Couple #1

Joss Whedon's hit t.v. show Buffy the Vampire Slayer has had many followups since it ended in 2002. It also had it's own spinoff that ran at the same time, a show that was simply entitled Angel.

I love this show. In fact, I love both of these shows. I am in love with the Buffyverse. Which is probably why one of my favorite ships is from the Buffyverse...

Basically, if you've never seen the show, it's about a teenage girl who must learn to accept her destiny as the Slayer, the one girl in all the world that can kill vampires and demons. As you go through the show, you'll see plenty of relationships. BuffyXAngel, BuffyXRiley, BuffyXSpike, WillowXOz, and so on. But during Angel, these kind of relationships have a little more development.

By now you're probably saying, "Get on with it!" So I will. One of my favorite Angel couples is AngelXCordelia. And, as I have come to find out, they're one of the most controversial couples.

You see, during the first few seasons of Buffy, AngelXBuffy was a big deal. It was interesting and romantic to see a Slayer with a vampire, the one creature she was supposed to be without. As their relationship goes on, however, there are plenty of ups and downs. Buffy battles the fact that she must tell her friends that Angel is a vampire. Once the Scoobies find out, she realizes that they are very negative about this relationship, and so on.

So I could see why putting Cordelia and Angel together would irritate fans, but that's not the point.

Angel and Cordelia were not love-at-first-sight. Angel was a vampire who sought redemption through Buffy, and Cordelia was the valley girl of Sunnydale High. They rarely ever crossed paths.

In Angel, however, Joss Whedon paired the two characters and added other characters like Doyle, Wesley, Gunn, and Fred. Still, it was not love at first sight. Since Cordelia's character moved from Sunnydale, she started to learn that everything couldn't be handed to her. She had to fight for what she wanted, and for what she needed. She literally went from living in the good part of town to living in a trashy apartment full of roaches- all for Angel's Investigations. She knew how important it was for her to be there, fighting the good fight. Needless to say, her character went through a lot of development. This is probably the first reason that I ship these two.

I also want to talk about these two character's attitudes. Angel is a brooding vampire who had a horrible backstory and a devestating future.

Cordelia is a female human who can't seem to find where she fits in during her life, but despite that she always tries to keep a good attitude in front of her friends.

Both of these character's attitudes basically fit together. If Angel is broody, he would need Cordelia's chipper comments to brighten his day. If Cordelia ever needed help in any way, Angel normally had the means to help her. Another good thing about this pairing is that it includes a lot less drama than BuffyXAngel. Angel and Cordelia obviously have feelings for each other, but they've learned to put them aside for the greater-good. Cordelia isn't held back by authority (like Buffy would be with Giles) and she doesn't have to worry about how being with Angel will effect her duties.

Anyways, that's it for this couple. If you have any suggestions or you'd like to voice your opinion, please comment below. Have a nice day!
