Life is just a Dream

I met you under a tree,
Free as a bee,
And you told me life is just a dream.

We were just kids,
Time would just pass by,
We would sleep with a lullaby.

I had my toys,
But you had them too.
Mine were pink and yours were blue.
We would play,
Every day,
All of our worries, whisked away.

Soon we grew, and our toys got old.
I got more gentle, you got more bold.
We went to school, hand in hand,
You played, and I sang.

I was hurt, but you were there,
You smiled without a care.
You were kind and they were mean,
You told me life is just a dream.

So we learned more each day,
My childhood taken away.
But I didn't care, you were here,
Always kind, always near.

With time, flying like a dove,
We learned to care, learned to love.
You brought me roses, I brought kisses.
You brought me a jewel that glistens.
But our love was more than gifts,
Our love was something that never shifts.

I knew what you wanted,
I wanted it too.
And soon, our dreams came true.
I watched the ring on my finger gleam,
Oh, this life is a wonderful dream.

Years passed yet again,
And I didn't know where to begin.
I love our baby boy, and I love you more,
I love our home, behind that door.

As he grew, so did we.
Our life was happy and free.
He would laugh, and we would laugh with him,
We would tell him stories as the lights went dim.

You told me you'd never leave, but I should have known that's a lie.
As I let out a broken sigh.
I look into your lifeless eyes with a gleam,
That still believes life is just a dream.
