Anomaly in the Dark - Catastrophic State AU
Hello everyone, I've finally risen from my grave and am now here to deliver you this 3000+ words very long oneshot of a new AU!
So, does everyone remember the AU poll?
Yeah, this is supposed to be the "Evil AU" story, but it turned out a little different than what I planned. But it still consists of the basis in which Hermits are either evil or going crazy.
What do I mean by that? You'll see

/-+* Grian's POV *+-\
"wOAH-"
I fell face first into the hard concrete ground. My head felt dizzy and nauseous. Ignoring the pain, I slowly got up, and tried to recognize my surroundings.
Tall trees... flowers... grass... where am I?
Still in a bit of a daze, I stood up. My head still hurt, and my body still felt pain from the fall- wait.
I paused, before looking around the area. I fell? From where? Where am I and how did I get here?
In the area, there didn't seem to be any tall objects or buildings that I would be able to fall from... well, maybe the trees? This place seems to be a forest of some sort. There seemed to be no one in the area.
I looked up at the blue cloudy sky and thought. Did I fall from the sky-? No, that's not right. How would I have flown up there in the first p-
I stopped for a moment, remembering that I do have wings, but that still doesn't explain anything. I can't even fly that well, and even if I did fly, I couldn't have flown this far away from the Empire, nor from EVO. And yet, I don't recognize any of this terrain.
I started walking around, my wings flowing in the wind. The noises of rustling leaves and tweeting birds in the area were the only things I've heard since my arrival in this odd place. The air is fresh and the breeze is cold, despite it being daytime.
I didn't know what I was supposed to do now, there seemed to be no signs of civilization anywhere nearby. As I was about to take another step, I froze at the sounds of footsteps nearby. Moments later, I could hear two voices coming near, talking to each other.
"...Are you sure it was a person?"
"Look, it looked like a silhouette of a person, you saw it too, you would know."
I froze in place, before realizing I was out in the open. I quickly went for the nearest tall tree, and climbed up it. I quickly hid my wings, and then held my breath, making sure I didn't make a noise.
Right after, I heard the two people talking again.
"I mean, it did look like a person, but we could easily be mistaken." A male voice said, sounding unsure.
"My eyes don't deceive me like that, Keralis." The other voice, which sounded like a woman, said. "You saw it too, it looked like a person with either wings or an elytra. Maybe an angel, but it definitely looked like a person falling from the sky." She insisted, sounding very certain. "Whether it was an angel, or someone from the revolt trying to sneak in, we need to make sure."
"False, you aren't suggesting that someone from the revolt uh- "catapulted" themselves all the way here... are you?" 'Keralis' stated.
"That is certainly a possibility, you never know." 'False' replied, almost not listening.
"But- what would their goal be that they would go that far and do such a feat?" He asked, following the other.
"Probably to sneak into the official building, duh!" She scoffed. "They are the revolt, it's logical to think that they, who are against the mayoralty, would try to sneak into the town."
Eavesdropping on the conversation, I started to wonder what they were talking about. "The Revolt"? "An elytra"? "The Mayoralty"? Is there some kind of war going on in this place?
"False, are you sure it wasn't just a phantom?" Keralis raised another possibility.
"A phantom, spawning in broad daylight? As if." False huffed. "Look, I'll be looking around for something or someone with wings around here, and if I find any phantom membranes, you win."
"But- False, what if the Mayor realizes we had left our posts?" Keralis mumbled under his breath.
The other didn't turn and kept scanning the area. "Oh, so that's what you've been worried about?" she said. "If you're worried about that, you can just go back without me. I'll keep looking around myself."
"The Mayor"? "Posts?". What's going on in this place?
I was too focused on what the two were saying that I didn't realize my body was shaking and sweating. My body still felt hurt from the fall minutes ago, and I was on the verge of collapsing. I surprisingly didn't get any bloody injuries from the fall, but it seemed like my bones were injured nevertheless.
Crap- I can't collapse here, they'll find me! My breaths were heavy, but I tried my best to hold on and keep my balance. Tightening my grip on the branch, I kept listening to what the two people were saying, hoping I won't get found.
Keralis sighed. "False, even if you looked around, if it was a person like you said it was, they would've gotten away already."
"Oh, come on, Keralis. Can't we just look around? Just staying in the main district is boring as hell."
"Well, what if you found nothing, and then the Mayor or his subordinates finds out you went away?" He asked, concerned. "You and I can't just say that we saw a falling angel, since I'm pretty sure we were the only ones that saw it. They'll think we're crazy or something-"
"Alright, Alright! I catch your drift. If you're that paranoid, then let's just head back." False sighed in disappointment.
"Wait- False, if you want to investigate, you can go ahead-! I'm just worried-"
"Shut up, Keralis." False snapped. "Stop being indecisive. Do you want to investigate or not!?"
I Could hear Keralis shriek at the sudden change of tone. "I- I feel safer going back-" He muttered.
"So then head back." False said. "And if you're heading back, I'm also coming." She added.
"False- if you wanted to search around, it's fine, I was just talking about how- Hey! False- wait for me!"
Few moments later, I heard their footsteps and voices going away from where I was hiding. But then, they seemed to stop somewhere nearby and didn't leave yet. I could still hear them talking, but I can't make out what they're saying.
After a few minutes passed, I could hear them walking away again, and it seemed to have gotten silent.
Feeling relieved too early, I took a deep breath, trying to remain conscious. But moments later, I accidentally let go of the tree branch, and fell to the ground.

/-+* Third Person POV *+-\
"False- if you wanted to search around, it's fine, I was just talking about how-" Keralis stopped when he realized False had already walked away. "False- wait for me!"
False didn't wait for him and just continued walking as Keralis ran and caught up with her. She sighed, her disappointment was as clear as day.
Suddenly she stopped. "Keralis," She called, glancing at him. "You don't need to follow me everywhere I go, you know that, right?"
"I- yes, I know," He murmured slowly, "It's just that I'm not sure which side I should be on-"
"-And so you just choose to follow me?" False said with a sigh. "Horrible decision, really. Why me of all people though? I thought you usually follow Xisuma, not me."
"Used to, not anymore." Keralis sighed. "He's been acting odd even before the war started, it's almost like he gave up on managing things." He said while glancing at the bright blue sky. "These days, I barely even see him, and I never get a chance to talk to him."
"Xisuma has been pretty distant." False nodded and started walking again. "I've seen him talking to the mayor a lot, but it seems he doesn't really have a permanent side in the war. But, despite that, he seems to be helping both sides for some reason. To me, it seems like he's just here to add more gasoline to the already burning war."
"Yeah.. that does seem like the case." Keralis mumbled, following right behind. Both stayed silent for a few seconds. "By the way, False, w-"
THUMP!
Unexpectedly, a loud noise was heard through the entire area, followed by the sounds of leaves rustling. It sounded like something or someone fell into a bush or something.
Keralis jumped in surprise, while False instinctively did a 180° turn and got her sword out in a flash. "Who goes there!?" She shouted, gripping the blade tightly in her hand, ready to fight with whatever made the noise.
In the distance near where they were searching minutes ago, a blond figure with light purple wings seemed to have fallen from a tree.
As soon as they saw that the two were staring at them, they immediately tried their best to stand up, and took a few steps back, getting ready to run.
"Hey, wait-!" False's shout was in vain as the figure just dashed out the other way. She immediately chased after them, leaving Keralis, who was still stunned, behind.
Moments later, Keralis came back to his senses and realized that False already left him behind. "False- wait for me!" He shouted briefly before also running in the direction.
The forest chase lasted for only 3 minutes, since eventually, the forest ended with a steep cliff. The person with wings (A/N: yes, it's Grian.) suddenly jumped off the cliff and flew away. False immediately equipped her elytra and followed right after. Moments later, Keralis also followed after.
They seemed to not care where they were going, and were just trying to get away. They flew toward the nearby city with tall buildings. As they reached one of the buildings, they dropped onto the roof of the building and ran across to the other side, before jumping and just disappearing into thin air, surprising False.
She landed on the building, and looked around for any signs of the person, but nobody was there. Seconds later, Keralis landed right behind her, "Where did they go??"
False just ran to the other side of the building, and looked down to the ground. Seeing that there was indeed a blond person down there, she immediately dived down without a second thought, not caring that she was basically jumping off an 8 story building.
"We finally caught you, outsider!"
"What in the world-!?" The person at the bottom of the building jumped and practically fell at the sudden shout that came out of nowhere.
False landed unhurt somehow, and then turned to the person. Looking at them, she realized they didn't have wings and was in fact not an outsider, nor did they have the right colored blond hair. "Oh, Tango. Sorry, I mistook you for someone else." She apologized briefly.
"Geez, you nearly gave me a heart attack, False." Tango sighed. "Are you chasing someone down at the moment? Someone from the Revolt, perhaps?"
"Not sure, they might not even be someone from this server." False responded as Keralis landed besides her. "Did you see anyone with blond hair, wearing a red shirt, also wearing some sort of scarf, and has light purple wings around here?"
"...Nope. As far as I know, nobody else is in the city except us at the moment." He stated. "But hold on, there's someone with wings in the server?"
"Apparently." False replied. "Me and Keralis saw something fall into the forest, and so we went to investigate, and that guy was there. They ran when they saw us, they then flew off that nearby cliff, and then, they headed here." She told him. "So you didn't see any suspicious individuals like that?"
"No, I did not."
"Alright then, I guess we'll look somewhere else." False sighed, turning to Keralis. "Come on, Keralis, let's go."
As the two were about to leave, Tango suddenly smirked. "Oh, and by the way." He hummed. "Apparently the mayor's looking for the both of you." He chuckled as both False and Keralis paled. "He saw that you two weren't at your assigned post. He demanded that you both come to his office. He's been waiting for around 5 minutes now, and I don't recommend keeping him waiting any longer, you know how he's like when he's mad."
False and Keralis exchanged quick glances, before both flying away without another word. Tango snickered, and waited for them to completely go out of view.
When False and Keralis finally went away, he quickly turned back at the unconscious person that fell into the bush next to him moments ago. They didn't seem to have wings, but the other descriptions told by False matched. They're blond, they have a red sweater, and are wearing a scarf.
"I wonder who this is." Tango muttered to himself.

I slowly opened my eyes, and immediately after, I got blinded by the immense amount of light that suddenly went in. Where am I?
As my eyes adjusted to the light, my vision began returning. Everything was still very blurry and I couldn't recognize anything in the room.
Moments later, my vision finally became clearer, but I still don't recognize anything. The room I'm in seemed like some sort of hospital room or an infirmary. The walls were white, and the floor was solid and made out of real floor.
I was on a white bed, and I had bandages wrapped all around me. What in the world happened? I scratched my head, which was also covered in bandages.
Once I was finally more awake, I tried my best to sit up straight. I looked around the place more clearly. There were no windows, and the door was dark brown.
The next moment, the door opened, and someone came in.
"Oh, you're awake!" The person said. She had brown short hair and was wearing a worn out pink jacket. "How are you doing? This might be hard to believe, but you were out cold for 7 hours!" She told me.
I blinked in surprise. I was unconscious for 7 hours!? Why was I unconscious?
"Oh, right. I suppose I should introduce myself first. I'm Stress, a member of the revolt, and the healer." she smiled. "Right now, you're in the infirmary."
I slowly nodded, and then just went dead silent. My head hurt, and I'm having trouble remembering what happened. "...how did I get here?" I asked.
"Well, you were brought here by Tango- oh, you probably don't know who that is, huh." Stress said. "Well, to simplify the explanation, I'll just say he's like an evil scientist, and he also has a partner, who is also an evil scientist." She tried to explain, even though it didn't help much. "Anyways, it was a big surprise when he suddenly came here, even more surprising since he brought you with him. He told us you were apparently being chased by the Mayoralty, and fell from a 8 story building in the process of running away."
My brain starts getting more and more confused. The Revolt? The Mayoralty? Evil scientists?
She continued, "The leader didn't trust Tango at all though. Zedaph tried to interrogate him for hours, even though he knew Tango wouldn't give one straight answer. FYI, Tango isn't even supposed to know the location of this base, and he practically works for the Mayoralty. At the moment their friendship is... a bit complicated." Stress sighed. "Sorry for rambling, in case you didn't know, there's a war going on at the moment."
It took me a moment to process everything she said, and when I did, I froze. "wait- there's a war-? Where am I?"
Stress remained calm, probably expecting the reaction. "You're on our server, Hermitcraft. And yeah, there's a war going on right now." She confirmed. "Long story short, it started when three hermits suddenly said that we need a government for some reason, and then they established their group, the Mayoralty, and declared themselves the leader." She explained, sitting down on a nearby chair. "At first, nothing bad happened, but the more time passed, the more things started getting... out of hand. And then, the main person that tried to keep the peace together just suddenly... stopped. After that, things started getting worse, and then me and two other hermits established the revolt as a protest, and then stuff got even worse." She explained, visibly not happy about this "war" that's going on.
"I... see..." I mumbled, more questions appeared than answered.
"Oh well, now it's my turn to ask, if I may." Stress said, turning back to me. "What's your name?"
"My... Name?" I repeated slowly, trying to think about it. My name... my name... what's... my name? Who am I?
"...hello? Are you alright?" Stress asks, since I've been silent for a while.
"I... I don't... remember..." I was barely able to mumble a sentence, trying to recall anything, just anything, that could tell me who I am.
"You... don't remember?" Stress repeated, concerned. "Did you get amnesia? You did fall from a high place, after all."
While I didn't want it to be true, it probably is. I can't remember a single thing...
How did I get here...?
Why am I here...?
Who I am...?
...Who is I...?
Why can't I remember?
...Why?
Why did I fall from a building?
What was my reasoning?
Why did I decide to jump from the building?
I probably knew it was tall, so why did I jump?
Why?
...Why!?
I can't remember Who I am...
All the memories are blurry...
My mind is empty
...there must be at least something I remember...
But nothing comes to mind
No memories, nothing.
Who am I?
Who am I?
Who am I-?
"Are you okay!?"
I snapped out of my thoughts as I heard Stress, who was now standing up and looked really worried, shout. I realized I was breathing heavily, and my head felt dizzy.
"I'm... fine." I murmured.
"Obviously not!" Stress replied. "You were shaking and sweating really hard just now!"
The room fell silent for a long while. A moment later, the door swung open, and some humanoid blue slime wearing a jacket walked into the room.
"Hello, Jevin." Stress greeted, turning her attention to the person that just walked in.
"How's he doing, Stress?" "Jevin" asked, I assume he's talking about me.
"Not good." Stress sighed. "He has amnesia. He says he can't remember anything."
"Oh. That's not good. Is there any way to help him?"
"Sadly, no, there's not much we can do. Unless we have something that can jog his memory, I guess we just have to let him recover on his own."
"Actually, I think I might have something." Jevin said briefly.
"You do?" Stress blinked.
"Tango just came back here and then left again a minute ago, he said this might belong to the guy." Jevin mumbled while taking out what seems to be a piece of cloth. "Hey- uh... you." I assumed he was referring to me. "Do you recognize this 'scarf'?" Jevin said, showing me the cloth.
The "Scarf" appeared to be made out of leather. I didn't feel much when I looked at it. At the corner of the scarf, I noticed... a symbol? It looked like two dots and two lines that formed some sort of portal.
A strange feeling took over me as I observed the symbol. The more I looked at it, the more my head started to hurt.
I felt like I've seen it somewhere before...
but where?
"G____, Don't te_l me _ou're act_al_y g_ing to li_ten to them-!"

"So, you accept?" The masked individual in front of me responded.
I shrugged, "I don't see a reason why not." I said, making the decision. "I accept the contract."
No matter how much they tried to hide it, I could see the wide grin on their face. "I see." they gave a short reply as they spread their wings, and began taking off. "Well, you made the right decision, I can tell you that, brother."
I kept silent as I made myself levitate, not confident enough to use my wings. I followed after the watcher.
"To shorten the unnecessary talk, I'll just say one thing." He said, glancing back at me for a second.

I snapped out of it as I came back to reality. Both Jevin and Stress were looking at me, worried.
"My name..." I mumbled, still in a bit of a daze.
"You remember your name?" Stress immediately replied.
"My name..."
"Is Xelqua."

Word Count: 3914 Words
Finally finished it-
So yeah, this will be one of the projects I'll be working on from now on. (This was probably a bad decision since now I have to work on this, The Poltergeist of Mischief, Corruption, Some requests, and Roommates AU-)
So, now let me explain the AU a bit more
The shortest way I can put it is that this is The Turf War, but the story is twisted and turned and is nothing like the Turf war-
Makes sense? Of course not.
This AU kinda has stuff from both season 6 and 7, since here, Grian just joined, but the war is already happening.
Who's "The Mayor"? You probably already have a good guess on who, and your guess is probably correct.
Why did I name this AU "Catastrophic State"? No particular reason, it's just because I had no idea what else to name it-
Also, this won't be updated per parts like "Part 1" and "Part 2". It will probably be like oneshots, and not much will be actually connected.
And because of this, you may request stuff, and I might do them.
Expect to see more of this AU, since I still have a 300+ words thing that was supposed to be a part of this chapter, but I couldn't find a place to fit it in.
Expect that to be released as a separate thing that will be published in about a few days, it will mainly just be introducing the others and stuff like that.
And lastly, have these artworks I did of the hermits AU designs. Ignore the sentences on the top.
And I know these suck, these were just drawing practices I did on MS Paint to practice using a mouse.

(Grian with a scarf :D)
(Lowkey proud of this one)

(Tango)
(Not too proud with this one)

(And, here, we have the Mayor himself)
(Also lowkey not so proud of this one-)
Anyways, That's all for today.
See ya'll again soon! I'm going back into my grave now-
