Langst

Hey guys I took a few langst prompts from tumblr and here we are I wrote this at like midnight and I'm tired.

Allura marched quickly to the training dock, looking through the observation window at Lance. He rolled across the floor, shooting at the training bot until it fell through the floor and another level of the simulation began.

With a shake of her head the princess continued through the Atlas, discovering Shiro in the command room, talking quietly with Coran. She nodded at the two of them. "Can you two stay here? I want to bring the Paladins down and have a conversation."

The two nodded, and she headed out to find the three other Paladins. First she encountered Pidge in the hallways, nose buried in a book.

"Oh! Sorry Allura," Pidge said quickly.

Allura smiles softly. "Hey, can you meet in the control room?"

Pidge nodded. "Yup, see you there."

Next Allura headed to the kitchen, finding Hunk bent over at the oven. He smiled at her. "Cookie, princess?"

She shook her head. "No thank you Hunk. Please meet me in the control room."

Hunk shrugged and left with an "ok".

Outside the kitchen she ran into Keith. "Hi Allura," he said quietly.

"Keith, follow me, we're having a meeting."

"Now that you're all here I'd like to discuss something of importance," Allura said to the command room, filled with the Paladins, Alteans, and Shiro.

"Where's Lance?" Shiro asked, looking around at the group.

Allura took a shaky breath. "That's what I wanted to talk about. I don't know if you've all noticed but Lance hasn't been... acting as himself."

Hunk nodded. "He hasn't come into my room to tell me a joke or something in weeks, he loved doing that, and I liked talking with him about dumb facts he presented."

"Agreed," Keith said, "he's been training a lot more than usual."

"And overall finding excuses to avoid us," Pidge added.

The blue paladin twisted her face into one of concern. "He hasn't said anything remotely flirtatious to me either."

Shiro stood. "Something is obviously up with Lance. We all can see it. He does as he's told, doesn't argue, doesn't crack jokes, and doesn't flirt. We've all got to try and figure out what's wrong."

"Who's trying first? To get to him?" Shiro asked, looking around at the room.

Hunk stood. "I'll do it. We've been best friends for years, I'm sure I can do something."

The group watched as Hunk made his way out the door, then turned back to each other with concerned expressions.

Hunk made his way to the training deck, entering and calling out to Lance. The red paladin stopped in his tracks, looking at Hunk. "End simulation," he mumbled. "Does somebody need me?"

"Actually Lance, I want to do something for you. Y'know like how you used to make me do your nighttime routine back at the Garrison, for bonding and self care?"

Lance raised an eyebrow. "Yeah? What about it?"

Hunk smiled. "I want to do the same for you! We can make some comfort food, chill, talk, whatever you want."

"Sorry Hunk," Lance said, raising his beyard again. "If it's up to me I'm going to keep training."

"Oh... alright... have fun buddy," Hunk said, leaving the deck and his friend.

One by one the Paladins tried to speak to him, but got dismissed in similar manners, until Keith went to the deck.

"Lance, put the beyard down," Keith growled. Lance paused, then retracted his beyard and set it down with a quiet "yes sir."

"Come here," Keith commanded again. Lance obeyed, moving towards the black paladin until there was only a few feet between them. "Lance what's wrong?"

"Nothing wrong," Lance claimed. Keith raised an eyebrow. "I'm the perfect team member now! I don't annoy anyone with dumb jokes and flirting. I have been training nonstop to be like you. I do whatever I need to do to belong here. I couldn't be better." Keith stared into Lance's eyes, noting how they were beginning to water. The Cuban boy's voice began to crack as he continued. "All I wanted was to fit in with you guys, and be liked, not be considered a nuisance! If flirting and jokes get me eyerolls and sighs then I'll just train and train until I'm even better than you do I'll be valued."

"Lance, as much as it feels weird to say this you are really funny. Sometimes it's bad timing but without you we'd have no good points or things that make us feel better from everything that's going on. Just because your flirting doesn't work on us doesn't mean it's not good! We do value you, and I don't know why you'd believe otherwise!" Keith said, placing a hand on his shoulder.

Lance pushes him off. "Because when have people cared about Lance? When I was out cold after everything that happened with Sendak you were all too busy looking at clocks to notice I'd come out of the pod. When I died and came back to life it was dismissed without even a second discussion! All that ever happens is that I get yelled at for not being good enough, so I will be good enough even if nobody cares enough to notice."

Keith looked shocked, chewing on his lip as Lance began to cry. "Lance..."

The red paladin shook his head. "Give it up Keith. I don't want to be Loverboy Lance or The Tailor anymore."

"Lance!" Keith yelled. "Stop being so idiotic!"

Lance froze, staring at him with a frighteningly calm face. "That's what I've been trying to do. Is it still not good enough?"

"That's not what I meant..." Keith said quickly, trying to reach out to Lance again.

Lance shook his head, picking up his previously discarded beyard. He walked to Keith, setting it in his hand. "You know what. I'm going home. Get yourself a new red paladin who isn't so dumb."

The black paladin stood frozen in the doorway of the training dock, watching Lance's retreating back. He looked down at the beyard in his hand, then threw it against the wall with a pained yell.
