Stray from the light (Chrom x Reader)
Warnings: Blood, Torture, Injury, Near-Death experiences
Gender: Female
I needed to do a Chrom x Reader. It was about time. Also, I'm headed to Key West for vacation!! I'll probably be board on the plane so maybe I'll brainstorm ideas. (I already have one I know NO ONE is expecting, and hope for that to be out either next or after that.)
Enjoy!

~Reader POV~
My mind was fuzzy, memories hard to remember. I had lost track of time in this hellhole of a dungeon. My blood stained the floors and chains that bound me, and I could barely keep myself awake anymore.
How could I let this happen? Of all fates to befall a Shepherd, why did the worst have to come to me? I'd rather die then be held prisoner, as now I am left to the enemies mercy, and they could use me against my friends. They could threaten my life, or torture me for plans, which they liked to do extensively.
How long has it been? My mind was unable to recall, as time felt like it dragged on here. The way I was caught; embarrassing. I had been shot off from my pegasus and fell to the earth. Once I regained my composure after such a tumble, I had felt my hands being bound, mouth being gagged, and legs tied. My struggles were useless, the enemy had caught me and was shuffling me away quickly before any of the other shepherds could hear my plea. It seemed like I was the only one to be captured, so while the enemy suffered a loss in terms of battle, they had a grand prize in me.
They chained me up, and demanded answers. They wanted plans of attack, weaknesses of my friends, anything to give them advantages in battle. I kept my mouth silent, but instead, they dragged me though torture. I had to keep my willpower, but it was fading. I was starved, weak, and still wounded. They always would heal the worst of the injuries, to make sure I stayed alive to have more horrors brought upon me.
Was this death coming for me? Is this how it felt? I may have been chained by the wrists, but I was laying on the ground, on my side, staring blankly ahead. I didn't have the strength to move anymore, I couldn't call for help, I couldn't stand up.
I would fade in and out, and begin to see those I knew, but they would disappear without freeing me. I begged for them to set me free; I could see Fredrick, Robin, Miriel, Sumia and of course, my lover Chrom. Yet while they acknowledged me, they refused to release me. I begged Chrom to free me, but he kept giving me his hand and insisting I take it, and fallow him. Fallow him somewhere special he said, to a new land. "Please... come with me..." He would speak. "Leave this place... stay at my side..." and I would reach for it, only to be unable to grab it before he seemed to disappear.
Even if I did not have the strength to move, having him at my side in this state made me feel more comfortable. There were times I felt like I was finally free, able to be taken by him and go, but I would always be brought back down by the chains that kept me bound. "C-C-Ch-Chrom..." I would beg him to stay. But he would come and go. Yet having him near me at all, it felt comforting.
Suddenly, I felt the ground shake, and within a blink everyone was gone. I thought I heard noises all over the place, yells of people in battle and cries of pain. I heard it get closer and closer to the end of the hall from the cell I was in. Suddenly, I saw Chrom kneeling in front of me, holding his hand with caring eyes. I went to reach for it, and I actually managed to hold it.
I could hear his voice, "(Y/N!) (Y/N!)" I could hear him call, echoing and muffled. I had a small smile on my face. My eyes found it hard to stay open.
"P-p-please... t-take... m-m-m-me..." I begged. I had his hand in my own. Grabbing it made me feel so calm, so relaxed. I closed my eyes once more, as I felt my lover pull me up and into an embrace... we would finally be together. I felt the chains unbind me from the prison, I was finally free...
~Chrom POV~
We had just taken the enemy down, and I frantically searched for any sign of (Y/N). I don't know how long it's been, possibly 3 weeks since she was taken. I searched and searched all around the castle, calling her name in hopes of finding her. "(Y/N!) If you can hear me, please call out!"
"Milord!" Fredrick yelled to me and I whipped my head around. "Over here!"
I instantly fallowed him, and he rushed me to a hidden passage behind a bookcase. We descended into the ground, only to find a dungeon. Cells stained with blood, the scent of rot, and...
"(Y/N)!" I yelled. At the other end of the hall, I found her, laying on her side, staring blankly into nothingness. She was chained, beaten and bloody. I could see her skin was frail and rips poking though her clothes. She looked horrible, I wondered if she was alive.
I raced to the cell, and yanked it open, being shocked at finding it unlocked. I knelt down to her. "(Y/N)! (Y/N)! Please answer me!!"
She seemed to notice me, giving a soft smile despite her frail condition. Her eyes struggled to stay open. "P-p-please... t-take... m-m-me..." she begged, extending her hand to the air with a smile and shaky eyes that couldn't stay open. I grabbed hers and held it close.
"NO! Don't go with them! Open your eyes!" I felt myself begin to cry. I knew she was in critical condition, I knew she was hallucinating, the only reason she tried to reach for me. I picked her upper body and held it tight. She was cold to the touch, yet felt like she had a fever. The scars she had were clearly infected, causing her to become sick. She was obviously without food for a good period of time, as with water. "We gotta get her to Lissa!" I yelled.
With the assistance of Fredrick, we broke the chains keeping her contained to the wall. We wanted to get them off her wrists, but every second counted right now; we couldn't waste time. I lifted her up, way too light for how tall she was, and began to race with her, passing by all the other Shepherds. Robin saw Fredrick and I and tagged along as I raced with (Y/N) in my arms.
"Please stay. Please don't go." I muttered. "Hang on, Its not over for you. Don't listen to the other voices... please hold on..."
I finally made it back to Lissa who saw her condition and was horrified. She could barely find a pulse or heartbeat on her. She took out her healing staff to try and heal the wounds, but it wasn't working like it should. The wounds were too much, and her body too weak.
Maribelle came over with a stronger Mend staff, and while it worked better, it was still not quite as successful as one would think. Apparently, while they can heal the wounds, they cannot undo her lack of water or food. I held onto (Y/N)'s hand the entire time, never letting go. I pleaded she stay with us, I would give my life for her.
As Maribelle used the staff, Lissa tried to bind the wounds with first aid. After such, she held (Y/N)s upper body and began to give her some water, hopefully try to reverse the effects of dehydration.
Through it all, I was wondering if she would ever wake. The way she sounded down there, it was like she didn't know I was in front of her, or that she was talking to someone else. I had lost her 3 weeks ago during a battle when the enemy shot her down to capture her, and only now were we able to track down those who stole my love. She had gone 3 weeks of endless torture. She had scars from healed injuries; they were keeping her alive on purpose. They wanted revenge for our victory, and wanted our secrets.
Some say before death you see life flash before your eyes, or see your loved ones. If she saw me down there, it must have been a phantom of who I am. "Please... survive this... I'm sorry I let you get caught. I should have been watching over you..."
~Reader POV~
I couldn't hear well with a harsh ringing in my ears. It was dark, and I felt warm. I feel like I'm falling in a void; Was this death? Where was Chrom? He told me he was taking me somewhere. I was holding his hand, where is he?
"Chrom...? Chrom where are you...?"
I heard nothing in response. "Chrom! Please, where are you?" I begged for him to hear me. He had guided me here to this 'special' place, but I don't see what's so special about it. My voice just echoed in this empty void.
"...N..."
I heard an extremely muffled voice. I looked around, still only seeing black. The ringing was making it hard to hear. "Chrom?"
"...Y/N..."
That time I heard it. More clearly a voice calling my name.
"Y/N Please..."
It was Chrom's. I went towards the direction of the sound, the repeated calling of my name. The ringing got louder and louder as I raced towards the sound, But I swore I heard Chrom's voice calling to me... There was a light, the direction of his voice, and I raced faster and faster in that direction...
~~~~~~~~~~
"Y/N please... wake up!" Was the first thing for me to perceive. I couldn't see anything, but I heard someone talking. I could feel a light cloth over me, alongside the massive amounts of pain I was in, and illness to my stomach I felt. I tried to move, but the pain shocked my system.
"Ch-Ch..." I couldn't speak.
"Wait, Y/N? Are you there?!" I heard Chrom's voice. He sounded desperate and worried. I finally tried to open my eyes. They were assaulted by the bright light that made me close them instantly. I gave a moan as the light pained me.
"I'm right here... don't strain yourself." He begged. I still couldn't see him, but I felt his rough hands holding mine tightly.
Slowly, with patience, I managed to regain my sight. It was dark and double, but soon everything started to line up, making it all look normal. I was looking up at a tent ceiling, which was odd... I wasn't in a tent before.
"Y/N..." Was Chrom's voice again. I turned slightly to my left and saw him; my prince, my lover. He had the most worried expression on his face, that quickly turned to reified and overjoyed when I opened my eyes. "Y/N!!" I saw him cry with a smile.
"C-Chrom...!" I tried to sound excited to see him, but my pain made it hard. I tried to sit up, but he lightly pushed me down.
"Easy, You've been though a lot." He demanded. "I... I can't believe you... you're alive..."
I saw his tears drop, streaming down in joy. I could tell he just wanted to hug me, but he was also pretty sure that hugging me would hurt me more.
"W-Where am I?" I asked.
"You're at the medical tent." He responded. "We had finally found you after weeks of searching. When I heard the enemy had taken you, I wasn't able to rest at all. I searched day in and day out. I never stopped."
"How... long...? How long was I gone for? I lost track of the days down in the dungeons."
"I think... 3 or 4 weeks total? At least since the fight when you were taken. I never stopped looking for you, but it wasn't until recently we found who had taken you."
I felt a little shaken by him saying 3 to 4 weeks. I had lost track of time, but the way I felt, it made it worse. I had been deprived of the basic needs to live; food, water, sunlight... I felt like I had been forgotten except for the times the enemy would come down to torture me.
I just gave a smile to Chrom despite my weak state. "It's going to be a while before your back to yourself obviously." He chuckled. "But I'll be right here for you. I won't let anyone or anything separate us ever again!"
I smiled at him, so glad to finally have him back. "C'mere." I told him. He leaned over and I hugged. I felt exhausted despite just waking up, and yawned, though it did hurt. I think he could tell, because I felt him give me a kiss on the head. "Recover well, my love..." He whispered. I was finally back in my lovers arms, after all this time. The light that took me, I must have strayed.
