Waterhole
Its a wild, wild jungle out there,
Danger lurking behind every tree
And in the midst of all the warfare
There is me.
My heart still ripples sky blue
When the greens are hid under crimson grease.
Lone shroud unsullied and free,
Waterhole, last bastion of peace.
When the jungle blood has parched their throats
They come to quench with our waters sweet,
And I give my all, I give to each
Be it lion or rabbit meek.
My elephants! My herd of heroes!
Long you looked over this serenity
Under your watchful trunk and trumpets
On these banks, they dared not prey on the weak.
But now that you have fallen
Claws and teeth will come to spill,
And if they can't keep me for themselves
They'll drink dry all my fish.
I hear the roar of ravaging paws
I hear the bristle of stripes.
I fear not for myself
But for those who seek solace by me.
For it's in their nurture
Lies my noble duty
The soul of the forest is at threat
Rise again, I plead with thee.
