With that out of the way...

Let's get to the one-shot!

Just, let me get

The story out of

view so there are no accidental spoilers...

Oh, and I apologize for any incorrect translations of languages, I used google translate, and if you feel like I have incorrectly described some of the sign language things, feel free to correct me in the comments.

Grian POV

Grian was just about to finish the Bro chart listing how Bro everyone is when TNT started raining down from the ceiling. Grian did his best to escape it, but by the time he had registered that he needed to run and had gotten to the door to escape, the TNT blew up, causing the Demise of Grian. Grian was in absolute shock. He had no clue what had just happened. Sighing, he changed his skin to his greyscale one and went back to the bunker to quickly collect his stuff and leave to the Halloween district to join the dead team. When he got there, he saw that the TNT had reached to bedrock.

Grian was reminded of a prank he had played on the Evo server, it involving TNT of course. There was more damage here, but the general look was the same. He had trapped his secret tunnel system, and, and Solidarity fell for the trap...

It blew up...

And looked a lot like this...

Then, Grian had to leave...

Forced by the watchers...

 Dropped all alone in this world...

Then the Hermits came...

Burying his face in his hands, Grian realized that he was crying. His phone was blowing up with notifications, but Grian didn't want to check them. He just sat in the mouth of the giant dragon head, now partially destroyed, looking at the damage.

Xisuma POV

Grian had just demised, having blown up, according to the message sent in the group chat. Everyone online wanted to know what had happened, but Grian wasn't responding to anything. Xisuma remembered seeing Grian go into the Dragon Bro bunker after he had demised, and hadn't seen him leave, so X assumed he was still in there. Thanks to the traps left by fellow members of the Dead Team, Xiusma didn't have to worry about not having a keycard. Xisuma went into the bunker and called out for Grian. "Grian? Are you in here?"

Xisuma went down the staircase to where the main part of the bunker was. He saw Grian sitting in the mouth of the giant dragon head, muttering to himself in a strange language that Xisuma didn't understand, "ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ||'∷ᒷ ⊣𝙹リᒷ... ╎ ᓵᔑリ'ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷꖎ!¡ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷᒲ... ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ||'∷ᒷ ⊣𝙹リᒷ... ╎'ᒲ ᔑ ⚍ᓭᒷꖎᒷᓭᓭ ⎓∷╎ᒷリ↸... ᔑ ⚍ᓭᒷꖎᒷᓭᓭ ∴ᔑℸ ̣ ᓵ⍑ᒷ∷..." Grian had sounded like he was crying. But then without warning, the tone of his voice changed, "ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ||, ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ|| ↸╎↸ ℸ ̣ ⍑╎ᓭ ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ᒲᒷ. ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ|| ᒲᔑ↸ᒷ ᒲᒷ ꖎᒷᔑ⍊ᒷ. ╎ ⍑ᔑℸ ̣ ᒷ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷᒲ! ╎ ⍑ᔑℸ ̣ ᒷ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ ᓭℸ ̣ ⚍!¡╎↸ ∴ᔑℸ ̣ ᓵ⍑ᒷ∷ᓭ!"

"Grian?" Xisuma asked softly.

Grian's head shot up violently, "∴⍑ᔑℸ ̣ ?!" He asked, still in the same, weird language.

"Grian, I can't understand you," Xisuma sat down near Grian, wanting to give him personal space. Grian looked confused for a second before asking the same thing, only this time it was softer and hesitant. "Grian, you're speaking a different language." Xisuma had an idea, and took out his phone, going into the translate app. "Grian, can you say something? I want to see what language you are speaking." Xisuma turned on the speech to text function and nodded for Grian to start.

"∴⍑ᔑℸ ̣ , ∴⍑ᔑℸ ̣ ꖎᔑリ⊣⚍ᔑ⊣ᒷ ᔑᒲ ╎ ᓭ!¡ᒷᔑꖌ╎リ⊣?" Xisuma looked at his phone, Grian had said, 'what, what language am I speaking?' in Standard Galactic, otherwise known as the enchanting table language.

"Grian, you're speaking in Galactic, can you try speaking in English? Just focus on what I am saying"

Grian looked like he was trying to say something, but he wasn't able to make the correct sounds to speak English, "╎, ╎ ᓵᔑリ'ℸ ̣ !" (I, I can't!). Grian started sobbing, "∴⍑|| ᓵᔑリ'ℸ ̣ ╎ ᓭ!¡ᒷᔑꖌ !¡∷𝙹!¡ᒷ∷ꖎ||!" (Why can't I speak properly!). Grian looked at the destruction seemingly caused by the explosion that caused Grian to demise. "∴ᔑ╎ℸ ̣ , ╎ ꖌリ𝙹∴ ∴⍑||..." (Wait, I know why...)

"Why Grian, what caused this?" Xisuma coaxed

"∴⍑ᒷリ ╎ ᓵᔑᒲᒷ ʖᔑᓵꖌ ⍑ᒷ∷ᒷ ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ⊣ᒷℸ ̣ ᒲ|| ╎ℸ ̣ ᒷᒲᓭ ᔑ⎓ℸ ̣ ᒷ∷ ╎ ↸╎ᒷ↸, ╎ ⍑ᔑ↸ ᔑ-ᔑ ⎓ꖎᔑᓭ⍑ʖᔑᓵꖌ ╎ ℸ ̣ ⍑╎リꖌ, ʖ⚍ℸ ̣ ╎ℸ ̣ ∴ᔑᓭリ'ℸ ̣ ∷ᒷᔑꖎꖎ||. ╎ ∴ᔑᓭ ⋮⚍ᓭℸ ̣ ∷ᒷᒲᒷᒲʖᒷ∷╎リ⊣ ᔑ !¡∷ᔑリꖌ ╎ !¡⚍ꖎꖎᒷ↸ 𝙹リ ᓭ𝙹ᒲᒷ𝙹リᒷ ╎リ ᒷ⍊𝙹, ᔑリ↸ ╎ℸ ̣ ꖎ𝙹𝙹ꖌᒷ↸ ᔑ ꖎ𝙹ℸ ̣ ꖎ╎ꖌᒷ ℸ ̣ ⍑╎ᓭ ⋮⚍ᓭℸ ̣ 𝙹リ ᔑ ᒲ⚍ᓵ⍑ ᓭᒲᔑꖎꖎᒷ∷ ᓭᓵᔑꖎᒷ. ℸ ̣ ⍑ᔑℸ ̣ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷリ ꖎᒷ↸ ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ᒲᒷ ∷ᒷᒲᒷᒲʖᒷ∷╎リ⊣ ∴⍑ᔑℸ ̣ ⍑ᔑ!¡!¡ᒷリᒷ↸ ᔑℸ ̣ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ ᒷリ↸ 𝙹⎓ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ ᓭᒷ∷╎ᒷᓭ..." (When I came back here to get my items after I died, I had a-a flashback I think, but it wasn't really. I was just remembering a prank I pulled on someone in Evo, and it looked a lot like this just on a much smaller scale. That then led to me remembering what happened at the end of the series...) Grian muttered in response, "ᔑリ↸ ╎ ↸𝙹リ'ℸ ̣ ꖌリ𝙹∴ ⍑𝙹∴ ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ᓭℸ ̣ 𝙹!¡ ᓭ!¡ᒷᔑꖌ╎リ⊣ ⊣ᔑꖎᔑᓵℸ ̣ ╎ᓵ!" (And I don't know how to stop speaking Galactic!)

"Okay, I am officially calling this a server-wide emergency." Xisuma opened the messages app and messaged the rest of the server.

Xisuma: Server-wide meeting in front of Sahara! Attendance is required. Everyone come ASAP

Joe: On my way!

Stress: Same here!

Iskall: Already here, was restocking Sahara after IDEA bought everything out

"Grian, we need to leave the bunker, do you need me to help you up?" Xiusma asked. Grian nodded, not trying to say something Xisuma wouldn't understand, as his translator app was no longer open. Xisuma helped Grian stand up, making sure he was okay. Xisuma led Grian over to the water elevator that led out of the bunker and in front of Sahara, where a few hermits had already arrived. Iskall, Stress, Joe, Cleo, Cub and Scar where there. Xisuma could see several hermits flying over on elytras, and he could see TFC walking over from his bunker base. Eventually, all the hermits arrived, except for Doc. They waited a minute and soon enough, Doc came flying in, crashing into the large window of Sahara's main building.

"What's going on?" He asked, seeming a little distressed. He then saw Grian, in his grey-toned skin, and he became more distressed. "When did he die? How long has it been? I need exact times." Doc asked frantically.

Xisuma looked at his phone, scrolling back to the death message that appeared when Grian died "Uh, 58 minutes."

"schießen," Doc said, assumingly in German, "Grian, you need to tell me these things!" Xisuma could tell that Grian was about to say something, so he quickly opened his translator, showing his screen to the hermits so they knew what to do.

"I'ᒲ ᓭ𝙹∷∷|| ↸𝙹ᓵ, ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ ᒲᒷᒲ𝙹∷╎ᒷᓭ ᓵᔑᒲᒷ ʖᔑᓵꖌ, ᔑリ↸ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷリ ̇/╎ᓭ⚍ᒲᔑ ᓵᔑᒲᒷ" (I'm sorry Doc, the memories came back, and then Xisuma came).

"╎ℸ ̣ 'ᓭ 𝙹ꖌᔑ|| ⊣∷╎ᔑリ, ╎ ⚍リ↸ᒷ∷ᓭℸ ̣ ᔑリ↸. ⍑ᒷ∷ᒷ, ℸ ̣ ᔑꖌᒷ ℸ ̣ ⍑╎ᓭ." (It's okay Grian, I understand. Here, take this.) Doc pulled a bottle of, pills, Xisuma assumed, out of his pocket as well as a bottle of water. "╎ℸ ̣ ℸ ̣ ᔑꖌᒷᓭ ⎓╎⍊ᒷ ᒲ╎リ⚍ℸ ̣ ᒷᓭ ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ꖌ╎ᓵꖌ ╎リ, ᓭ𝙹 ╎ℸ ̣ ∴╎ꖎꖎ ⍑⚍∷ℸ ̣ ∴⍑ᒷリ ╎ℸ ̣ ᓭℸ ̣ ᔑ∷ℸ ̣ ᓭ" Doc whispered, too quietly for Xiusma's translator to pick up.

"╎ ⍑ᔑℸ ̣ ᒷ ℸ ̣ ⍑╎ᓭ ↸𝙹ᓵ. ∴⍑|| ᒲ⚍ᓭℸ ̣ ℸ ̣ ⍑╎ᓭ ᔑꖎ∴ᔑ||ᓭ ⍑ᔑ!¡!¡ᒷリ ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ᒲᒷ?" (I hate this Doc. Why must this always happen to me?) Grian asked, taking a pill and swallowing it with water.

"↸𝙹 ||𝙹⚍ ∴ᔑリℸ ̣ ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ⊣𝙹 ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ||𝙹⚍∷ ʖᔑᓭᒷ?" (Do you want to go to your base?) Doc asked

"リ𝙹, ∴ᒷ ∴𝙹⚍ꖎ↸リ'ℸ ̣ ⊣ᒷℸ ̣ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ∷ᒷ ╎リ ℸ ̣ ╎ᒲᒷ" (No, we wouldn't get there in time). Grian gasped in pain. Xisuma looked at the time and saw that it had been exactly an hour since Grian had demised. "↸𝙹ᓵ, ╎ℸ ̣ 'ᓭ ᓭℸ ̣ ᔑ∷ℸ ̣ ╎リ⊣" (Doc, it's starting).

"||𝙹⚍ ⍑ᔑ⍊ᒷ ||𝙹⚍∷ ⚍リ╎⎓𝙹∷ᒲ ⚍リ↸ᒷ∷ ℸ ̣ ⍑╎ᓭ ∷╎⊣⍑ℸ ̣ ?" (You have your uniform under this right?) Doc asked. Xisuma didn't know what Doc was talking about, and looking at the other hermits, they didn't have a clue either.

"||ᒷᔑ⍑, ʖ⚍ℸ ̣..." (Yeah, but...) Grian gestured to the rest of the hermits.

"↸𝙹ᒷᓭリ'ℸ ̣ ᒲᔑℸ ̣ ℸ ̣ ᒷ∷, ↸𝙹 ||𝙹⚍ ∴ᔑリℸ ̣ ℸ ̣ 𝙹 ∷⚍╎リ ||𝙹⚍∷ ᓭ∴ᒷᔑℸ ̣ ᒷ∷?" (Doesn't matter, do you want to ruin your sweater?)

"リ𝙹, ʖ⚍ℸ ̣-" (No, but-) Grian screamed out in pain, cutting himself off and collapsing on the ground. Xisuma checked the time, it had been exactly an hour since Grian had demised, what was going on? Doc stripped off Grian's red sweater, revealing a tight-fitting, grey and purple, long-sleeved shirt. Xisuma couldn't see the front of the shirt, but the back had two slits cut out at the shoulder blade. And starting to protrude from Grian's shoulder blades were little black, things.

Doc was whispering to Grian, though too softly again for Xisuma's translator to pick up. "╎ℸ ̣ 'ᓭ 𝙹ꖌᔑ||, ╎ℸ ̣ ∴╎ꖎꖎ 𝙹リꖎ|| ⍑⚍∷ℸ ̣ ⚍リℸ ̣ ╎ꖎ ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ !¡ᔑ╎リ ᒲᒷ↸ᓭ ꖌ╎ᓵꖌ ╎リ, ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷリ ||𝙹⚍'ꖎꖎ ʖᒷ ⎓╎リᒷ" After about a minute had passed, Xisuma saw that the things were little wings, and they were growing by the second. Doc had his phone out and Xisuma saw that there was a timer on there with nine minutes left. The rest of the hermits had gathered and made a circle around the duo, Xisuma joining them. Everybody had their translator app open, hoping to hear their conversation. Everyone was worried about the newest addition to the family.

"⍑𝙹∴ ᒲ⚍ᓵ⍑ ꖎ𝙹リ⊣ᒷ∷, ↸𝙹ᓵ?" (How much longer, Doc?) Grian asked

"⎓𝙹⚍∷ ᒲ╎リ⚍ℸ ̣ ᒷᓭ, ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷリ ⎓╎⎓ℸ ̣ ᒷᒷリ ʖ∷ᒷᔑꖌ, ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷリ, ∴ᒷꖎꖎ, ||𝙹⚍ ∷ᒷᒲᒷᒲʖᒷ∷..." (Four minutes, then fifteen break, then, well, you remember...)

"𝙹⍑ ||ᒷᔑ⍑. ℸ ̣ ⍑ᔑℸ ̣. ╎ℸ ̣ 'ᓭ リ𝙹ℸ ̣ ᔑᓭ ʖᔑ↸ ᔑᓭ, ᔑᓭ, ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ ⎓ᔑ↸╎リ⊣" (Oh yeah, that. It's not as bad as, as-) Grian trailed off, whispering the last portion so the translators couldn't pick it up.

Throughout all of this, Grian's wings were still growing, until Doc started counting down, "⎓╎⍊ᒷ, ⎓𝙹⚍∷, ℸ ̣ ⍑∷ᒷᒷ, ℸ ̣ ∴𝙹, 𝙹リᒷ..." (five, four, three, two, one...) Doc's timer went off, and just like that, Grian's wings stopped growing, leaving him with a nine-meter wingspan. Grian stood, although a bit shaky, and turned to look at each and every one of the hermits, looking for acceptance.

No one spoke against Grian, though Mumbo stepped up and asked, "What happened to you Grian?"

Grian turned to Doc, "↸𝙹ᓵ, ᓵ𝙹⚍ꖎ↸ ||𝙹⚍ ᔑリᓭ∴ᒷ∷?" He whispered

Doc nodded and turned to Mumbo, "So, whenever Grian dies, this happens. He becomes unable to speak English, only Standard Galactic, and an hour after he dies, he grows his wings. Keep in mind that this is all involuntary. Fifteen minutes after his wings finish growing, he, he goes deaf, then a five minutes after, he, he can no longer interact with blocks, entities, anything, but he isn't in spectator mode, because he can't phase through blocks. This will last for 24 hours before everything goes back to normal."

"Grian says that going back to normal is the only voluntary part. He can choose if he wants to stay like this, go completely back to normal, or be selective about it. If he wants to stay deaf and unable to interact with anything, he must take up his duties to their fullest. If he is selective about it, this still happens when he dies, only for less time."

"That explains why we can never find him after he dies! We try to text him but he never responds." Mumbo nodded as if everything was explained.

"Okay, so let me get this straight. Doc, how long have you known about this? And Grian, I'm guessing you chose to go back to normal, all of the however-many-times-you-died?" Xisuma asked, trying to wrap his head around the whole thing.

Third Person Objective

"I have known about this since the first time he died. Grian didn't know what was going on, and he knew that I had some experience in the supernatural. At first, it was hard, as I didn't know Galactic, and Grian couldn't speak English, but I learned it, and now we can communicate easily. And yes, Grian has chosen to go back to normal each and every time." Doc answered for himself and Grian, after a little hesitation. A timer went off, and most of the hermits jumped at the loud noise. Doc immediately turned to Grian and hesitantly asked, "⊣∷╎ᔑリ?" (Grian?)

"ℸ ̣ ⍑ᒷ ᓭ𝙹⚍リ↸ ╎ᓭ ⎓ᔑ↸╎リ⊣" (The sound is fading) Grian replied, then stopped, perfectly still. Then Grian tapped his index fingers together and brought one of them up to his ear. Doc made some hand motions, making a circle with his hand then bringing it to a 'k' like shape. He then tapped his index fingers to his thumbs, then briefly brought his middle finger to his thumb and back again, his index fingers still in place. Doc then pointed at Grian, then held his hands out, palm up and moved his fingers as if he were squeezing a stress ball. He then brought his fingers together vertically, then did the second sign again. Grian did a quick flurry of hand motions that Doc seemed to have understood.

"Umm, what?" False asked, confusion evident on her face

"Grian can't hear anymore, so we have to use sign language to communicate."

"Oh," False said meekly, "And he will be like this for 24 hours?"

"No, in" Doc checked another timer, "three minutes, Grian will stop being able to interact with the world around him." Doc made another few gestures in sign language, "I just told him how much time was left. He wants to stay here, so it doesn't really matter."

"Will we still be able to see him?" Stress called out from the back

"Yes, he just won't be able to interact with you." Doc looked at his timer and signed something else for Grian. There was one minute left on the timer. Doc started counting down, saying it out loud and counting down on his fingers for the sake of Grian. When Doc finished counting down, Grian became slightly translucent, and when Scar went to put his hand on Grian's shoulder, it went right through.

Grian quickly signed something for Doc, and then pointed to his base. Doc nodded and signed something back. Grian shrugged, then flew off to his base.  "I'm guessing you guys want to come to Grian's base with us? He needs to do something, alone, but we can wait for him." Doc asked, turning back to the hermits. Everyone agreed and equipped their elytra to fly to Grian's base. When they got there, Grian was nowhere to be found, but Doc assured everyone that he was fine and that he would be back soon.

Grian POV

Grian threw a trident at the ground activating the redstone, the only thing that worked while he was like this as it was the only way to get to the watcher cave. Grian fell into the egg of the poultry cave, immediately leaving and going to the secret room behind the poultryman uniform. Inside the room, which was like its own mini cave, there was nothing, but a portal. A nether portal surrounded in the watcher logo, making it a watcher portal. Grian sighed and jumped in, immediately being brought to the Watcher Headquarters, where he walked the route he had walked all those times before. He had a choice to make.
