Babysitting
"Psst.
psssst.
pssssssssst! cASey!"
Casey turned to her little brother. She was babysitting tonight like just every Friday while her parents went on a date. She didn't mind. Sure, these days could be pretty stressful at some points, but she didn't have any friends so she had no reason to be out of the house.
She had put Aaron to bed over an hour ago. The only reason she was still awake was because of the wonderful combination that was insomnia and paranoia.
Aaron was standing next to the couch in his pajamas and holding the small teddy she had got him for his birthday.
Casey held back a groan. She knew what was happening.
She knew because it happened
Every.
Single.
Friday.
Nevertheless, she turned to him a forced a smile. "Yeah?"
Aaron tugged his shirt down and did that thing little kids do when they rock back and forth. Casey had to admit, he was most adorable 4 year old in the world and she would fight anyone ho said otherwise.
"uhhhhhhhhh... I think there's a monster under my bed." he said in a hushed whisper.
Casey had to bite her cheek to keep from snapping at him. She didn't care if he made her want to squish his cheeks, this was the part of the night she hated most.
She nodded her head like she was convincing herself to not kill a child. (me: has flashbacks to PewDiePie's minecraft series)
"Okay, let's see what it is" Casey said while she stood up, grabbing her brother's hand.
They walked down the hall into Aaron's bedroom.
Casey flicked the lights on and walked to the bed. Aaron stayed behind her for good measure.
Laying on the ground, casy turned her phone's flashlight on and pulled up the sheets.
"AHHHHHHHH MY EYES!!!!!!! I'VE BEEN BLINDED BY THE LIGHT!!!!!!!!" a voice screamed from under the bed.
This outburst caused Aaron to yelp and tears to start steaming down his face.
"Shut up." Casey told the figure. "I guess you were right Aaron. There is a monster under the bed."
"Hey!"
Aaron giggled a little bit at that. "No, it was Petey! He scared me again!"
Peter, her 12 year old brother, thought scaring his little brother was a wonderful idea. Funny, he only seemed to like this idea every Friday night. Huh.
"Yep. He probably woke the twins, too."
A tiny cry from the neighboring room confirmed Casey's theory. Due to Peter's yelling, the 9 month baby girls in the other room ,who had taken so long to get to sleep, mind you, were now awake and crying. Now Casey would get her revenge.
Peter's eye widened. "I didn't meant to! I swear!"
"Hey! Don't swear!" Aaron chided "Mommy says that's bad."
"Well, better go get their bottles Pete. And you better hurry. Unless you want to change their diapers too."
Casey could say for fact, that she had never seen the boy move faster.
"C'mon. Let's get you back to sleep yeah? It's way past your bedtime." she said, turning her attention back to Aaron.
"Okay." He replied with a tiny yawn.
Casey tucked him in and when she was sure he was asleep, she quietly left the room, turning the light off as she went.
In the twins room, she found a passed out Peter on a rocking chair with a sleeping Loni in his arms.
She walked over to the crib to find a cooing Maia laying there.
"Did he forget about you?" she asked the tiny human as she picked her up.
Sitting down on a bean bag, she picked up the prepared bottle Peter had left on the shelf. She rocked Maia gently as she fed her. Humming a tune to both herself and her sister, Casey smiled.
Yeah, Fridays were babysitting days, but she loved them and wouldn't trade them for the world.
