everything that was happening seemed like fate, his destiny.
Jimmy Neesham- A man who almost quit playing Cricket frustrated with his own failures in a sport thats very nature is failure - took 3 important wickets and smoked a six in the super over getting New Zealand oh so close.
Martin Guptil - A man who had the most horrid tournament but had still come good with a miracle in the previous match when his team needed it the most - couldnt repeat his actions again.
Jos Buttler - The man who was named the greatest batsman of this era by the greatest batsman of the previous era yet struggled to perform to his talents - finally did so and man did he perform when the pressure was on.
I could go on and on, not only about the players but the whole team itself- New Zealand, known as the nicest team - had the worst luck in the small clutch moments. It was simply poetic, real life poetry unravelling in real time.
To quote a commentator on air - "Speilberg couldnt have written a better script." But this wasnt a script, this was real life. This wasnt a hollywood movie dramatisized to appeal to their audience, this was real life. This was destiny, this was poetry, this was real life. And thats what makes sports so great, especially Cricket.
