A Big Little World
Fast cars raced against each other, whizzing on polished wheels, smooth on the rough tar of a school road. Little people living big lives, big dreams filling little minds, big goals driving little legs forward. It's all beautiful and terrible.
Oh, look! The stars were burning with life. Wait, but everybody knew that one day they'd all burn out... Such a wandering mind is dangerous for a little body that couldn't go far alone. She didn't want anyone's help, but she wasn't enough for herself.
Such little thoughts, but such great weight they had on those weak shoulders. Who knew what was to come and when it were to end? It was all so small! But her eyes were open wide enough to brighten their dim lights.
Light steps and deep grooves - she had a mark to make on that little world.
Sand slipped through her small fingers and she waited for the world to send itself to sleep. Oh, but the world never slept! Always alive, it was. The fast cars still whizzed past, and she wondered who sat surrounded by the black leather behind the tinted glass. Were they good or bad?
What a fickle thought! It was never either, for always the who was both good and bad. Small and big, happy and sad - weren't we all?
What a terrible sickness that went around those days. So very tragic. She hoped to never catch it. Who would want to pain their eyes and rip themselves apart for no reason? Such a terrible thing, feelings. So meaningless and silly, but so strong as they were pumped from our ugly hearts.
She sees, she sees! It was the royals. They were visiting the beach. What for, she wondered.
They weren't clothed! Oh, dear, how very tragic. Was it the sickness? Were they caught by the terrible monster nobody could see? The stars would heal them, she hoped. They always healed her, so they would heal them, too, right?
Her hands were covered in sand and she wriggled her fingers, the sudden action amusing her eyes. What a strange way they had of moving. She looked away and far-off she saw it was the royals again.
They were struggling in the waters! Should she save them? No, no, that wouldn't do any good. She was too precious and useless. What help could she give?
So, she watched as they struggled.
Why were they smiling? Was it the end of their sickness? Had it really eaten up even their very souls? Was this the path to Where Nobody Goes? She had always wondered what happened once the sickness devoured their minds.
Maybe she'd go and see. Go and see where and what this place was. She'd come back, of course. How far, she pondered, could her legs carry her? They said she was so small, but she was big! She could talk and see, she knew about the sickness - she was bigger than anyone else! She'd show them tomorrow when she came back! She'd tell them what she had seen and how she'd been big enough to go Where Nobody Goes.
Just a little further - oh, the waters were cold! It must have been the sickness. It was making her falter! No, she thought, she had to try harder... She must fight it... She was bigger than them...
She was doing it! She was so close, so very near!
Ah, yes. Right where they were. Just a little further. Oh, dear, her head was going under. It must be the norm. How she hated the norm. But she could never beat it - it was a monster nobody could beat. She hated it. It never could be changed!
However, the norm was your only hope for survival on earth, so she couldn't go back now... Oh, well, she might as well discover this wonderful world, Where Nobody Goes.
A/N: It's not supposed to make sense. It annoys me to write anything that makes sense. My intention was to make you feel it without telling you directly or teaching it to you - it's a message. Maybe several. Idek. - PBJ
