Techie, The Robot Human
"Danelle!" a teacher shouted. A student's head popped up.
"What?!" the student exclaims, surprised.
"You've been asked to go down to the office", the teacher says.
"Huh? Why?" Danelle asks.
"They didn't say. They just want you down at the office", the teacher says. "And they said to take your stuff."
Danelle was extremely confused. What could have warranted the need for her to go down to the office?
She packed up her stuff and pulled her backpack onto her shoulders before leaving the classroom. She heads down the stairs to the office to see two police officers standing there. She was extremely confused now. What did the police want? Danelle knew her dad worked with the police but they never tried to talk to her until now.
"Danelle Flaringer?" one of the police officers asked.
"That's me", she says cautiously.
"I'm Officer Sands", the police officer says. "This is my partner, Officer Pappy. We have come to inform you that your father, Officer Danny Flaringer, was in a car crash with your mother, and two younger siblings."
Danelle felt her world ending. Her family was all she had. She had no friends, and her extended family was nowhere near where she lived. She wasn't even sure if she had any extended family.
"We'll need you to come with us", Officer Pappy says. Danelle stares at him, and slowly walks toward him. The officers lead her to their car, and she climbs in back. The officers tried to talk to her, but she was in complete and utter shock and couldn't make any noise.
They pulled up to a stoplight and it was red but soon turned green. They started to drive forward but a car sped out of nowhere, hitting them hard. The police officers vehicle spun in a circle before crashing into a light pole. Danelle shrieked as she was shaken around.
As soon as the car stopped spinning, she looked at the police officers and checked their pulses, only to find that both of them had been killed on impact. She quickly attempted to leave the vehicle but both of the back doors had been dented shut. She looked around wildly, trying to find some way to get out. She managed to kick on of the doors open and she immediately went to the other person's vehicle. It was a black Dodge Charger, and it had seemingly no dent in it. Danelle was extremely confused. It should have a dent in it.
She shrugged and knocked on the window of the car. The door made a motion to open, so Danelle stepped out of the way. A handsome young man stepped out. He was wearing mostly black, and he had black hair. His eyes, however, are what caught Danelle's attention. They were purple with a hint of red in one and blue in the other. It was intriguing and that was all she could focus on until he put on his sunglasses.
"I'm so sorry, miss?" he spoke. Danelle was surprised at how smooth his voice was and it took her quite a bit to realize that he was asking for her name.
"Oh! Sorry! My name is Danelle Flaringer. And you are...?" Danelle then asked for his name, to be polite.
"My name is Sunter. Wayne Sunter", he says.
"It's nice to meet you, Mr. Sunter", Danelle says.
"The same to you, Miss Flaringer", Wayne Sunter says.
"Oh, just call me Danelle", Danelle replies.
"Only if you call me Wayne", Wayne counters.
"Alright", Danelle consents. Then she realizes. "Oh, scrap! You just hit a car with two police officers, both of which are dead!"
"Those weren't police officers", Wayne says, as he stares over Danelle's head at the police car.
"Huh?" Danelle was severely confused.
"They aren't actual police officers. They're not even human. They're robots", Wayne says. "They are what your father was experimenting on in his free time. And some of them didn't turn out great. They turned evil. There are some, however, that turned out good."
"What do you mean?"
"Your father was an inventor. He created many inventions. Specifically robots, with an almost infinitesimal knowledge. There are some, that he grew very attached to, and he decided to call them his wife and his children. He wiped their memory of ever being an experiment and gave them false memories of growing up, of falling in love, and changed them to look different ages. Your mother and sisters are being repaired right now. Your father, however, is actually dead. Now, I'll need you to come with me and help me clean up this mess."
"Wait! You mean to tell me that I am a robot? I'm not actually made of human flesh and bone?"
"Tell me, in your memory, do somethings not seem to add up?" Wayne asks.
Danelle pauses. There were a few things. Like the one time that she clearly remember going to Disneyland when she was 5 and her mother said that they had never been to Disneyland. Danelle sighed.
"Yeah, there are a few things", she whispered.
"Come with me. I can give you the memories you lost back", Wayne says.
"What if I don't want them back? Are they bad memories? Are they painful? How am I supposed to know? How do you even know that I am like you?!"
Wayne sighs. Danelle looks downs and frowns. "I'll go with you. But do not expect me to trust you until I have proof that I am what you say I am."
Wayne chuckles softly. "Come on."
Danelle climbed into the car with Wayne, and Wayne starts driving away. He touches his ear and starts speaking. "Callie, Hunter, go to where the two police officers wrecked and clear them out. I'll be there to fix them up later."
"Where are we going?" Danelle asked quietly.
"To your house. Then we'll go to your father's secret workshop just outside of town."
"Okay. Why do we need to stop at my house?"
"To make sure that your father didn't leave anything that would give away our secret. And to get your stuff. You'll need it at the workshop."
"Okay."
After several minutes of driving, they turned onto a familiar street. Danelle hummed softly as they pulled into the driveway of the house. Danelle pulled the key from her pocket and climbed out of the car, going to the front door. She placed the key into the lock but paused, not sure if she wanted to enter the memory filled place.
She sighed and opened the door, entering into the living room. She saw family pictures hanging up on the wall and saw the mess that her two younger siblings had left earlier. She chuckled softly at the sight, before turning to Wayne.
"Go ahead and look around. I'll be up in my room, packing what I'll need." Danelle turns to leave but pauses after a moment. "What will I need?"
"Clothes. And anything else you want to bring", Wayne mutters as he walks around, looking for anything that might relate to the robots that were created.
"Okay", Danelle says before heading to the back of the house to her room. She grabbed a couple suitcases from the hall closet on her way there and started packing her clothes, going through them as she went. Soon, there was a pile of clothes that were either too small for her, or clothes she didn't quite like anymore. Soon, she had both suitcases filled with clothes.
She grabbed her backpack for school and placed it with her suitcases, knowing that if she just disappeared from school, both students and teachers would be suspicious.
She grabbed another backpack and started filling it with pictures of her family, and of her favorite items in her room. She sighed once the backpack had everything she wanted in it, closing the backpack. She looked around and saw many things still in her room. She didn't particularly care for any of it so she decided she was going to put on a yard sale later.
She exited her room, and found Wayne staring at something in her parents bedroom. He was currently holding it in his hands
"What are you looking at?" Danelle asks quietly.
"It's... a picture... of you...." Wayne says cautiously.
"Okay. There's lots of pictures of me here", Danelle says, slightly confused about what was so special about this picture.
"This one is different. This is the one from before he turned you into his daughter."
"What?" Danelle was shocked and went to go look at the picture he was talking about. He handed it to her and Danelle saw a beautiful red and orange robot, smiling as she laughed and talked with a purple and green robot. The purple and green robot, she was smiling as well. They seemed close.
"Which one is me?" Danelle asked although she already had a pretty good suspicion. She suspected that she was the red and orange one and her suspicions were correct. But who was the purple and green one?
"She's called Callie. You guys were really close before... everything. You have no memory of her, I presume."
"I... I have no clue who she is. Is there anyone else I should know that I can't remember?"
"Yeah, there's one named Hunter. He and Callie became really close after you left. That's why I sent them out together earlier. Speaking of which, we should be getting to the workshop. I've got some robots I need to help out", Wayne says. Danelle nods and they go and grab her stuff, each of them with a suitcase and a backpack and place it in the back of the Dodge Charger.
As they drove off, Danelle had a sudden thought, which she voiced aloud. "Did I have a name I went by before... you know..."
"You did. You were called Techie. It wasn't very creative but you loved that name, and so did everyone else", Wayne says, as well as muttering something under his breath.
Danelle hums thoughtfully before smiling. "Well, I can't wait to meet them! And I can't wait to get my memories back. That would be great!"
Wayne smiles. "I'm sure everyone will be happy that you will be able to remember them soon."
Danelle only smiled as they pulled into what looked like an old abandoned barn, but inside, there was a lot of machinery as well as several robots walking around. She frowns as she tries to take it all in.
"Come over here, Danelle", Wayne says as he leads her over to a machine. She looks at it fearfully and Wayne saw that. "Don't worry too much about it. It's just how we're going to give back your memories." He placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
Danelle smiles before walking to the machine. All she felt was a tiny, electrical zap to her head before memories zipped through her mind. She had ended up falling to the ground during this process as it had made her very dizzy.
Soon, however, Danelle stood up, looked around, and smiled as she recognizes many faces. Specifically two. She grins as she sees her two best friends walk into the building.
Her human form disappearing, the red and orange robot sped past the other robots and latched onto her best friends, giving them a great big bear hug.
Surprised, her friends stumbled back but their robotic faces lit up as they saw Techie.
"TECHIE!!!" Carrie cried out.
"Hey, Carrie! Hey, Hunter!" Techie, formerly Danelle grins happily.
"Techie? When did you get back?" Hunter asks, still slightly surprised to see the best friend he hadn't seen in years.
"Just a minute ago, literally. I got here as Danelle a few minutes ago, with no memory of you guys, but then there was memory-influx machine that gave me my memories back. And boy, did I get an influx of memories."
Carrie and Hunter grinned, happy that the third member of their trio of trouble had come home.
