Why Didn't You Save Me? *BLOOD WARNING*

Hey again everyone! Blizzard coming back at y'all!

Just a warning that this story contains excessive blood/gore in the scenes. For those who may be affected by this, it's best that you don't read this. Read some of my other stories instead, which do not contain severe violence like this. (Like my newer story Fate of the Forest.)

Otherwise, read at your own risk.

P.S. Consider the bold text within the story as text in a scary font. Fonts don't work on Wattpad at this point in time, if they do decide to add different fonts. I typed the bold text in the story in a different font, and they don't turn up as it was in here.

Backstory of oneshot: Ever since Zane died fighting robots in a burning warehouse, Cole has been blaming himself for his best friend's death. One night he goes to sleep and starts having nightmares.

Inspired by a new scary online game. (Your Turn To Die)

   "Cole?"

The Earth Elemental jumped, then turned around to see a familiar white pelt and pale blue eyes.

"Oh, hey Zane. What do you need?" Cole greeted, letting his fur lie flat.

Zane shuffled his paws on the ground a little. "I... I wish to show you something." He turned, waving his tail at Cole. "Follow me."

Cole shrugged off the remnants of the slight scare, then proceeded to follow Zane. After a little while he caught up to his cool-headed friend, the two walking side by side.

Earth and Ice padded straight ahead into a forest of dark spruce trees. Little mushrooms grew under the spruce trees, their little caps emitting a soft blue glow. Brambles and thistles lined the dark bushes and the small path Cole and Zane were walking on. Little fireflies gave off an eerie fiery glow as they trod deeper into the woods.

The sun seemed to disappear behind the massive, opaque leaves overhead. Little skittering noises sounded below, and Cole looked down to see little vibrant lizards scuttling across the forest floor. The cawing of crows sounded overhead, and Cole looked to Zane. His best friend only stared straight ahead, his eyes calm, his expression showing no signs of fear.

Why do I feel this place gives off a strange aura, Cole thought, yet Zane doesn't feel it? This forest feels unsafe. Cole clawed at the thought. Maybe I should ask Zane.

"Hey, Zane?" Cole asked the white cat, who was to his right.

Zane turned his head toward Cole but did not break his forward motion. "Yes, Cole?"

"Are you sure going this way is safe?" Cole blurted, then shook his head. Why, Cole? Did you really have to blurt it out like that? Why, Cole, why?

Zane paused in his stride. He gave Cole a skeptical look. "Would you really think I'd lead you somewhere unsafe without warning you about it?"

Cole blinked. You idiot! "Well, of course not."

Zane blinked once, then continued padding along the path. Cole bounded after him to catch up, flicking his long, white-tipped tail along behind him for balance.

After catching up they padded into a forest of darkness. Mushrooms only glowed a deep eerie red. The floor beneath their paws was the shade of midnight sky. Overhead no light shone through; Cole could only see pitch black. The trunks of trees were only visible by their outline. Fireflies glowed a deep red here, only adding more foreboding in the thick air around them.

What is this place? Cole thought wildly, looking to his right for a reassuring face.

    But Zane wasn't there.

Cole tentatively lifted a paw and waved it shakily where Zane was. Panic rose in his throat and a chill ran down his spine as he felt only air. Surely Zane wouldn't have left me here alone in this creepy place? He's better than that. I should call for him.

    "Z...Zane?" Cole whispered.

Why didn't you save me? A loud, gurgling voice bellowed, and Cole turned behind him to see Zane; except that it wasn't Zane. His pelt was a mess of torn fur and blood; his face and ears covered in bleeding wounds and nearly unrecognizable; his eyes ghastly, lifeless, and leaking blood; his fangs, teeth, and whiskers dripping with blood; his throat...

...his throat was torn out and oozing a deep red.

Cole suddenly remembered how Zane was dead; he was dead and it was all Cole's fault for leaving his friend's side when he did. Cole left him to die. It was his fault that Zane died.

"Zane, please!" Cole cried, his entire pelt fluffed up in fear. His eyes were drilled into the dead cat's pale, lifeless, bleeding eyes. "No..." His head drooped, and his faze fell to the floor.

It's all your fault! Zane - or what was left of Zane - screeched, catching Cole's attention back to the severely bleeding cat. It's all your fault that I'm DEAD!

"I'm..." Cole's voice now cracked. He felt utterly defeated. "I'm... sorry..."

A crazed Zane's bloody, toothy scowl slowly grew into a terrifying grin. His voice turned a low and menacing tone.

    And now you will pay.

Zane suddenly leaped at Cole with outstretched, bloodied paws, the sharp and torn claws unsheathed and exposed, ready to tear into flesh.

    Specifically, Cole's flesh.

A bloodcurdling yowl blasted out of Zane's wide jaws like an evil cackle, his battle cry for the one he was about to kill.

"No no no no NO NO!" Cole yowled, ducking his head away from Zane although he knew it was no use. He scrunched his eyes closed. "ZAAAANE!"

Whoo, that's the end. If you think the blood in this story is not descriptive enough, then good for you. I've been told by many of my friends (all of them who read my writing) that my descriptions are very meticulous and produce a vivid imagery. (Thank you to those friends who do!) Because of this I think it was appropriate for me to place the blood warning at the beginning of this story.

I think the blood warning will come in handy if I decide to place a drawing of the crazed Zane in this chapter. Do you think I should? I don't know. You could tell me your thoughts (if you read the above) below in the comments. It will be harder for me to insert an image, but it'll be worth it if the majority votes yes. (No, that was an unintentional Your Turn To Die reference.)

If you know the specific part I based this scene off on in YTTD, DON'T SPOIL IT! I'm not sure if all of the readers here want to play that game. It does contain bad language, and I would strongly advise you take care if you decide to play it. Otherwise the storyline is in-depth and very good!

Okayyy, on that note peace out. Cya in another chapter!
