Story Time #2
Story time again! This is my attempt to be kind of Fahrenheit 451-ish with something that happened to me. So, yeah.
The night was cold, but not overbearingly. For an Ohio early October, this is normal. Standing outside the school, waiting, that's what she's doing. Her step-dad's truck pulls up. "Bye, Mrs. Hughes," she says as she gets in. As soon as she shuts the door, he pounces. "She told me it ended at 8. It's only-" he looks at the dashboard clock, "8:05 now. And it takes more than five minutes to get here."
The silence tries to creep in, but he's not done. "If they keep doing this, you're not doing this anymore. They said it ended at eight." The tears sting behind her eyelids, but she doesn't dare let them fall. She knows it won't help her situation, even though she didn't do anything wrong. She's far too used to this kind of thing, and that's not good. The silence creeps in again, only now it succeeds in taking over. There's so much she wishes she could say, but she can't. The only reason she can't is that she feels like she'll get yelled at, like any time she tries to tell him something.
The fear overrides her mind, driving her to those all too familiar thoughts. You're a failure. You should just go away. I bet he won't even care. He'd probably be happy to have you gone. They take her over, and paralyze her until they get inside. She runs up to her room as soon as he unlocks the door. She collapses onto her bed and starts silently crying. He doesn't notice, or, if he did, he doesn't try to help her. She wishes he would, for once. It seems like her gym teacher cares more about her mental well-being than he does.
One tear, friends. Two tears, him. Three tears, the thoughts. One, friends, two, him, three, thoughts. One, two, three. Friends, him, thoughts. The vicious cycle that eventually lulls her into a sleep, one that she wishes she wouldn't awake from.
So...what do you think? Should this be a story on its own? I want hear people's opinions. Thanks! - Time Lord Victorious
