So my science teacher was sick and couldn't be at school one day a few weeks ago.  My friend Elyssa (who is a girl) has her hair cut short in a boyish style, and sometimes she wears baggy sweatshirts that make it sorta difficult to tell that she's a girl.  But it's easy enough, she doesn't look like a boy.  

So this sub is really polite, and is passing out papers and giving individual directions to each table.  She get's to our table (which is all girls) and says, alright ladies and gentleman, your directions are..." blah blah blah.  We exchanged glance, not knowing why she included the word gentleman, since the are only girls at our table.  So we work and whatever, but then the sub calls on Elyssa to answer a question.  Not knowing everyone's name, she just called on her by saying, "Sir?  Do you know the answer?" And we looked around confused because none of us are sirs.  But then she got the gist and was like "er- i mean- ma'am."

And we were all like "Ohhhhhh" and then we whispered and giggled and whatever.

So the sub mixed up friends gender, but if that wasn't bad enough, get this...

She wanted to apologize to Elyssa, being the polite substitute she was, and so she pulled her aside and was like "I'm really sorry that I called you a sir.  I was just a little confused by the haircut and all.  I'm sorry Allison."

So she mixed up the name and the gender!  Now we call her "Sir Allison" just to be mean :)
