Never would have known

I huffed as I reached out, grabbing a small ledge in front of a window. I pulled myself up, eyes trained on the ledge above me. I peeked over the wall, onto the roof. I grabbed the top of the wall and stumbled over it to the roof.

Ron stood on the roof, waiting for me. "You could have taken the stairs." He said.

"Climbing's easier." I panted, bending down and putting my hands on my knees. Ron raised his eyebrows and looked me up and down. "Uh-huh." He said, disbelief in his voice. I laughed slightly, and smiled at him. "Maybe I could loose a few pounds." I said, standing up properly. "Then it would be."

Ron sighed. He looked out onto the small city which we lived in - Metrado. The sparkling streetlights were the closest thing we got to stars. The light pollution was too much for the tiny suns in the sky. Tall buildings grouped in the center, growing smaller as they became more distant to it. A river ran down the left side of the city, with occasional parks on the side and two dams in it. A smaller river looped around some crops beside the larger one, where boats could come through.

It was a beautiful city, with many great places fr the two to explore and lots of greenery. The greenest city in the world!

I smiled as I scanned the landscape of our beautiful home. The only thing missing was a good adventure for me and Ron. It's all he wants : a daring adventure with many obstacles for a daring duo like us to overcome. Defeat dragons and slay the mortals that pollute this earth. (The last bit is a joke, I don't think Ron and I are immortal yet).

I sighed as the sun finished setting in the distance, and headed to the stairs with Ron.

"I thought climbing was easier?" Said Ron, a smile on his face.

"Up maybe. Down no." I responded, as we began the long journey down.

We reached the bottom floor and snuck outside. We began to walk down the street, heading to the smaller buildings where we lived.

We reached my house, a large white one with a black roof and blue front door with my last name on it. It was surrounded by a black spiky fence, which two dogs were in. They barked at us furiously, most likely annoying the neighbors. I rushed up to the gate and reached my hand in, and two little black noses sniffed it. The two smallish dogs stopped barking and I waved to Ron, who waved back and began home.

I opened the gate and walked inside, closing it behind me. I continued up the brick pathway with both dogs at my heels. I went inside to see my older sister, Julie, sitting on the couch and eating ice cream. I sighed, rolling my eyes. I walked to the kitchen and grabbed some chocolate, before heading upstairs.

I flopped down on my bed and ate the chocolate, closing my eyes.

The crunch of a dry leaf on the forest floor. The cry of a startled bird, and the flap of wings.

Amber eyes followed the bath of the sparrow. Sunburnt hands stroked long black hair.

She stood in silence, angry at herself for her mistake. Her eyes glowed in the night, under the leaves of a small forest.

She sighed and gave up, walking slowly back the way she came.

She crouched down and dug up a small rabbit underneath a large pile of leaves. She stood again and began to walk again.

She reached the edge and continued, through a a meadow with rolling hills and tall grass billowing like the ocean.

Her eyes were directed straight ahaid, towards a small light.

She reached a small group of crude shelters crafted to hold one person each. In the center of the circle of shelters was a small fire, with a group of teenagers around her age sitting around it. Silence fell upon the circle as she arrived, all eyes on her.

Her eyes were now trained on the oldest of the teenagers, a boy with messy brown hair and brown eyes. He shared her sunburnt skin, and had the air of a leader.

She handed him the rabbit, and he examined it closely.

"It will do." He said, and the girl walker over to a nearby stream. She cleaned her hands in the water, watching her reflection in the stream.

She returned to the group, where a girl was cooking the rabbit, along with a squirrel and a few birds.

"Tomorrow, May, Jack, and Ron may expand their shelters. Alison and Julie, you need to work on your hunting skills." Said the boy with brown hair. "Tomorrow some people can help you, okay?" He said. The group nodded.

The girl with black hair nodded. She looked around the group.

A girl with golden hair and grey blue eyes was whispering to a boy with short messy black hair and blue eyes.

"Its getting worse." Said the girl.

"You should find someone." Responded the boy.

But before the girl could respond, the fire in the center grew larger. The figure of a man stood in the center, glaring at the girl. Then it expanded, swarming the camp and killing everyone inside it.

My eyes widened as I sat up. I has received visions like this before, and they had come true. Who were these people? I recognized the two whispering to each other as me and Ron. Are we going to die?
