face tutorial
Alright. I promised jezza1234567 I'd make him a drawing tutorial so here we go. Gonna start off with a simple face.
This is gonna have to be kinda simplified due to the picture limit, but I'm sure it won't be an issue. I can make a part two if necessary.
Start with a circle and four lines: one in the centre, one on each side, and one through the centre, but horizontal. Something like this:
These are called Guide Lines. Next, sketch the hairline and how big you want the chin to be. I'm drawing someone non-binary, just so I can include all the features. For a girl, you'd want the jaw to be slightly rounded and softer, for a boy, you'd want it to be more straight if that makes sense. Anyways, here what I've got:
If your character has any unusual features, such as say..animal ears or horns, you're gonna wanna sketch those out now. As well as the basic shape of their hair, using the hair line as a guide. Put a little extra detail if theres anything weird, like Mohawks or emo fringes, just so you can distinguish it. You can also draw two lines for the neck if it makes it easier.
I'll do a proper hair tutorial another time. Now we're gonna elaborate on the neck, and draw the shoulders.
Now the scary part: the face. First, you're gonna go over the horizontal guidelines again, as well as adding another one: one that just touches the bottom of the circle you drew earlier, you can also go over that again, not super hard, if it got erased at any point. These will serve as guidelines for the eyes, ears and nose.
Now, usually this character wouldn't have human ears, but I'm gonna draw them on anyways just to show you. Draw them like like two, elongated Cs that come in a little at the bottom. Noses don't have to be super complicated, you could just draw a small line or a dot. It doesn't matter. Eyes are the hard part, so I'm gonna explain it in another photo. Here's the ears and nose:
Ok NOW eyes. I'm drawing this character using the "Shoujo" manga style. These eyes are large and overly feminine. I'll make another another tutorial going over all the types and how to draw them at some point, possibly after I'm done here, but for now let's focus on this.
Draw two circles or ovals where you want to place your eyes. The more your character looks like they're about to swallow your soul, the better.
Now you can start adding more detail and de-demonify your character. Start with eyelashes.
First, give a little shape to the eyes, something like this:
Now eyelashes.
Alright! Next is the pupils and irises. As well as whatever shines and stuff.
Draw two egg shapes in the middle of the eyes you have currently, then draw two egg shapes inside of those. Make sure you don't draw the top of the second eggs though (wow, I am amazing at this /s)
draw small circles wherever you want the shines to be and shade in the center eggs.
Now for the mouth! Honestly, mouths are simple. I just have mine a small smile:
Next, you can go over your drawing in fine liner, erase the pencil, and you're done.
Now, remember: it's not gonna be perfect your first try, it never is. No one is amazing immediately. It's just a fact of life.
Some tips though: draw the eyes at the same time, do one part of one, do the same part on the other, wash, rinse, repeat. It stops the "Other Eye Syndrome" from kicking in.
USE. REFERENCES. Really. It helps. I didn't here for their overall design, just cos they're an OC so I don't really need to, but I did for the eyes, because, I'm not great at eyes. Why else do you think my main oc only has one?
Don't be scared to erase stuff, it's fine, it's not gonna have a negative effect, if anything it'll make the drawing better.
I'm gonna be making an eye tutorial and a shading tutorial at some point soon, not now, my hyperfocus has drained, but yeah, stick around for that.
