Don't Leave My Side (Ike X Reader)

Warnings: None
Gender: Female

Ike is sailing with the company. Comfort luv n hugz. It's Ike, fav FE character. Maybe this is why he's had, oh I don't know, like 3 BLOODY ONE SHOTS in this book?! (OK technically 'Living The Game' isn't him specifically but it is his game) This is a short and sweet one, but also ends kinda funny.

I also noticed Ike (and by extension characters from his games) doesn't have a lot of one shots on Wattpad. If you know any books on here, let me know. Please no Summoner one shots though. I like the ones where they take place in their world/game, if you know what I mean.
I'm not knocking the Summoner ones, it's just not my cup of tea

Takes place during PoR, the chapter where everyone is sailing, so Ike in his PoR outfit
ENJOY!

Ike and his crew of Mercenaries had been sailing on the high seas for a few weeks now, ready to get to another job which they were requested for, but (Y/N) couldn't sleep. She wasn't sure why; could it have been from the battle with the raven laugz who were pirates? She was exhausted, but could not fall asleep.

She's the newest member of the company, and having a hard time proving herself to everyone that she was capable mercenary. She kept messing up, getting hurt in battle, often severely, and generally causing more issues then she solved.
She felt like everyone looked down at her, and was worried she would be let go from the company if she couldn't get it together. Yet she didn't want to leave, as she had no where else to turn to.

Realizing that her restlessness in the cabin would wake the others, (Y/N) quietly snuck out, and went above the main deck. There, below the glinting stars, she approached the side of the boat, leaning, and looked off at the waves which would come closer and crash on the boat.

"*Sigh* I'm certain it's only a matter of time before I'm kicked out... I can't fight, especially not as well as the others. What happened to me? I had the courage to join up with this company, and the eagerness to preform, but I just keep failing. What's wrong with me? Why can't I be as good as the others?"

Yet unknown to (Y/N), Ike had heard her leave the cabin. Unable to sleep as well, he fallowed her to above the deck, and watched as she looked off, and sounded like she was mumbling to herself. He slowly approached. "Why are you up at this hour?" He asked. The voice seemed to take (Y/N) by surprise, but relaxed once she realized who was speaking.

"Oh, hey Ike... I could ask you the same thing."

"I couldn't sleep." He bluntly responded. Ike walked over next to (Y/N) who was leaning on the side of the boat, looking off, to which he did the same. The only sounds made was of the waves splashing on the boat, the wind occasionally gusting, and creaking of wood from the ships deck. "How are you adjusting to mercenary life? You mentioned your new to this all." Ike asked.

(Y/N) turned to face him, surprised he was asking questions, as Ike was normally quiet. "Well enough... I suppose?" She trailed off as it felt like she was asking a question.

"Why do you sound so unsure?" Ike interrogated.

"It's just... I'm such a mess up. I mean, before this job, I had never killed before. That killing... even if I know the person is causing problems, it still feels awful to kill. It's been causing me to loose sleep, and... I'm just so shaky with my blade." Unknowingly, (Y/N) took a step closer to Ike.

"Hmph." Ike grunted. "You get used to it. I know you weren't raised for this like I was."

(Y/N) looked down, wondering if she should continue the conversation. "How are... you handling... your father's death?" She quietly asked. Ike perked up at the question, indicating he heard it, but didn't respond. (Y/N) turned her head to face him. "I don't like to bring it up because I know it's hard but... I've noticed changes in you since he passed."

"Like what?"

"Like... you've become more cautious about everything. Not taking risks and worrying about our safety. Sometimes I think your working Rhys too hard over wounds that aren't an issue."

"And that's different because...?" He turned like he was actually confused about the comment.

"Because before when your father was still around, it seemed like you only ever cared about Soren and Mist." (Y/N) gave a small chuckle. "But now you care about us all."

"I cared about you all before!" He snapped, seemingly upset by the question. "Why would you even think of me like that?"

"I mean more so." (Y/N) rolled her eyes, then looked back to the waters. "More so then you did before."

"Well... its because I'm the commander now." He glared. "I need to care about everyone and make sure we're ready to fight, especially our new members." He emphasized the 'new' in his sentence, as if directing it to (Y/N) only.

(Y/N) turned to Ike, and she saw a slight hint of red across his face. He still gave a grimace while looking out at the water, seeming to be offended by the question, and trying not to look at her. But the redness... Was that... blush? Was Ike blushing? (Y/N) had never seen him do such a thing before. "Are you ok? Your a little red on the face."

Despite trying to hide it, Ike just got more flustered. He still didn't turn to (Y/N), and just kept his gaze at the ocean. "I'm... a little warm. That's all."

(Y/N) dropped the questions, and just watched out. Ike however, took the smallest step closer to (Y/N), hoping she wouldn't notice.
Oh, but she noticed, She just didn't say anything.

After a brief moment of silence, (Y/N) broke it. "I feel so worrisome about everyone. I don't want to leave anyone behind should I die. Yet I'm not exactly the best at being a mercenary. I'd feel awful is someone died for me. But, being around you always helps for some strange reason."

"Really?" Ike perked up and responded in confusion.

"Yep. It helps me feel safe knowing you're at my back, and I feel like I preform better when I'm near you."

As (Y/N) became lost in thoughts, she didn't notice that Ike had put his arm around her back, pulling her closer while he still looked at the ocean. The action caught (Y/N) by surprise. "If staying around me helps you feel safe then... don't leave my side."

He was giving a small smile, finally glancing to her. (Y/N) leaned her head on Ike's shoulder, not wanting to leave his warm embrace, it comforted her. Ike turned to hug her directly, wrapping both arms around (Y/N)s torso. In response, (Y/N) turned as well. She felt as Ike leaned his chin on her head. "I care about everyone... but I care about you more."

He pulled away slightly, but the two of them still held each other in their arms, and stared directly at one another. "I... I never thought you felt this way, Ike."

Ike smiled. "I have for a while. I just..." He trailed off. "I didn't know how to explain it. I never felt this way with someone before." (Y/N) began to lean her head down. But Ike put his hand under her chin, and gently guided her look back at him. "Hey, have some confidence. That's one way to improve."

The two of them just kept staring at one another, the shining moonlight behind them. Holding in an embrace, (Y/N) finally started to feel like she could go to sleep. Before she could say anything, Ike gave a yawn. "We should probably go back." Responded Ike.

"5 more minutes. Please?"

"...Fine."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"What are you two doing up here?" Was what (Y/N) heard first. She slowly opened her eyes, and saw Soren, Titania, Boyd, Oscar, Rolf and Mist looking down at them.
"Wha...?" (Y/N) half asleep mumbled.
"What were you two doing last night?" Boyd gave a sly smile and snickered. "We wake up and saw you two on top of one another."
"Two...?" (Y/N) turned behind her, and saw Ike, passed out on the ground, also in the process of waking up. He was also half drunkenly mumbling, and he lifted his head to face (Y/N). Both of them finally opened their eyes completely, taking a second to fully respond, and then realized what everyone was talking about.
"AGHGH!" The two said in unison and they scrambled backwards from one another. They just stared in shock at each other. Then, they turned to the group, to everyone who was smiling or laughing.
Ike was clearly embarrassed by the way his fellow Mercenaries saw him. "You saw nothing." He insisted. Everyone broke out in laughter after such words.
