I'm sorry
The world was dead silent. Then, soft footsteps crunching on turf echoed through the thick foggy air. A man, not older than 21, stepped from the mist, his appearance shocking. His brown hair was unkept and matted down, his golden eyes glowed ever so faintly with remorse and despair. His grey shirt and jeans were bloodied and tattered, followed by a few gashes on his skin, that was covered in semi dried blood.
He looked around at what used to be a grassy land, and sighed deeply. His entire body was covered in a unusual golden sheen of light, distorting his figure every so once in a while. Golden eyes darting side to side, he took in the miserable sight of the earth and what mankind had become. The ground was crimson and cracked, and bodies were littered carelessly around, accompanied by the putrid stink of decaying flesh.
Wisps of grey and black hovered over the red soil, their outlines faint and foggy, almost impossible for them to resemble humans. Their mouths were gaped open in a silent scream, eyes wide and cold, as black as the void. They wandered around aimlessly,no purpose in their existence.
They were once humans.
The man inhaled a shaky breath, tears of grief glazing his eyes as he slowly made his way up a deserted building. The building was stone, and had splatters of blood and other mysterious substances painting the walls. It looked like a monster had ripped it clean half, leaving a gaping hole in the middle. The man inched his way up the rusting metal stairs, his golden sheen catching the purple moon's reflection occasionally.
He made it to the roof, and sat on the charred stone ledge, swinging his blood caked legs over.
He gazed up at the sky, his eyes reflecting his shattered, broken soul. The sky seemed to gaze back at him, and repent him for the mistakes he did. The moon that was eternally hanging in the sky seemed to reject him contemptuously, loneliness tugging at his heart. He opened his cracked lips, and said out loud, the first words he said in a month, sad and morose.
"I failed you."
He inhaled shakily, his frail fingers trembling uncontrollably, threatening to throw him over the edge.
"I failed the mission you assigned me to. Therefore dooming all of mankind. "
Another wobbly breath.
"I'm sorry."
He closed his mouth, putting his hand over it as he cried his despair and sorrow out in the form of tears. He continued crying, until he ran out.
He continued looking up at the sky, his gaze woeful and melancholy.
"I'm sorry."
With those words, his magical sheen of light slowly dripped away, like water draining from a tap. All the wisps suddenly tilted their heads, their eyes suddenly afire with unsatisfiable hunger and rage. Their mouths opened,of possible, even wider and they started screeching loudly, a terrible noise. White teeth appeared, as bright and sharp as knives.
Sky took a deep breath, his mouth set in a hard line. He ran a hand through his matted hair, savouring his last moments and it's simple pleasures. Then, in a swift motion, he pushed himself off the ledge, to his impending doom.
Instead of the impact of hitting the ground killing him, the wisps did. They wrapped their shadowed bodies around his body as he fell, his glowing eyes closed, and brought him gently down to the dirt. He still did not open his eyes,or move a single muscle. The wisps screeched again in unison, and started tearing him apart. They clawed chunks of flesh from his arms, tearing wobbly blocks of it away, showing white bone. They slowly dropped it in their gaping maw, savouring the drip of blood as it dribbled down to the soil. They tore at his face, his eyes, and crimson stained his entire body.
Yet, he did not cry out.
He only smiled faintly as he took his last breath, and opened his glowing eyes to gaze at the sky for the last time.
I was casually lying in bed when this happened.
I'm weird:3
