A blank stare and no goodbyes

Everything goes cold under the heat of the Sun
And I see you there as the only one

How warm people's words may seem

As you leave my world cold and empty
Counting your steps and watching you wave your friends goodbye
I see the words you had given me had all been the same lie
I left my messily-penned mark on your shirt
But I wish I'd given you a piece of my heart first
I'm sorry for being unkind
And for how little I tried
But seeing you smile for me
Would make it harder to let you leave
So as the coward I am and will always be
I leave you not with memories to keep you happy
Just with my empty words of pathetic denial
And a poor scribble of unkind dismissal
However here I'll let myself tell you
Despite all I've claimed to be untrue
I can't silence the truth
Of how terribly I will miss you.
