Tearful night 【Hetalia《Human! AU)》】
It's been a few years since Arthur and Francis adopted their twin sons from World Orphanage, but now the two boys are four years old and were inseparable. Wherever one went, the other would follow. It's the cutest thing when you see the two little boys holding hands and running around the house and the outside, at least that's what Francis thinks. Arthur loves them don't get me wrong, he always dresses them up in the same matching outfit.
Anyway, it was bedtime for the four-year-old twins. They're already showered and dressed in the simple white dress nightgowns that their fathers bought them. Their tiny teeth brushed and smelling like spearmint (they used Arthur's because they wanted to be like him.) Alfred ran to the right side of the bed and climbed in, Matthew doing the same but lagging a bit behind for he was dragging his stuffed polar bear as he ran. When he got to the bed he placed his bear down and climbed up to be with his younger twin brother. Together they snuggled closer and waited for their father's to tuck them into bed and kiss them goodnight.
After a few seconds they came in and did what they always do, francis went to Matthew's side and Arthur went to Alfred's, they tucked the boys into their light blue blanket before kissing them on the head. Then they would trade places and kiss them on the head again before leaving the boys to sleep.
Now here's where the story starts, but before that there's something you need to know and it's vitally important that you know. Ready? Ok, sometimes Arthur and Francis forget about Matthew. It's not all the time nor is it happening frequently, it happens once every few months or so, but it happens. And sometimes, when Alfred gets nightmares, he would wake up crying. This is one of those nights.
The boys went to sleep in each others arms peacefully, or so they thought, for Alfred had a nightmare.
In the nightmare the sky was a dark ominous blue and the smell of smoke filled the air. It burned when it entered Alfred's nose as he breathed looking at his home. Bright red and orange hues light the area around him, letting him see the burns and ash marks on his clothes and limbs. He looked to the house once again only for him to view his home in the dancing reds, yellows, and oranges. The heat from it hurt his developing skin as he tried to go in.
His family was still in the house. His dad and papa was sleeping in their bed, unknowing about the fire surrounding them. The closer he got to the house, screams from his parents and brother echoed through out the place. Alfred looked up to the window where he and Matthew's room was and saw his brother trying desperately to open the closed window. The pounding on the glass was loud but soon faded away as black and red danced and covered the exit. More yelled of pain erupted from the house as Alfred stood in horror witnessing his family die, even though it was a nightmare. It fell real, too real.
Alfred woke up suddenly. Salty warm tears fell down his red cheeks like waterfalls. Sitting up he wiped his eyes to see, his small hands moved the tears off of his face and let his Azure blue eyes to scan the room. Looking next to him to see his twin brother right by his side, he didn't see him. He blinked again and looked. Matthew wasn't there is Alfred's eyes.
Tears fell again in sadness that his other half wasn't right next to him. Quiet whimpers echoed in the room and hallway as he got out of bed and made his way to his parents room. His small feet dragging against the wood floor not bothering to actually get off the floor. The white nightgown was bit to big for Alfred, and because of that he tripped on the hem of hit and fell down. More tears fell as pain shot up his hand, but he still made his way to his dad and papa's room.
Opening the door he walked to Arthur and grabbed his sleeve and tugged at it. Soft whimpers were heard in the room every time the child pulled the adults sleeve. Eventually Arthur woke up and saw his son crying at his bed side. Sitting up, he pulled the child off the floor and on his lap, he turned on the lamp and asked, "Alfred, what's wrong, Love? Why are you crying?"
The little boy wiped his eyes as he answered, "I-I had a-a *hiccup* n-nightm-mare and wh-when *hiccup* woke u-up m-m-Mattie wasn't th-there"
"It's alright," Arthur said hugging the crying child. "C'mon let's go see if Mattie's there." Holding Alfred in one arm, Arthur got up out of bed and made his way to Alfred and Arthur's room. Opening the door and turning on the lamp. In the bed was Matthew, his back to the area where his brother was and his arms wrapped around his bear. Matthew stirred awake and looked to the area next to him. He sat up and almost started to cry when he noticed that Alfred wasn't there, looking around the room he saw Alfred in the arms of his father and the tears stopped. Alfred looked relived and squirmed out of his father's arms and ran to the bed, he climbed back in and hugged his brother as he fell asleep. Matthew discarded his bear and wrapped his arms around Alfred and fell asleep as well.
Arthur smiled sweetly at his children before turning the lamp off and heading back to bed. When he went back to his room Francis asked tiredly why he got up. The British man replied that their youngest son had a nightmare and thought his brother disappeared.Francis chuckled lightly before turning over and wrapping his arms around his spouse and falling back asleep. Arthur doing the same.
