Warm Vanilla
I think vanilla is one of the warmest scents out there. My reasoning, cookies. Whenever my family makes cookies something good happens. My cousins are coming over, we're going to a holiday party, or it's a rainy fall day (the best cookie making weather if I say so myself).
Just smelling the rain mingling with the soft, warm, velvety aroma of vanilla. Bundled up in a cozy sweater or blanket. The warmth of the wood fire penetrating the floor, the walls, the air. Everything is cozy.
Later after the cookies are done the vanilla lingers in the air as we wait for them to cool. My dad comes home from working outside all day, and it is evident that he's glad to be warmed up from the chilly rain.
As the rain continues to pour, I probably pick up a knitting project and get lost in counting stitches and getting sucked into the rhythm of knitting and purling.
The vanilla fades and it is time to go to bed. Supper has been eaten and the dishes are put away. Everyone relaxes in a chair or couch barely keeping their eyes open. We head off to bed.
As I lie in bed, I can barely make out a few notes of vanilla still hanging in the air. I read a book turn off my light and slowly softly drift off to sleep.
So far this is my favorite thing I have written or read in a while. After that last chapter I needed something that didn't emotionally exhausted me.
This is more of a chapter to read before bed or when you're stressed out. I truly believe that vanilla is the warmest scents. I have lots if good memories associated with it.
This scene right here is a safe imaginary haven I made for myself whenever I want to relax. I also have a library setting I might share, we'll see.
Tell me if you like this and if you want more snippets like this.
