Susie and Pump's mom training him to strengthen his angel form and his powers knowing that he's not that strong compared to Skid. 

Although, his mom taught him something valuable....to not fight out of hate but for those he cares about. 

Ever since what happened to Moloch and how Pump's struggling to maintain his form out of anger, loneliness, stress and grief but his mom saw this as a learning opportunity for him.
