Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun = 魔入りました、入間くん!

Fun Fact: Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun in Japanese is 魔入りました、入間くん!

入間くん is pronounced Iruma-kun, and it's using the kanji for enter and interval/space (although in a shot in the last episode I watched, it translated いるま=入間 as "Iruma=human," which... I can't explain). [By the way, yes, that is Iruma's name in kanji.]

That first part, though, is a pun. You'll hear Azu-kun often saying "mairimasita!" Well, that's the same word. It's actually spelled 参りました, and it's a humble-polite expression that means "I came" or "I went." However, the kanji used in it is, again, enter (pronounced i(ri)), but that first one is a very common kanji you'll see in the anime, and that's because it means demon. Its only reading is the on reading "MA."

Also, frig, it's so hard to pause this show once I finish eating, but I just-- I wanna watch it ;^;

Whelp, back to work. Wish me luck; I have four projects due next week, and even more due the week after! (But before that, I have an eavesdropping quiz, FACT Notes and assignment, a check-up quiz, and an oral interview, all for Japanese this week, and I also have an hour lecture from my art professor to watch and reply to (and reply to 2+ of my peers on it), ummm... a frig ton of pages, over 20?? Yeah, over 20, and then an assignment over that, and... I feel like I'm for--ahh, right, update Anki. Yup. And who knows what'll be due for EA and KARA next week.... Well, it's only Wednesday though, so I shouldn't have any issue completing this week's work. ... It's... next week that's going to be a catastrophe.... I should be good on my BaPE presentation (as in, it shouldn't take me too long that I'm worried about submitting it completely finished and on time), and I think I've finished my Japanese script; I just want the tutor to look it over, but... I have not started the script for KARA, and the ECE:CA presentation... requires audio. ... and I suck at that because I rerecord each section fifty times ;-; (not literally, but it does take me quite a while because I redo until it sounds nice). [Once I have those all finished, I'll worry about what's due the week after.]

So yes... schoolwork and stress. A'ighty, I've wasted enough time; I ought to get what I can done.

Update: After realizing that Azu-kun saying "Mairimasita" was translated as "You have slain me!" as well, I decided to look it up on Jisho 'cause like... obviously, it must have another translation. So here's what I found:

So, although 4 caught my attention immediately as an Azuma shipper, I believe 2 is what definition they're referring to when they translate it as "You have slain me!"

However... definitely 1 is used when Azu-kun is outside Iruma's home with Clara to go to school with him.

Geez, though, the puns you could make-- or, rather, misunderstandings. And wtf, they all use the same kanji-- I'ma look it up on Kanshudo and see how these are most commonly written by percentage.

... Wtf is with 2's example sentence-- (coughs awkwardly) Has it read Please Don't Go--? (Just kidding.)

Okay, that translation of 4's example sentence..., I'm pretty sure there are better ways to say that, considering 2 makes the brain go filthy places--

A'ight, whelp, hopefully I'll remember to look up 参る on Kanshudo tomorrow. (Btw, 参る is the direct-style, imperfective [uncompleted, so we'd call it present or future tense] equivalent of 参りました.)

Update 2: Here's what I found on Kanshudo:

How interesting, considering I was taught this kanji last year.... Oh, wait... Give me a sec; I'm going to click on the forms.

All right, that other kanji, when it's with okurigana る at least, actually has the same meanings. I wonder if there are meanings that are more likely to be spelled with that though....

Hmmn... I'ma see if 参 is a Jouyou kanji.

Here's what Jisho says about it:

Jōyō kanji, taught in grade 4JLPT level N3201 of 2500 most used kanji in newspapers

So, it must be very, very commonly used if that's 15% of the time it's used.... Geez. No wonder we learned it.
