The question of mobile phones use in schools is a highly contentious and important topic. Indeed it could be considered one of the significant educational debates of our time.

I disagree with the statement because phones are a great way to keep students occupied during free time, a efficient way to contact home during the day and a important tool both socially and educationally.

Mobile phone are much more then just phones, they provide students with easily accessible dictionaries, maps, books, musical instruments and more. Wouldn't imposing this ban greatly affect resources available to pupils?

Banning phones will not stop them being used. On the contrary it most likely would become more appealing to use them secretly. History has shown us that prohibition has almost always been unsuccessful.

There is a public perception that mobile phones are simply a distraction from learning. However a 2011 US survey found that 75% of those surveyed believed that using mobile phones has improved their ability to learn and retain information.

Cyber bullying is a big problem in schools but banning mobile phones isn't going to make the issue disappear. We need to educate students about why cyber bullying is wrong and how to use them responsibly.

Mobile phones also offer a number of safety benefits. Allowing parents and carers the peace of mind of where their children are and are able to contact them. This advantage may also lead to other positive outcomes such as a student being allowed to walk to and from school, thus improving individual health and is environmentally sustainable.

In conclusion we need to acknowledge the proven benefits of students having mobile phones at school both socially and educationally and view them as a useful tool

Also to teach students to use their phones responsibly to reduce cyber bullying and prepare them for the future.

Mobile phones are constantly evolving and are not going away any time soon. We need to adapt and use phones to our advantage rather then denying students a important device that benefits their education

Technology has changed the world and to deny future generations these benefits are at best short sighted and at worst idiotic. The primary purpose of schools is to educate and prepare students for the world around them. To withhold such a crucial and ubiquitous tool from use is damaging to our future. Students should be given the plethora of educational benefits brought by mobile phones. Whilst, simultaneously being taught to use them in a responsible and reproductive fashion.  A skill that will be invaluable in their future lives and school is uniquely positioned to do this.
