Things You Didn't Know
As most of my older followers know, the first book in the Dawn series is coming to a close. To my more recent followers, read the book... you must as well stop here if you haven't read it yet. Seriously. This is a SPOILER ALERT.
Well, now that that's out of the way, this chapter is all about what you DIDN'T know about Dawn: Power of Four. This contains some things that were originally cut out from my original ideas, or just plain random trivia from the story.
- In my original storyline, the River wolves were to have dragon wings like the Shadow wolves, but I thought that it wouldn't be unique and add on to their somewhat semi-aquatic feel. Hence the dorsal fin like wings.
- The River Pack camp was originally going to be underwater, like wolffish mermaids! Someone who wasn't a member of the River Pack would have to wear a starfish on their nose in order to breathe underwater. Now, if you remember at the very very beginning of the story, Barracuda wore an indigo starfish when he attended the Head Elder meeting. This rule would've applied to the River wolves when they went above water. I took both of these parts out because I didn't want the story to seem too fictional. The starfish that Barry wears is merely a fashion statement, like how Blossom wears a flower in her ear.
- Twilight and the rest of the Shadow wolves would've been able to shapeshift into a shadow and a shark. In a deleted scene, Dawn, who would've been underwater at the time, would've remembered that she was a Quadruplet and when she swam up to the surface in a state of panic, her starfish would've fallen off. Twilight, who appears as a shark, grabs her and pulls her up to the surface. Again, this was scratched from because of its fictionality levels.
- The Hawk wolves had a different, simpler wing design. I couldn't draw wings very well at the time when I was first creating the characters. (You can see the design in the first comic in which I used the characters.)
- Also in the comic above, Dawn mentions that Blossom had "howling rehearsals," an unused character called Leo features, and Evan and his friends are seen playing a game of Rock (an intense version of Keep-Away.) I considered using this as an alternate beginning.
- Instead, I used the hunting scene at the beginning that we all know and love. The hunting scene was originally longer and more detailed, but I didn't want the story to seem long.
- Kale, who isn't seen until the end of the book, was originally going to be a younger wolf (about Evan and Dawn's age). He was originally going to be Evan's best friend, that "perfectly brave" guy, and... a ladies' man.
- Star and Twilight's unofficial relationship petname is Starlight.
- The unofficial scientific name for the winged wolves is 'Canis Lupis Alatum'.
- At the very beginning of the story, Moonbite tells Monarch that the Flutter Quad is the youngest. This is the order of the Quads from the oldest to youngest: Dawn, Twilight, Riptide, and Summer.
- The next book's unofficial/work-in-progress title is "Dawn: Love and War".
Hope you enjoyed these fun facts! If I think of any more facts, I'll let you guys know ASAP!
