I wake to the sound of stars singing.

Atleast, I think I do. Did I even fall asleep at all? Maybe I'm still dreaming.

It's peaceful up here. The moon shining in the sky, clouds drifting past me, and the ocean glistening below. I start humming along with the stars, when a figure suddenly appears. A skeleton. Odd. They usually kept to the ground.

I open my mouth to greet him, only to find that I can't seem to make any sound. Instead, he wraps his arms around me, taking me by surprise. It takes me a bit to cross my arms over his shoulders in return.

We stay like that, comfortable in each other's embrace, for...a second? An hour? I'm not quite sure.

I feel the sudden tug of gravity, and he's the only thing keeping me from falling into the raging waves below. Panic flares up in me like fire, and I try to communicate with my eyes for him to not drop me, but...

He disappears. Nothing but a cloud of fading dust.

And then, unforgiving cold. I can't move, can't speak. The ocean swallows me.

I'm floating down. I'm not breathing, but I'm not losing oxygen, either. I can't seem to move my limbs, or...anything, really. I try counting by the minutes.

I'm losing count.

35...36-

Suddenly, a flicker. White, blue, maybe pinkish? A piercing sound, somewhere between a scream and a roar, slices through the silence like a knife to butter.

Another flicker, this one snake-like in movement. Another monstrous scream.

One of the creatures swims up to me, and I'm unsure if I'm supposed to be terrified. It's beauty entrances me. Four bright yellow eyes, a head resembling that of a hammerhead-shark, and a translucent eel-like body.

I reach my hand out to the ghostly levithian-size creature, holding my breath. It drifts forward to meet my hand, and...

White-hot pain courses through me. I try to scream, but water floods my mouth, my lungs. The creature yanks back, ripping my arm clean off. It lunges again, jaws open wide to swallow me whole.

And...

I'm floating back among the stars.
