This theory is common among Disney Descendants fans. I am one myself. I just need to see the second movie. NO SPOILERS. I gave you a warning that there might be spoilers so don't do that to me.

Malificient has always been ashamed of Mal's existence. Because Mal's father came at her weakest time, and Malificient has been sour ever since.

Many have suggested that the three main villains that could be: Hades (I honestly think this is most likely her father), Captain Hook (which I don't believe because he's mentioned in the books), and this one demon I forgot the name of (seen him, also a very good candidate). Malificient says her father is human, but she probably just didn't know he wasn't human. Or was lying.

But I have a theory that many might scoff at.

Mal's dad might be someone that could be the most surprising of them all. I don't have a name, or a specific person, but this could shock many.

Mal's dad...... could be a good guy.

I know you might be going like "What? No way. Malificient would never." But think about it. Malificient is ashamed of Mal. If Mal's father was a good guy, than Malificient would have more reason to be embarrassed of her existence. Why would Malificient be embarrassed of having a child who had a villain father? Even if Malificient is the most powerful, why the shame? It's a good way to continue her reign. Even have the possibility of escaping the island with a child who could be powerful enough.

Another thing that makes me think this, in the first book, Mal helped a minion creature when he dropped his basket of apples. As I quote from the book as well as I can "Malificient's face was apple red and she knocked over the basket." When they got home Malificient ranted of how Mal was like her father, human and pathetic.

Thus leads into my rant.

MAL'S DAD ISN'T THE ONLY PARENT WE WANT TO KNOW ABOUT!!

Seriously. Can anyone tell me who's Eve's father is? Or Carlos'? Or even Jay's mother? Have I missed something or do we truly not know?

I hate it when they do this. Like, come on. Yeah Mal's dad is a mystery, but she's not the only one. I WANT ANSWERS!!
