Alista's Army
Dear my beautiful Ali,
I have been repositioned in southern Colorado. Your mother, Bennie, Carol, Susan, and you are coming to colorado soon I hope. You won't be able to meet me at the army area, but I will have a free time to go and meet you at your cottage. Even more exciting news, we could be moving to colorado! I've been thinking about it so I could see you more often. My officer said I'd be finally in a permanent zone. So I could be called into duty quickly without a long trip, when my job is finished. I have replaced the old general, and now am in the front line in battle. [I also make orders]
Love,
Father
I gripped the letter to me tightly. I quickly scratched a reply to father's letter.
Dear Father,
I am very excited to see you again! Colorado shall be an exciting experience for all of us. Why is Alice and Dre not coming with us? I wish you health, luck, and safety as the general. While we write of good news, I must tell you of Bennie's first tooth coming in!
Love,
Your loyal daughter Alista
I folded the paper and placed it in an envelope. Bennie and Susan rushed into my room, and plopped on my bed. "Hello Bennie. Hello Susan. Do you bear anything new?" I asked and hoisted Susan onto my lap. "Ali, mommy said we could have rolls and jam for breakfast!" Susan cried. "My..that is special." I smiled. Bennie, who is three, crawled onto my lap also and showed me his tooth. "Very nice." I set the children on the floor, and walked to my mirror. Bennie stared at me, and rushed out. Susan, who is seven, helped me find the perfect dress for this morning. Susan laid a white dress with purple hemming, and short cut sleeves. I nodded her out, and twirled out my curlers. My long blond hair bounced over my shoulder. I combed it, and tossed it behind me. I braided a strand in the middle, and clipped a purple bow to it. I applied purple eyeshadow and pink lipstick. I zipped up my dress, and walked down the hall. Dre, Susan, Bennie, Carol, and Alice sat in wooden chairs at the dining table. Dre, the oldest of nineteen, waved to me. "Hello. Good morning, Mother." I set a plate of biscuits beside Alice, age 15. "Thank you. Now, that everyone's here, we must discuss...an issue." Mother set a jar of jelly and jam by Dre. "We are moving to Colorado." Dre stood, and his chair screeched. "But, Ali is starting seventh grade next year. Bennie, young children school." Carol, age 10, stood too. "I'll be doing 5th grade. And Susan will be in first!" I, 12, sat down. "I'll be fine. Carol, will be fine. She's very good with adapting. Susan, is fine. Bennie, doesn't know anyone yet, so he'll be fine." I calmly spoke, trying to ease my angered siblings. Dre glared at me. "Exactly. He doesn't know anywhere else." I stop. I could not argue anymore. "Fine..it's up to Mother now." Mother stood, staring at the crops. "My...we are in for a horrible storm. The corn stalks are blowing east." I tossed on my apron. "Mother, I must collect our food from father at the bakery." I rush off to the bakerman
