The Hopeful Genie

The forest was dark. Hope could barely see a thing in front of her and she was afraid of what she might see or run into. Her flashlight had died out a little bit ago after she had gotten lost and she didn't have extra batteries. She dove into the underbrush, thorns scratching her ankle. She felt something warm run down into her shoe, but she didn't notice. She took off her backpack and rummaged through it. She found two batteries, but they were crusted and out of power. Behind her there was a small gust of wind creeping on the back of her neck, sending ice shivers down her spine. This would be a good time to suddenly develop night vision. A tree branch came from nowhere and whacked her head, causing her to sigh. She had no such luck.

"Night vision? You could have that, if you wanted. All you need to do is rub my lamp and the wish is yours." She gasped. Who had said that? What lamp?

"Hello?"

"Yeah. Hi. Please just find my lamp."

"What lamp? Who am I even talking to and how did you know that I wanted night vision?"

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, enough with the questions, alright? I'll explain everything just find my lamp please,"

"Well if I had a flashlight that actually worked, then maybe I could find it," Hope snapped.

The voice sighed. "Fine. Guess, you won't get the three wishes a genie can grant..."

Hope hesitated before speaking cautiously. "You are a genie?"

"Indeed."

"Then yes, I will find your lamp."

The End!
