Just Trust Me

The wind whispers in her ear.
Tears mingle with the pouring rain.
It feels like her chest is on fire.
The flames lick at her lungs.
It becomes impossible to breathe.
She falls to her knees, head in her hands.
Her glassy eyes are red and puffy.
She gasps for air, clawing at her chest.
All she can comprehend is pain.
Soon, all of her flesh feels set ablaze.
Air is greeting her lungs, but she can't feel.
The muddy grass is long forgotten.
Her body trembles uncontrollably.
She glances up at the crescent moon,
only it's obscured from her hazel eyes.
Darkness envelopes her like a blanket.
The frigid air kisses her exposed flesh.
She wraps her arms around herself;
she longs for a warm embrace.
The young girl is all alone;
or so she believes.
In reality, people surround her.
The problem is; they don't notice her.
No one attempts to eliminate the pain.
So, it gradually builds and builds,
horrid memories collecting and haunting.
Now, she's lost in a world of misery.
Suddenly, a hand reaches through the dark.
"Leave me alone," the girl sobs.
"No," the hand's owner responds.
"Why?" Is her answer, a whisper of the wind.
"Because," they sigh, "it's time to return to the sunshine."
"How is that even possible?"
"With time, patience, and a guide."
"Who will guide me?"
"I will. Just trust me."
