(Percy Jackson) Goddes Of Wisdom Or Pride?
In the form of an opinion 5 paragraph essay.
Once upon a time, there was a good named Zeus. He had just finished eating his daughter and her mother and after a while, his head started to hurt. A lot. He got his step-son Hephaestus to crack his head open and out popped a his daughter from his brain. "I am Athena," the goddess said. "I am the goddess of battle strategy, creativity, and widom---" okay. Hold up a second. Now here is the question: does Athena really deserve to be the goddess of wisdom, or should she trade it for something like "rash decisions" or "pride"? I don't think she really does deserve her title.
First of all, she makes a lot of her decisions based off of her pride. For example, when she had that weaving competition with Arachne. Arachne had been bragging about her weaving skills and didn't mention Athena at all. Athena, being the creator of weaving, took offence at this and challenged her to a contest on weaving. It was a tie, but Athena, noticing that Arachne's weaving was offensive to the gods and herself, punished her anyway. She turned her into the mother of all spiders because Arachne had offended her pride. A mistake, of course, that had caused not only terror and deaths for her children in the "Percy Jackson" books, but also for her child, Annabeth, to fall into Tartarus with Percy in "The Mark Of Athena" from the second Percy Jackson series, the "Heroes Of Olympus."
Second of all, Athena makes many rash decisions because of someone disrespecting that eventually causes bad reactions. Like, with Medusa, whom Poseidon took with him to Athena's palace, which was disrespectful. Athena got mad, but instead of just killing Medusa or yelling at Poseidon later, she just had to turn Medusa into a monster that turns people to stone. Medusa not only tries to turn Percy, Grover, and Annabeth into statues(then destroy Annabeth's because she's a daughter of Athena) in "The Lightning Thief", but she also causes many problems for Greek heroes the first time she was alive in Greek Mythology. It's just like the Arachne case; Athena caused more problems for herself and her children by a rash decision made by her own pride and others' disrespect.
The final reason is because she voted against Percy and wanted him to die in "The Titan's Curse." She thought it was took much of a risk to take if they let him be the child of the prophecy. She would rather it be Thalia, her half sister because Percy's fatal flaw is loyalty. Make sense? No. Maybe the evil side could have lead him to the their side by threatening his friends, and maybe he would be a powerful enemy, but if you killed him, you would be losing a powerful ally and you could lose the war. Very wise. That was sarcasm, but I bet you already smart enough to know that. Athena may know the basics of knowledge, but she doesn't know how to think outside the box. She tells Percy about the bad of his fatal flaw and how it can cost a war or he could destroy the world trying to save a friend, but she forgets about the good. His fatal flaw wouldn't allow him to destroy the world for a friend, because then that friend would die. He understands that sometimes letting a friend do what they want could be just as effective, if not more, then trying protecting that person. He would be loyal to Olympus and wouldn't let it fall, especially with Poseidon, his father, and Hestia, who cares for him and he respects as a goddess. She's also supposed to be the goddess of creativity, but how is she supposed to be creative if she can't think outside the box?
There are many reasons why Athena shouldn't be the goddess of wisdom, creativity, and battle. She acts out of anger and pride and isn't quite as wise as she thinks she is, at least not in the Percy Jackson books. I mean, she doesn't like his relationship with her daughter Annabeth even though he snook out of camp and held the sky to save Annabeth. Athena didn't even thank him for helping her daughter through Tartarus! Also, di she ever notice she indirectly calls Percy wise? In "The Titan's Curse," she says, "There is always a way out for those wise enough to seek it." He then goes on to find a way out of tihe dam dam(haha dam). On the other hand, Artemis and Hestia are really awesome(sorry Artemis, for using your brother's word to describe you). Artemis shows how's girls can be strong too and Hestia is hope and peace. They are opposites(Artemis and he hunters is all for killing people, especially males while Hestia is peaceful) but they are both equally amazing. If I had to choose, I would probably chose Hestia because she is hope, family, and hearth. She always underestimated because she never uses her powers to fight, and she is actually misjudged because she is actually the eldest child of Kronos and Rhea. She lives with it and accepts it and likes it, but she is still the peacekeeper between her family Olympians during council meetings. They all can't help but love and accept her for who she is–I don't know if anyone can. Artemis is awesome too. Those two are the only two goddess who are true to their titles. None of the other gods or goddesses are. Especially Athena, at least in the Percy Jackson books. She even has kids with mortals, even if they are brain children, they're still children.
