School
One of my friends (can't remember their username at the moment oops) requested for me to talk about my school sooooo
First of all, I absolutely love my school and could go on about it for all of eternity. I used to hate school, but that was because in middle school I went to a horrible school filled with horrible people and honestly I still cry myself to sleep over middle school every once and a while and that was 2 years ago.
Now I'm going to this wonderful independent high school. I'm going to be a sophomore this year. (that's 10th grade) Last year we had 15 students grades 8-12, and the max amount of students we can hold is 18 because we want a 6 students to 1 teacher ratio at most. (We have 3 full time teachers and one part-time art teacher)
I have two class mates, unless some new people come in. They're both really good friends of mine which is surprising because it usually takes me wayyyyyyy more time than a year to be good friends with someone. (I'm a very careful/shy person and might maybe have trust issues) Alicia is about my age (I'm a few months older) and she's also really shy and she thinks she isn't pretty and that she's too fat and not smart and it's really sad because she's beautiful... She has really bad self-esteem issues like me so I understand but it's still really sad.
Alita is my other classmate, she's actually technically a freshman/9th grader this year so she's a whole year younger than me, but she was the only 8th grader last year so they put her in mine and Alicia's class. She's really short (hehe *picks on short person* (but I'm short too so ?????????)) and she's obsessed with hockey. She got into this really big important hockey team and it's a really big deal because they don't usually pick freshmen, especially for the position they're going to have her play. She's really excited but we aren't going to see her as much because of practices. She was home schooled before she came to the high school (there's a lot if home schooled people where I live)
Alita and Alicia don't get along too well but when it's all three of us together we have a pretty great time. (Also note: I have no idea if I'm spelling their names correctly)
They kind of see me as above them/the smartest one of the group which can be really frustrating because they treat me like an android or something and expect me to lead all the group projects and such and it's just like -_- we're all smart ok
But the only class we actually had together last year was humanities because I already knew the stuff they were learning in math and science. I would have been in the sophomores science and math class last year if there had been any sophomores last year, but instead I just did it alone. Meh.
The kids who will be seniors this year are people I mostly avoid because they swear way too much and just play games on their computers all day. There aren't going to be any juniors this year unless someone new comes in, and I'm not sure if any freshmen are coming or not.
But the seniors (well this year they're seniors) saw me as just this smart kid and then I made this video game called Ollie the ostrich and then they started to find out I played video games and liked Pokemon and doctor who and such and they were just like ... This girl is not who we thought she was. She probably knows more about video games than we do. Then they started trying to teach me how to play this card game called magic and stuff and they kind of treat me different now. But I still avoid them because they swear too much.
Since my school is so small we get to choose basically any class we want to take, so the classes I'm taking include
Humanities (necessary)
Science (necessary) (independent)
Math (necessary) (independent)
Art (necessary)
P.E (necessary)
Community service (group study)
Library studies (I'm the school librarian :D and before I came to the school there were just piles and piles of books and they weren't sorted at all so I sorted 8 bookshelves worth of books in about 2 months) (independent study)
Religious studies (so I can get credit for early morning seminary) (independent study)
Language (last year I studied French and this year I'll just study language in general and learn French, Italian, and maybe Klingon) (independent study)
Creative writing (independent study)
I think that's all of them unless I forgot one -_- anyways I need to have at least 22 credits by senior year to graduate and last year I got 10 so I'm doing really well! Nobody else is taking as many classes as me XD
We call our teachers by their first names instead of using mrs./Mr. Stuff. My math teacher is cool, he's kind of the leader of the school since he's been there the longest (my school doesn't have a principle or headmaster, the teachers work together as a democracy) My English teacher is kind of weird, she's got a really dark mind and a weird laugh and but she's cool, she likes star treck just like me and reads Dynacaries. (Don't ask her what her favorite color is)
My science teacher isn't going to be here this year because she feels like the job just wasn't for her. She was awesome though. :( and obsessed with dogs.
My school has an open campus which means we can walk Down to the store in the town the school is in or just go wondering through the forest behind our school, as long as the teachers know where we are and it's free time not class time. There's a play ground about 5 minute's walk away that we like to go to.
My school goes an hour longer each day Monday through Thursday, and those extra hours make up for not going to school on Friday, so I have Fridays off! In the winter the school gets us a discount to go to the mountain nearby and we all ski :) I love skiing :D
We also go on a lot of field trips, it's really easy since there's only 18 of us instead of like, 50 students like other schools + teacher chaperones.
In May we went on a field trip every single Thursday. (We don't have a bus so the teachers and a few students who can drive just car pool us)
Ummm anything else? This chapter is loooooong holy rhododendron
