Song: Poison Tree- Grouper
There was something comforting about drowning. Which didn't sound right to many people, including Izuku. Why did the thought of drowning comfort him? When Kacchan grabbed him by the collar of his school uniform and shoved him deep into the water. In the small park that he had sought refuge from Bakugou, was going to be the reason Izuku Midoryia died.
Simply put, Izuku had just wanted to avoid the explosive blond. Katsuki Bakugou had seemed a little more irritated this morning, shouting insults at the green haired boy as soon as he arrived at the school.
Plus, Izuku had wanted to find a nice place to study his notes, or read an old hero comic. Possibly the new All Might one his mother had saved up some money to buy for him.
So he walked to a park, it was a quiet one. Overgrown like it didn't have owners who cared, or were no longer able to work on it he supposed. The asphalt walkways were overgrown with grass and weeds. Cracked and worn, and unstable, so he chose to walk on the grass instead. Despite the lack of a groundskeeper he found this place to be quite comforting.
He walked closer as heard the sound of water rushing over rocks, he trotted over and stood beside the river. Glancing across the river, he saw a clearing surrounded by trees, with one massive tree sitting in the middle.
Ignoring it for now he looked down at the river, its rushing water unable to reflect the sky above head. Unable to reflect Izuku's freckled face. Unable to reflect the spikey blond hair that loomed over Izuku's shoulder.
Being grabbed by the arm and being turned around roughly made Izuku gasp in surprise. Turning around to see a grinning Bakugou, who just stared at Izuku fiercely.
"I see what you tried to do shitty nerd," The blond growled, grabbing Izuku by his collar and lifting him up a few inches off the ground. "Thought you could hide from me, huh?" Katsuki taunted before dropping Izuku down into the river.
Crouching about the fallen green haired boy, he grabbed Izuku's collar again. Causing the green haired boy to yelp in surprise. Izuku's hands went to grasp Katsuki's wrists in an attempt to stop his former childhood friend from hurting him any further.
"I'm in a terrible ass mood," Katsuki said, as his force overwhelmed Izuku's pathetic attempt to fight back. "So stop wriggling!" Katsuki shouted before shoving Izuku's head into the river.
Water rushed into Izuku's nose and mouth, as he did not have enough time to take a breath before being plunged into the icy water. He was just maybe an inch below the water. He attempted to lift his head up, he could almost taste the oxygen waiting outside of this watery barrier. But before he knew it, Katsuki's rough hands were pressed against his forehead. Forcing him to stay under. Izuku felt his vision going dark in the corner of his eyes.
He wanted to scream, he wanted to beg, he wanted to talk to Katsuki.
More than anything, he did not want to die.
His thoughts went to his mother eating alone at the dinner table, a picture of her son, who no longer breathed beside her.
Before he knew it, there was oxygen again.
But by then, he was cold, wet, and his lungs felt full of water. Izuku was thrown onto the ground next to the river. Where he clutched the grass and heaved. Before he knew it, water was coming out of his throat, and onto the ground. Katsuki beside him just chuckled.
"Weak ass idiot. Can't handle a little drowning cantcha' nerd?" Katsuki asked, grabbing the mop of wet green hair on Izuku's head. "Look at the little bitch, whatcha' gonna do? Cry to your mommy?" Katsuki taunted.
Izuku did not have the strength to reply.
Luckily, he didn't have to. Katsuki let go of his hair and stood up. Leaving the sopping wet Izuku to cry, to sob. Once Katsuki was gone, Izuku wiped away his tears and stood up. Staring at the river that almost just claimed his life. He smiled at it.
Even when his vision was going dark, he thought of death.
He wanted to die.
That thought both comforted, and scared him.
So he chose to ignore it, and instead focus on the beautiful tree just across the river. As he waded in the water, he stumbled over to the other side. The river, despite it being a little wider than a creek, was not deep.
Staring at the tree he sighed and stumbled over to the roots. He stared overhead at its massive branches. Its white leaves. It was such an odd plant. It seemed almost magical. Which Izuku prayed it was.
"Can you hear me?" He asked the tree, unsurprised when he got no response . "I feel like you can't, but that's okay.. People don't care about what I have to say anyway." Izuku mumbled sitting next to the tree. He stared at its whitish-gray roots
Its bark reminded him of a birch tree, the way its branches stretched out, reminded him of a big oak tree. And the way the leaves cascaded down, reminded him of a willow.
"What a pretty tree." He mumbled half to himself. As he grabbed his sketchbook, and began to draw the ethereal looking tree. Much too pretty for this world, much too pretty for Izuku's unworthy eyes to see.
Izuku placed his hands on the roots of the tree, and was surprised when the tree roots wrapped around his hand. It felt like the tree was holding his hands. Consoling him.
Did it know? Did it know about Izuku's wish to die?
I'm so sorry. The tree seemed to be saying. Its voice, soft and gentle. A whisper against Izuku's tired brain. Little one, would you like to be special? It asked.
"Do I?" Izuku responded. Knowing he was probably talking to himself. "Do I, pretty poison tree?" He asked the tree. When the roots tightened around his hand and then released. He knew it was up to him.
The tree seemed to sense his hesitance and suddenly a branch moved towards Izuku, offering its beautiful leaves to the boy. A flower seemed to have grown just for Izuku.
Just for me. Izuku thought as he grabbed the flower. Just for you. The tree agreed.
Something seemed to overcome Izuku as he grabbed the trees flowers.
Throwing poison seeds into the wind.
Izuku gently took the flower and smelled it. Feeling a wave of Sorrow, and Pain wash over him.
Make the poison tree grow in me begin.
"Why do you feel agonized?" Izuku asked the tree. The tree gave no response.
Let your branches fork my veins.
Izuku's breath felt slow, his lungs felt tight. His nerves tingled. He did not enjoy this feeling.
Let your honey tide in me.
Izuku clutched his chest as he fell forward. His note book he had been sketching in falling out of his hands as he wheezed. He felt so much agony in his body. He wailed to the poison tree, incoherent words, to such an ethereal being. But the silence that came as his reply made him feel an eerie sense of calm.
Little lovin', poison whisperin'
Forgive me my little one. The tree apologized solemnly. Izuku smiled in response. Those words, those words made him grin widely. Despite the feeling of agony in his lungs, his hands, his blood, his body. The tree's words made his insides feel like honey. Like he was a bug, caught in a spider's nest. Already filled with the spiders venom. His insides melted, his organs, goo. But oh god, it felt so good. It felt like he could just let go. Forget everything.
Oh beautiful poison tree.
Let your power grow in me.
Izuku felt dread flood him as he realized he was wrapped up warmly in the agony he felt overpowering his small body. Until that feeling of warmth sapped out of him quickly . He felt sorrow. He felt tears prick his eyes.
Let your sorrows flow in me
The tree did not apologize again. Instead it seemed to just watch as Izuku struggled to breathe.
